3 Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. John Neumann, THANKS TO KENDALL & CHIARA SMITH This past year we were blessed with the culinary craftings of KENDALL & CHIARA SMITH who shared their time and talent and helped us out tremendously with our Senior Luncheons. The work situations have changed for both of them and they no longer have the extra time they previously did. So, many thanks to KENDALL & CHIARA for ALL that they did for us! And blessings on them in the new opportunities they embrace! Nonetheless, you ll still see and hear Chiara when she blesses us by sharing her beautiful voice at Mass and leads us to raise our hearts and voices to God! DO YOU LOVE TO COOK? So, you guessed it: I m looking for someone to help us out with the cooking for our Senior Luncheons every other month, and also for various events here at SJN. In reference to the Senior Luncheons, our parish staff helps with the preparations, serving and clean-up we just need someone to take the reins and help us keep this ministry for our Seniors alive and well. You can give me or our Business Manager, Chris Summers, a call for the details. As far as the other various events go, we re looking for someone to cook for our New Member Welcoming brunches and some other functions or meetings that are held here at the parish or at the rectory. Ultimately, this falls under our Bethany Ministry: Where Hearts and Hands Come Together, but we haven t been able to find someone who will take the lead and work with the dedicated members of this ministry. Therefore, if God has given you the talent, and cooking is your thing, and you d have the time to lead a great group of volunteers and staff members who are happy, helping hands, please give us a call. Thanks for your consideration. And remember, the benefits of giving your time and talent are, literally, out of this world! "WE CAN'T DO EVERYTHING, BUT WE CAN DO SOMETHING!" We get many requests from individuals and organizations and even parishioners who wish to promote things or want to sell things to help further the worthy causes close to their hearts. It would be nice to allow everyone access to our community, but that s just not possible. We could, literally, have someone different here each week promoting some cause or raising funds for charitable works. From my experience, I know that parish communities get frustrated and tire very easily from being asked to support so many different outside causes. I even get tired from having to ask you for increased support of the needs of our own parish and diocese! And so, I now take this opportunity to remind everyone, even our parish family, that we simply cannot allow everyone access to solicit our parish family to support their worthy causes. We do limit any kinds of promotional activities to those events and organizations associated with our parish and/or diocese (e.g., Marthas & Marys, Men s Club, bake sales, donuts, CSA, yearly Mission Appeals etc.). On occasion we do allow outside interests to come here, such as the Holy Land articles which gives our parish family the chance to purchase religious articles not available elsewhere, while at the same time provides us a charitable opportunity to support the small amount of Christians left in the Holy Land. So, please do not assume my permission to sell items or promote outside organizations on our parish campus. While I would love to give this permission to everyone, especially our children, it s just not possible. As Blessed Oscar Romero once said, We can t do everything, but we can do something! I believe we already do a lot of something here. Thanks so much for your understanding and, especially, for your cooperation. It makes life a heck of a lot easier for me and lessens the frustration and anxiety of our parish family! CATHOLIC STEWARDSHIP APPEAL (CSA) PROGRESS Have you made your pledge to the CSA yet? If not, please do as soon as possible. Remember, EVERY gift, no matter its size, is very important and much appreciated! Peace always, Fr. James Michael Jankowski Pastor

4 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time August 18, 2018 Page 4 TRAVEL SIZE TOILETRIES NEEDED FOR THE HOMELESS Laudato Sí Ministry of SJN is again asking for your help in helping those brothers and sisters who find themselves living on the streets of Las Vegas. As people of God we can help in many ways, so from this day forward, we are asking for your help in collecting travel/hotel size toiletries for Catholic Worker so they can hand out to the homeless in Las Vegas. Most of us take for granted that we have a bar of soap, shampoo, body lotion, toothpaste or even a toothbrush at our disposal whenever we need it. Many do not have those luxury items, and need them disparately. So, as you travel and stay in your favorite motel/hotel bring back those small toiletry items and drop them into the box located by the doors as you enter church. You can also purchase these items at the dollar store. And remember to pray for those brothers and sisters who may not have what we have, and that these toiletries items you have collected will help them in some small way. Thank you and God Bless. FOR SALE Big parties require big tables! That s what we are learning as we grow. In preparation for this year s Gala, we are purchasing tables that can seat 10 people. Selling our current tables will help us to fund the new ones and free up storage space. We have round folding tables for sale. Sturdy and storable, they can comfortably seat 8 people. Do you need some extra seating for gatherings of family or friends, an ultimate craft table, a great Round Table for your Knightly get-togethers? These are perfect, and at only $45.00 each-they will go fast! So here s the scoop: Tables will be available for sale during regular parish office hours. First come, first serve. No saving tables Tables are sold As is Please contact Mary Santos for more details extension 216. DON T FORGET TO DROP OFF TOILETRY ITEMS IN THE BOX BY THE DOORS AT SJN TO HELP OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS FINDING THEMSELVES LIVING ON THE STREETS OF LAS VEGAS.
