3 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Page 3 From the Pastor s Desk The Third Sunday of Lent Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace. His disciples recalled the words of Scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me. At this the Jews answered and said to him, What sign can you show us for doing this? Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up. JOHN 2:16-19 In today s gospel from Saint Mark, Jesus again re-iterates our reverence for the Lord s Day, for the Lord s place, for the Ark of the Covenant and for the Blessed Sacrament today that we have reserved in our Church most especially for His Word and His Sacrament which we consecrate each and every day at Mass! It also re-echoes the first reading explaining that the Commandments highlight that we cannot have any strange gods before the worship of our God! We must keep holy the Lord s day and place. Also, our Lord is inviting us to understand that He will destroy this temple (that was already being re-built for 46 years) AND WILL RE-BUILD IT IN JUST THREE DAYS. Of course, He is speaking of the temple of His body. Therefore, when he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they came to believe the Scripture and the word Jesus had spoken. JOHN 2:22 CMA (Catholic Ministries Appeal) Around the Parish Our parishioners response is great as always. Do you realize that our commitment to CMA helps meals on wheels and programs for those afflicted with drug or alcohol addictions just a few of the wonderful programs that Catholic Charities runs for so many, some of whom are assisted right in our own parish. How wonderful that we as one community of faith can be the hands and feet of Christ in our midst! We are progressing well on our 2018 appeal. Once we get over the goal, we will begin to have parish rebates paid to St. Rosalie s to help the Food Pantry and other needed parish programs. Last year we received over $25,000 in rebates. Thank you, muchas gracias! Lenten Practices Fridays are days of abstinence. We abstain from meat. As suggested by the Committee for the Common Good, the placing of almsgiving boxes in the church each weekend was applauded by a number of parishioners! Again, donations placed in these boxes will be used for the Food Pantry and for Catholic Near East Mission and other needed charities. We will put pictures in the bulletin of the way you, as parishioners care for many special needs. It s wonderful to be able to put a face on, not only our local Food Pantry needs, but on the mission needs with those suffering in the Middle East and around the world. Another example of a good Lenten practice this year.
