Fourth Sunday of Sharing for The Salvation Army Food Pantry Fall is the beginning of a busy season at the Salvation Army. With schools back in session, cold weather and Holidays approaching, we are planning to continue our ongoing mission of helping the Salvation Army restock their food pantry shelves. The Salvation Army s ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name, without discrimination. The missions committee will be collecting non-perishable food items on Sunday, September 17th and Sunday, September 24th. All monetary donations to the Salvation Army will go to Texas relief until further notice. Thank you for your donations. Many local children and adults depend on our generosity. Saturday, September 16th at 6:30 p.m. By Sarah Reeves We want to showcase our musicians, artists, photography buffs, woodworkers, readers of poetry, and drama enthusiasts! The way this will work is that we will have all our crafts and visual artists set up easels or tables in the hallways and the classrooms of the church. These artists can just showcase their work, or do a demo of their craft, or do both. Artist participation is free, and there is no cost for attending. If you paint, draw, create greeting cards, make jewelry, do pottery, or work with fiber we want you to participate and show-off your talent. If you play the piano, sing, or play any instrument, we want you to participate and fill the sanctuary with spirit-filled music! If you act, or read poetry, we want you to participate. Come join the fun and share your talent! Sign yourself up and if you have kids or grandkids who would like to share their talent, sign them up! If you want to participate in the Lalapalooza, you need to have your registration forms filled out and turned in by Sunday, September 10. There are a LOT of gifted people in this congregation. We hope you will share your gifts with us!

5 In order to keep a request on for more than a few weeks, please provide us with an update. Pray for the family of Wes Clark, who died Saturday. He leaves behind his wife, Meredith, and children: Jordan, Joanna, and Nathan. Pray for the Probus family in the recent death of David Probus, age 39. David leaves behind his wife, Laura and children, Anna, and William, 6 months old, as well as his parents, Bill and Ann, and his brother, Todd, and family. This was such a shock to the family. David s parents are new neighbors of ours. (Smither) Pray for the Madinger family who lost their wife/mother weeks ago in a house fire. Pray for Chuck who is no longer hospitalized, but is no doubt grieving, as well as his daughters, Bethany and Brittany. (Anderson) Pray for a family (mother, father and a few other family members) who are struggling with addiction. (Anonymous) Pray for Bill Kingsbury, friend of New Church Directory By Dr. Lowell Eberwein Co-Chair, Technology Committee The Technology Committee studied how to improve our current church directory before we forwarded our conclusions to the Administrative Church Board. The study included a review of our current system, what other Lexington churches do for a directory and what companies/systems churches use. Our current system was developed locally in and we have no one to whom we can turn to help with operational problems. We ve spent over $500 on the current system with limited success. Backgrounds of the pictures vary from light blue to dark brown, there are lines under the pictures that we can t eliminate, plus it s a quirky platform that, at times, is unpredictable. The Technology Committee reviewed problems with our current system plus two external systems. The Technology Committee then forwarded a summary of the study to the Administrative Church Board to make a final decision. The Administrative Church Board chose Instant Church Directory Online. Ron Curtis, photographer and computer specialist will take pictures for the new directory and insert them on the Instant Church Directory Online site. Our church office will install the new digital directory on our Website in the Member section. Our new directory will be a combined directory of both the Liberty Road Community Church and the Liberty Road Faith Fellowship congregations. Date and time sign-up lists are on the table outside the secretary s office. Please sign-

6 David and Jackie Bondurant. Bill received bad news regarding his battle with cancer. Pray for him as he awaits news as to whether or not he can receive a bone marrow transplant. Pray for Linda Wells, who will have hip replacement surgery sometime in September. Her first doctor visit is September 8. Pray for the family of Mildred Rentz, mother of Dr. Earlene Rentz Turner, who went home to be with the Lord on August 26. Pray for the family of James R. Burger, father of Vicki Clark, who went home to be with the Lord recently. Pray for Lindsey Bain who is going to have surgery on Sept 11 at UK Hospital to remove part of the lower lobe in one of his lungs. (Boswell) Praise that Hope Spoonamore s son-in-law, Chip Johnston, and his brother, Todd Johnston, are doing great after Chip donated a kidney to Todd recently. The surgery was successful for both. Todd s kidney function is already up to 91% and up for an individual five minute session to have your picture taken and arrive five minutes early to fill out an information sheet. Dates for the pictures are: Sunday, September 10 Sunday, September 17 Wednesday, September 13 Sunday, September 24 12:15 3:15 PM 9:00 10:30 AM / 12:30 2:30 PM 6-9 PM 12:15 3:15 PM (Due to lack of participation on 9/9 and 9/11, we have cancelled those dates and have created times for Sunday, September 10 and 17, since Sundays seem to work better for most people.) Ron requests that we wear no bright red, bright yellow, bright green and limit large floral patterns. Pictures will be taken in room 3, across from the Church Chapel in the left hallway. For homebound members, arrangements may be made through Norma to take a picture and collect information. All pictures will be taken in September. The pictures will be individual so we can change items like addresses, cell phones, etc. Single person entries allow the church to keep the directory updated. Requests for print copies may be obtained from Norma at the church office for $5.00 a copy placed in a three ring binder. We should have a new directory by early November. Individuals and families may request Ron to take and sell portrait pictures. This is by request and must be self-activated. We need everyone s involvement to create this new church directory.

