The Pastor s Pen Henley Barnette was one of my seminary professors. A poor kid, growing up in a mill village community in North Carolina, Henley had a lifelong passion for by Dr. Bill Turner, ministry to the poor and the disenfranchised. He taught Senior Pastor courses in Christian Ethics, and his life was a genuine model - fiercely committed to integrity and justice. This past week, I ran across what he called a Debtor's Prayer. It's worth pondering: I owe so much to so many; I have been fed by fields I did not till. I have eaten from tables I did not set. I have crossed bridges I did not build. I have sat in the shade of trees I did not plant. I have received knowledge I did not research. I have drunk from wells I did not dig. I receive so much from others while my giving is so scarce. Before the memories of Thanksgiving bleed over into Advent and the onset of the Christmas season, I wanted to share Henley's words with you. They speak for us all... and they challenge us to GIVE THANKS by GIVING. I hope all of us remember that as we complete our Pledge Card drive between now and the end of December. God's blessings on our congregation have NOT been "scarce"... and I hope our GIVING will show that we fully understand that to be so.

Thank you, Lowell! by Norma Smither Dr. Lowell Eberwein Some of our folks work behind the scenes and most people don t realize that they are doing anything at all because they don t brag about what they do. They just do their job. Lowell Eberwein has worked on our website over the past several years keeping it updated. He has worked hard to give us a quality website that is within our budget. He has volunteered his time (countless hours) and effort to make our website effective and current. Most people have no idea how many details are involved in this effort. Lowell is a retired educator who sets a high level of excellence for himself when doing any kind of work. If he s going to do it, he wants it to be done correctly. He works with others to obtain information for the website and then he puts all that together. I have worked alongside Lowell helping him in any way I can. I have learned a lot from him. I have found him to be very considerate of my time. He is a passionate person who loves his God, his family and his church. When this church was hurting years ago, so was Lowell. I ve seen the tears and sincerity in his eyes and his face. He loves this church! Folks, that means he loves YOU! He wants this church to succeed and is willing to give above and beyond to help it accomplish just that. Thank you, Lowell, for all you do for Liberty Road Faith Fellowship. God is paying attention and so are we. We love you and appreciate you more than you know!
4 December 23 Church office closed Merry Christmas! December 24 Candlelight Christmas Eve Service at 5:30 p.m., sanctuary. Please invite family and friends for this beautiful service. December 26 Church office closed. December 30 Church office closed. Happy New Year! January 8, 2017 We will have a congregational meeting at the end of our morning service for the purpose of voting on the 2017 budget. Please make every effort to attend. John s Current View by John Compton Who s Sorry Now?! The standing invitation to the congregation to provide yours truly with some biographical information has gone unheeded. Pleas to individuals have been likewise unsuccessful. So now, you will have to endure THIS!! Your writer will share some of his biographical information. John Morgan Compton, is the seventh of ten children born to Morgan Fithue Lee Compton and Delilah Margarett Robbins Compton. (Named after his father and paternal grandfather). Incidentally, my mother was named Delilah and Gloria s father and was named Sampson! My hometown is Neon (Letcher County) KY which was a depressed area even before I left for college at Transylvania College (now University). I often refer to Transy as the other mental institution on Fourth Street Eastern State Hospital was located nearby at that time. Following graduation from Transy I taught three very enjoyable years at Bryan Station Senior High School. A school board policy prohibiting married couples teaching in the same school was one major factor in my leaving the teaching profession. It was at BSSH where a life changing event occurred - I met the one and only Gloria - - young, gorgeous, energetic physical education teacher/coach. (Ok, Gloria?) Neither spouse wanted to teach elsewhere. Prayer Requests To add a prayer request, please fill out a Prayer Request card that can be obtained at the Welcome The UK College of Law occupied most of my time for the next three years. After passing the bar I practiced locally three years with a high school friend and another law school classmate. (Compton, Swanger and Wake). An opportunity to serve as an Assistant U.S. Attorney presented
