Gathering E P At the sound of the handbell, please stand and turn to face the procession at the entrance of the church. The glory of the Lord has been revealed and all lesh shall see it together. E H ELW #269 A Once in Royal David s City G The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. H P ELW #289 6 Angels We Have Heard on High
S P D Let us pray. Almighty God, you made this holy night shine with the brightness of the true Light. Grant that here on earth we may walk in the light of Jesus' presence and in the last day wake to the brightness of his glory; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Word F L Isaiah 9:2-7 Holy wisdom, holy word. Thanks be to God. R S And the Glory of the Lord (from Messiah) G. F. Handel L Titus 2:11-14 Holy wisdom, holy word. Thanks be to God. 7
G A Turn to face the cross in procession for the Gospel reading. ELW #296 H What Child Is This? G The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. Luke 2:1-14 The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. S 8
C L During the singing of the Hymn of the Day please light the candle of the person next to you. H D ELW #281 Silent Night, Holy Night! P Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. As each petition concludes, Lord in your mercy, please respond, singing in four parts: Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Candles are extinguished. S P C Meal O O Wexford Carol O A arr. Mark Sedio P Let us pray. Good and loving God, we rejoice in the birth of Jesus, who came among the poor to bring the riches of your grace. As you have blessed us with your gifts, let them be blessing for others. With the trees of the ield, with all earth and heaven, we shout for joy at the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 9
T G T It is indeed right that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks and praise to you, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord. In the wonder and mystery of the Word made lesh you have opened the eyes of faith to a new and radiant vision of your glory; that, beholding the God made visible, we may be drawn to love the God whom we cannot see. And so, with the Church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 10
Holy One, the beginning and the end, the giver of life: Blessed are you for the birth of creation. Blessed are you in the darkness and in the light. Blessed are you for your promise to your people. Blessed are you in the prophets' hopes and dreams. Blessed are you for Mary's openness to your will. Blessed are you for your Son Jesus, the Word made lesh. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. With this bread and cup we remember your Word dwelling among us, full of grace and truth. We remember our new birth in his death and resurrection. We look with hope for his coming. Come, Lord Jesus. Holy God, we long for your Spirit. Come among us. Bless this meal. May your Word take lesh in us. Awaken your people. Fill us with your light. Bring the gift of peace on earth. Come, Holy Spirit. 11
All praise and glory are yours, Holy One of Israel, Word of God incarnate, Power of the Most High, one God, now and forever. L P Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. B B I T Tonight we commune at stations across the front of the church. You may dip the bread into the red wine or white grape juice, or drink directly from the cup. Gluten-free bread is available. We welcome all who desire to receive the Lord s body and blood to join us for Holy Communion. Please come forward at the direction of the ushers. Those who do not commune are invited and welcome to come forward for a blessing. M D D ELW #276 ELW #279 ELW #282 ELW #283 P A Infant Holy, Infant Lowly O Little Town of Bethlehem It Came Upon a Midnight Clear O Come, All Ye Faithful C Let us pray. God of abundance, with this bread of life and cup of salvation you have united us with Christ, making us one with all your people. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world and continue forever in the risen life of Jesus Christ, our Lord. 12
Sending S H ELW #270 Hark! The Herald Angels Sing B D Please face the cross at the recession and so turn to receive the blessing at the font. May the Word that Mary brought to birth carry you into new and abundant life. May the Word that Joseph cradled in his arms enfold you with love and strength. May the Word that angels proclaimed in song bring harmony to our world. And the blessing of God, the Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit remain with you now and always. Go in peace. Serve the Lord.