7 they praise God for His goodness and mercy! Hope expresses her sincere appreciation for your prayers and concern for her son-inlaw and his brother. Please pray for the soon-to-beborn son of Henry and Island Parker who may have a possible heart defect. He is the great grandson of the Smileys. Pray for adult siblings who are fighting with each other and also for their parent that is distressed to see his children at odds with each other. Pray for a fellow struggling Christian who is going through an extremely difficult time in his/her life. The month of September will be particularly challenging. Pray for Paddy Claypoole, mother of Vicki Brown, that new medicine will improve her digestion issues. Pray for Silver Simpson who has multiple health issues. Pray for Jim Hyde that God would give him strength. Pray for his wife, Margaret, as she cares for him. Pray for Carolyn Watson who is Wow! Do we have a deal for you!! By Dr. Mary Anne Pollock Thanks to a generous and anonymous donation several years ago, we are able to offer anyone who attends Liberty Road Faith Fellowship a $20 discount on the registration fee of $60 to the Lexington Theological Seminary Fall Lay School of Theology. You will be able to attend the three sessions for only $40!!!! Dr. Emily Askew of LTS and Dr. Donald Gash, professor in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, are co-teaching the Fall Lay School of Theology: Belief, Healing and Health: A Dialogue between Neuroscience and Theology. Hallmarks of Jesus s ministry and the early Christian Church were belief, healing, and wellness of the body and mind. The seminars will examine how these factors are at work in some faith communities today and how they intersect with lifestyles shown by medical research to be critical factors for healthy living. Together a neuroscientist and a theologian consider how we can live better as people of faith. The school will be held on three Saturdays: September 16, 23, and 30. Each session is from 9:00 a.m. to noon, with a continental breakfast available before each session. Taking the seminars online is also an option. Several people at LRFF have attended the Lay School in the past and have been enjoyed learning in this dynamic atmosphere. Attend in person at Lexington Theological Seminary, 230 Lexington Green, Suite 300, Lexington, Kentucky, or online. *Please plan to attend all classes, as each lesson builds upon the preceding one. TO REGISTER, call Norma at ; make your check for $40 to LRFF and write Lay School tuition on the memo line. Please register by September 12.

Pray for the dear people of Texas who have endured so much loss. Pray for our service men and women who are active and also for our veterans who deal with difficult health issues every day as a result of their service to their country. Pray for our Pastor Search Committee as they seek God s person to lead His church. And pray for that person that God would prepare their heart to receive His direction. Pray for our Pastor Search Committee Members: Liz Peters, Chair; Rev. Richard Dwyer, Janet Layman, Kinch Query, Dr. Mary Anne Pollock, David Bondurant, Adam Rudder, and Jim Host Martha Ministry Team for September Thelma Boswell, Carolyn Blair, Helen Crews, Wayne Sullivan, Altar flowers in Loving Memory... Dr. Earlene Rentz Turner placed two beautiful arrangements in loving memory of her husband, Dr. Bill Turner, to commemorate what would have been his 79 th birthday on Sunday, September 3 rd. Earlene said that birthdays were very important to him. She is pictured here with Rev. Marty Singley (left), who will be our guest minister in the month of September. He and his lovely wife, Sandy, are members here. They have been away this summer and folks are excited to hear him preach again. And of course, I don t have to introduce you to the man on the right because Rev. Jim Hensley (and lovely wife, Betty) will always be a big part of our congregation, no matter where they live. They visited with us on Sunday, which was such a treat.

If you are listed for a particular month with the Martha Ministry and cannot serve, please contact the chair of the Martha Ministry, Susan Slusher at (606) and she will be glad to schedule you for another month. Also, if you have any questions or concerns about serving, just give Susan a call. Ongoing Prayers for our soldiers Faith Afield Here are the names of the service people we currently know about. SSGT. Jamen Berry, son of Andy Berry Capt. Ginny Iskandarov niece of Ginny Berry Elnur Iskandarov nephew of Ginny Berry by marriage SSGT. Cameron Smith brother of Sean Smith Airman Benjamin Engelbrecht son of Paul Engelbrecht Unity Hymn Sings By Dr. Carolyn Purcell As an outgrowth of our visioning retreat, we decided we want to start a Unity Hymn Sing. This event would occur once a month on a Sunday evening. Our congregation has some of the best, if not the best, congregational singing you will find anywhere. That can only be true if it is also true that we love singing. So, one purpose of the Unity Hymn Sing is just the pure joy of it. Another purpose is to learn the hymns of our varied backgrounds. We are a multi-denominational church as well as a recently blended congregation, and we may love some very different old hymns. With that in mind, we want to know your favorites. What are your ten favorite hymns? For the next month, we will have a box in the entry hall for you to leave a list of your favorite hymns. When we are ready to start our monthly hymn sings, over time we will use all of your favorites. Hopefully, we will each learn a few new ones. They may be new to some individuals, but they will all tell the old, old story. Please send Ginny Berry any updates on the status of these persons change in rank, address, new assignment Her address is momb1@twc.com