5 Center, call the church office at , or submit a prayer request or update online by going to Libertyroadfaithfellowship.org. Pray for Les Anderson who is recovering from surgery on November 8. Pray for Pat Bain, our sister in Christ, as she continues therapy at North Point. Pray for Roger Blair Roger will have additional scans in January. He appreciates your prayer support in the past and asks that you pray as God leads in the future. Pray for Colista, a friend of Karen Maudsley who is dealing with cancer. Colista was told by an oncologist recently that he can help her with chemo, so she is very thankful. Pray for Dr. Phyllis Corbitt, who is back in Baptist Health with infection and difficulty breathing. Dr. Corbitt has had serious health issues since Labor Day, so please pray for the family as well that God would give them strength, peace and rest. Pray for Karen DeLong who is itself to me and I accepted the position with the idea of staying a year or two before returning to private practice. Little did I realize how much I would love the duties of that position and the people with whom I worked. Being able to practice before outstanding judges such as Hons. Mac Swinford, B.T. Moynahan, Scott Reed, and David Hermansdorfer was a special, very special bonus. As a result I prosecuted for over 29 years. I may have stayed longer, however, I observed some outstanding attorneys practice beyond their prime. I also noticed how young attorneys only saw those attorneys at less than their best and I did not want to join that fraternity. Consequently, I retired in the year 2000 and tell everyone that I hit the ground resting and have not let up. Unless you want more of this bio at a later time possibly with baby pictures and soccer scores, you should provide me with your information. Do not let yourself be more sorry that you must be by now!! Cantabile Vocal Ensemble Christmas Concerts Cantabile, under the director of Ms. Donna Bonner, will perform at the following concerts: December 4 Broadway Baptist Church on the corner of Pasadena and Harrodsburg Road at 6:00 p.m. December 11 St. Raphael s Episcopal on Parker s Mill Road at 2:00 p.m. Join us for these FREE concerts and get into the Christmas spirit!
6 recovering from another stroke and also for her husband, Mike, who will be her caregiver. Pray for Michelle Gillum who has been diagnosed with Melanoma. Pray for Kenny Hurst, Jim Boswell s cousin, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. Pray for Ruby Layson who was diagnosed with cancer. (friend of Susan Booker) Pray for Ken McCarty, who fell and dislocated his shoulder. He had numerous scrapes and scratches that had to be attended to, but is home healing. Pray for Mary Anne Pollock who is recovering from knee surgery at home. Pray for Joyce Reaguer who is back at The Homestead on Versailles Road for rehab. Pray for Sarah Reeves, who is recovering from ankle surgery. Pray for Hester Souder, who has stage 4 cancer and 2 blood clots in her lung. (Crowe) Pray for Gene Strassner who will have an endoscopy about every 3 weeks for a while. Pray that he can start gaining weight/strength. I Can t Believe He ate the Hole Thing! Wayne Sullivan aims to please when it comes to providing donuts for everyone and when he heard that Scot Reeves birthday was coming up he wanted him to have a special surprise. Since Scot likes donuts, Wayne figured he would order an extra--extra large. If you are thinking, Now, that s my kind of donut, join the crowd. But let s not figure up the calories in that bad boy just yet--or the fat grams--or the cholesterol. But it looks like Scot had a fun time eating it regardless. (And no he did NOT eat the entire donut. Did you Scot? Scot? Scot??!) A Thanksgiving Blessing... by Dr. Ann Crowe Members of Liberty Road Faith Fellowship and Community Churches enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal and fellowship on Sunday evening, November 20. The meal was followed by a service of Hanging of the Greens. During the meal $ was received for a donation to God s Pantry, which will help them provide needed meals to those who are hungry during the holidays. The leftover food from the dinner was taken to Lighthouse Ministries, a local agency that feeds the hungry every night. We are so thankful for all we enjoy and for faithful members who so generously reach out to help those in need.
