SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION Confessions are heard on Saturdays from 4 4:30 p.m. or by appointment. ANOINTING OF THE SICK The sacrament is available after the 8 a.m. Mass on Saturdays. Urgent calls to administer to the seriously ill are received at any time. The sick person s family should notify the priest. Call to arrange for the Eucharist to be brought to shut-ins. 3 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Page 3 From The Pastor s Desk Brothers and Sisters, some thoughts from today s Scriptures: In Philippians, Chapter 2 we hear about a Plea for Unity and Humility. In this reading from St. Paul s letter to the Philippians, we hear the words and phrases: Encouragement in Christ Solace in love Participation in the Spirit Compassion and mercy Brothers and sisters, are not these ways the ways of the Lord? We can encourage each other to walk in the light of Christ. We do find solace in love and it is through participation in the Spirit that we can offer to each other compassion and mercy. St. Paul then tells us: Complete my joy by being of the same mind, with the same love, united in heart, thinking one thing. Do nothing out of selfishness or out of vainglory; rather, humbly regard others as more important than yourselves, each looking out not for his own interests, but [also] everyone for those of others. PHILIPPIANS 2:2-4 Then we hear that beautiful line from Scripture: Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus. PHILIPPIANS 5:5. If we but keep the attitude of Christ with us, we are strong because we follow the example of the Master. Let s try to encourage one another to live this Christ-like attitude. Disaster Relief Regarding the situation in the Caribbean and the Southeast and the Southwest: We sent about $7,900 to hurricane victims because of your generosity. Thank you so much! I realize that we are asked by the Church for many needs. I just want to say Thank You for all you continue to do! I want to thank you for your prayers and support for the Natural Disaster Victims. Thanks to the Group of Families in our parish who gathered some supplies to send to the Earthquake Victims in Mexico. St. Rosalie s is a wonderful parish which responds so positively to our community and the Church overseas. Thank you. Respect Life Sunday This Sunday, October 1, is Respect Life Sunday. As we celebrate Respect Life Sunday, we are reminded that the assaults on human dignity come in many forms. The Respect Life Office is charged with deepening our already strong commitment to pro-life activities and parish education. 7 St. Rosalie s Bulletin Page 7 The Lazarus Bereavement Support Program At St. Rosalie s Church We have all suffered the loss of someone near and very dear to us. It may have been a spouse, child, parent, sibling or friend. Often our grief can be so devastating that we may feel completely lost and alone. The Lazarus Bereavement Support Program is a nine-week program in which healing can begin. It provides members with an opportunity to understand grief in a way that rebuilds our identity and strengthens our faith in ourselves and in our Lord. Now in its fifth year, the Lazarus Bereavement Support Program helps members to understand that grief is experienced in each person differently, and that it often takes a very long time for the pain to heal. Participants will learn strategies for dealing with grief, and will receive (and give) valuable group support and fellowship throughout the healing process. Anyone who has experienced grief will be enriched by attending. The Lazarus Bereavement Support Program at St. Rosalie's Church will meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. in the Parish Center, beginning October 24, for nine sessions. There has been an outstanding response to the four year old program, and registration is now closed for this term. There is still space in the three year old program. More information is available on the website A gala dinner dance for parents, parishioners, alumni and alumni parents to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the regionalization of OLH will be held at the Muses in Southampton on Saturday, October 28. A full dinner and dancing to a live band will be available to participants. Tickets are available now at one hundred dollars per person. Seating is limited, so early reservations are suggested. Call Good Ground Cemetery Annual Meeting The Annual Meeting for Good Ground Cemetery will be held on October 30, at St. Mary s Church Hall at 7 p.m. All are welcome. Altar Rosary Society October is Respect Life Month and also the month we honor Mary as Our Lady of the Rosary. The Altar Rosary Society will make rosaries available to our parishioners during October. Our annual fundraising event, a 50/50 raffle, is scheduled for October 14 and 15. The drawing will take place after 12 noon Mass. 50th Wedding Anniversary Liturgies This fall couples that have been married fifty years or more will be honored at liturgies on Sunday, October 22, at the Church of St. Rose of Lima in Massapequa and on Sunday, November 19, at the Church of Christ the King in Commack. Both liturgies will begin at 2:30 p.m. Couples may register for one liturgy. Call or come to the Parish Center to register. Deadline for the October 22 liturgy is October 9 and deadline for November 19 liturgy is November 6. There will be additional celebrations in the spring for those who may find that more convenient.
