3 Page 3 To the Parishioners and Friends of St. John Neumann WTG? Do you remember what that stands for? Welcoming. Transformed. Generous. Yep, in a nutshell, those three letters summarize our new parish mission statement! We are a welcoming community, transformed by the Eucharist, that leads us to share generously. Oh, there s much more than that, but those three little letters, WTG, sum it up. Hopefully everyone can commit those three letters and words to memory and always be reminded of who we are as a community of faith and what is the heart of our mission. NEW OFFERING ENVELOPES FOR OUR CHILDREN IN FAITH FORMATION Beginning this weekend, you might notice that the children in our faith formation programs will be using some new offering envelopes. Each child has received their own numbered box of envelopes to help them participate in the church s call to be good Christian stewards of all that we have, which, in reality, all belongs to God. In the near future we, as a parish family, will be looking, once again, as to how the church asks us to embrace the concept of Christian stewardship in our sacrificial giving. We always talk about time, talent and treasure as being the ways we can give back to God for all the good God has given to us. But, notice that the most important word is AND. It s not time, talent or treasure, but time, talent and treasure. The concept of stewardship helps us understand that everything that we own, everything that we ve earned, everything that we ve saved, everything that we ve inherited ALL belongs to God we re just the stewards of those things. God is the one who has gifted us in many ways, especially in the talents we have and the ability to work. And, let s face it, without God, we would not even be here! What we do with everything we own, earned, saved, inherited, is between us and God. Hopefully our children will embrace, if they haven t already, this concept of Christian stewardship. Look for more in upcoming bulletins about the specifics of what s entailed in being honest, Christian stewards CHILI COOK-OFF A SUCCESS! by all! Thanks to the Men s Club for sponsoring this event and to all the chili chefs who provided about 18 different varieties of chili! Yeah, I was one of them, and YES, I did make my own chili (it was pretty good, even though I didn t win!). And thanks to all who supported the event and may have suffered some heart-burn afterwards (some of that chili had a real kick to it!). TEACHING MASSES From the comments I ve received from many of you, you really have appreciated the teaching Masses I have offered thus far. Thanks for your patience and your openness to ongoing formation. We never will know it all, but we can always better ourselves, especially in the area of our common worship. Next weekend I ll be celebrating the 25th wedding anniversary of some good friends back in Illinois. So, the final teaching Mass will take place on Sunday, October 27 at 5:00pm. TV MASSES Well, this coming Wednesday, October 16, I ll get my turn to offer the TV Masses which will be recorded at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, beginning at 9:00am. I m so excited that our own Lissy de Jesus will be cantoring for those Masses as well! Those Masses will be broadcast on the Sundays through the month of November. Thanks to all those parishioners who continue to support this vital ministry of the diocese for the benefit of our sisters and brothers who cannot be with us to worship. Your presence is truly a gift! Peace always, Fr. James Michael Jankowski Pastor It was my first Chili Cook-off ever! It took last weekend s event to help me understand how it was all going to work out. But, once we got into the swing of things, a great time was had
