1 WHAT IS RELIGION? Unit 6 MUSIC COMMUNICATES SPIRITUALITY & RELIGIOUS BELIEFS. A religion is an organized collection of beliefs and perspectives. Many religions have symbols that try to explain the meaning and origins of life. Religions may have ceremonies, behaviors, and holy places. The practicing of a of a religion may include rituals, festivals, feasts, membership rites, meditation, prayer, music, art, dance, public service, or other aspects of human culture. We are examining various world religions this study is NOT meant to influence your beliefs or represent Lower Dauphin s beliefs. To an extent, we all believe in something. That something helps us make sense of our world. What is spirituality? Spiritual experiences connect us to a larger reality. We encounter spiritual issues every time we wonder where the universe comes from, why we are here, or what happens when we die. We also become spiritual when we become moved by values such as beauty, love, or creativity that seem to reveal a meaning or power beyond our visible world. Sometimes our questions never give way to specific answers or specific practices such as prayer or meditation. How does religion fit into all of this? Religion can be a very personal, organized expression of our beliefs. Think about what you believe in and choose a topic to express your views. You may use a topic below or think of your own. Is there a higher power in life? What is meditation? Are we all one? Honor a religious figure. How did the universe begin? How will the world end? Describe heaven and how to get there. What happens to people after they leave this life? Directions Are there angels? What is a prayer? Are there evil forces? Represent a religious event. What is hell? What is reincarnation? What is purgatory? an intermediate state between death and the final judgment Celebrate nature, sun, moon, planets. Celebrate the change of seasons! What is a soul? 1. You will need a minimum of 7 tracks: 2 original tracks ( melody and bass or chords) and 5 loops. 2. Be sure to include a variety of pitches, rhythms, and tone colors. Check the rubric. 3. BEFORE you turn in your paper to play your recorded music for a grade, answer the question below using a full paragraph & complete the rubric. As clearly as you can, describe what you are showing with your music. Write in a full paragraph (4-5 sentences). Be sure that each person turns in their own paragraph.
