1 Volume 10, Issue 35 August 29, 2018 Who We Are Liberty Road Faith Fellowship is a Multi-denominational gathering of Christians who enjoy traditional worship services. We Gather for Bible Study The Adult I Sunday school meets at 9:30 a.m. in room 3. Bob A Word From the Pastor By Rev. Lisa Wood Then Phillip began to speak, and starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus. As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized? Acts 8: If you joined us for worship this past Sunday, you witnessed the baptism of 9 year old Ella Chambers. It is always a great joy to join a child in the baptismal waters as they give public witness to their faith in Jesus Christ. It was also a holy privilege to participate in the baptism of Joyce Evans at her home. Joyce is one of our charter members and has felt for some time she was being led to present herself for rebaptism as an act of her reaffirmation of faith and devotion to God. It was in the presence of about 18 members of her family and some friends that Joyce professed her faith in Christ as her Savior and was sprinkled. We then shared Holy Communion, sang a hymn, and enjoyed fellowship together.

Whether they are sprinkled or immersed is irrelevant to the act of obedience being performed. Both of these women gave testimony to their belief in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, their Savior and Redeemer and we, as a community of faith, are blessed to be a part of their journey of discipleship. Pictured from left are Pam Gilkerson, Ella s grandmother, Ella, Kinsey, Ella s mom and Bill Boughton, Ella s great grandfather. A beautiful family on such a special occasion!

How did everything else that is going on affect the Jewish people? The next part of the series is the "Life and Ministry of the Messiah." This series will last 8 weeks and begins on Tuesday, September 25, at 1:00. It will be finished by Thanksgiving. You do not need a study book; you can just come when you can. But if you want a study book, please see Joanne Fortson. The books are $8 each. And there is more! A lot happens in the 400 years that separate the Old and the New Testaments. We are adding a bonus session to the beginning of our next study to take a look at those years -- the Greek takeover, the Maccabean revolt, the Roman takeover, the resulting changes in Jewish society with the addition of Hanukkah, Pharisees, Saducees, and Zealots (where did they all come from?). It will be a whirlwind overview that will set the stage for a better understanding of the world of Jesus. This bonus session will be Tuesday, September 18, at 1:00. There will be no video, no book to read -- just maps and handouts you will get when you come. Everyone is invited to come to any and all of the sessions of the Between the Testaments (September 18) and The Life and Ministry of the Messiah (beginning September 25). If you have any questions, please contact Joanne Fortson.

Liberty Elementary School (LES) wishes to continue our partnership with volunteers in the school to help with a variety of needs. We are also including Yates Elementary School (YES) [695 East New Circle Road between Eastland Parkway and Industry Road/Sunshine Lane]. Yates falls within area code which, along with area code 40509, is part of the outreach area LRFF serves. They need help in copying, grading, and working in classrooms with students. They also provide food for weekend supplement for children who get very little nourishment at home. Anyone interested in this effort can purchase food from a provided list and take it to the school. Staying to help package it would be greatly appreciated!! Any school is eager to have help with the many tasks that help both teachers and children. Additionally, we would like to provide support/recognition/appreciation for the faculty and staff at LES and YES as needed. Please think about ways you can help the school for an hour or longer on a regular, weekly basis. The time you choose to volunteer is completely flexible within your schedule; however, your commitment must be just that a commitment to be at the school at the same time each week. Children, teachers, and staff will depend on you! Working directly with children occurs between 7:45 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Anyone entering a school must complete a criminal background check, which is a very simple process. Those of us who worked in schools last year have completed that process, which is good for three years. For new volunteers, both the LES and YES websites provide a link for this simple process. If you plan to volunteer, I suggest you complete this process early. The link to the LES site is liberty.fcps.net; for YES, it is yates.fcps.net. Click on parents, then on volunteer, and the application will pop up. The form is self-explanatory except for the employment button. It does not give an option for retired or unemployed. Skip that, and at the end of the form, you will be directed to go back to that item and select Select. You cannot do that until you have completed the form. If you have any questions or difficulty, contact me ( ), and I will try to help you. Please think of a task you would like to contribute to either LES or YES, do your background check, and sign up on the sheet in the entryway to let me know what you would like to help with!! We should be ready to begin volunteering immediately after Labor Day when routines and enrollment at the school have settled.
