Joe's brother had an apartment in that building and just barely escaped. Two people died and two were hospitalized, so Joe was happy to have his brother. Joe was also happy for the incredible work of the Red Cross helping the people affected by this fire. Dave Wittman remembered an event that happened 50 years ago on Sunday - the fire aboard the USS Forrestal in the Gulf of Tonkin. 134 sailors were killed and 160 injured in a catastrophic flight deck fire. Dave was on a destroyer doing plane guard duty for the Forrestal, helping in the firefighting effort. Dave noted that the Navy is a safer and more secure place due to the lessons learned from this shipboard fire, and the sacrifices of the sailors battling the fire.

Integrity Bank and Trust is the Corporate Sponsor for the Monument Hill Kiwanis Club 4th of July Parade BIRTHDAYS Jim "The Ironman" Taylor told us of one member birthday for next week. Monument Hill Kiwanis Club Corporate Sponsors Partners in Service Integrity Bank Lewis-Palmer School District 38 Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce Barb Brandon, July 28rd, the 209th day of the year. Of note, 209= Also, 209 is a "Self number." What is a "Self Number" you ask? A self number, Colombian number or Devlali number is an integer

10 Tri-Lakes Women's Club Tri-Lakes Cares Gold Sponsors which, in a given base, cannot be generated by any other integer added to the sum of that other integer's digits. For example, 21 is not a self number, since it can be generated by the sum of 15 and the digits comprising 15, that is, 21 = No such sum will generate the integer 20, hence it is a self number. These numbers were first described in 1949 by the Indian mathematician Dr. Kaprekar. In their spare time, Kiwanians might want to explore self numbers for patterns. JJ Tracks Tri-Lakes Printing Wave's End Services, LLC Silver Sponsors Hunter-Wolff Gallery The Wine Seller Jim Taylor has a few words about Strokes. Over 700,000 people in the US will experience a stroke this year. Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability. Stroke Types: Ischemic-83%, a blood clot Harry Brandon provided humor. First, he provided an observation - when an Air Force or Army flag officer provides input, it is just a general comment. However, when a Navy flag officer provides a comment it is an admirable comment. Second, Harry had an observation from his trip to Virginia last week. After returning from lunch, one of the conference directors, who is a native Virginian, asked Harry how the lunch was. Harry replied, "It was really good. I went through that lunch like Grant went through Richmond." The director replied, "It's too soon..." Third, a joke. There were three engineers going to a conference - a chemical engineer, a mechanical engineer, and a computer engineer. They were in their government car going to the conference when the car started making really bad noises with clunking and hesitating. They pulled over to discuss how to solve this problem. The chemical engineer said this sounds like fuel contamination. They should drain the gas and put in new gas. The mechanical engineer said he thinks the

11 Hemorrhagic-17%, bleeding in the brain, like a burst aneurism carburetor is broken and the butterfly valve needs to be rebuilt. The computer engineer said, "no, just turn it off, we'll get out, we'll get back in, turn it on and it'll be fine." Stroke Symptoms B.E.F.A.S.T. B BALANCE: Watch for sudden loss of balance. E EYES: Is there a sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes? Or double vision? F FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop? A ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward? S SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange? T TIME: If you observe any of these, call 911 immediately. Time is critical! Jim's final thought: The great question, which he has not been able to answer... is, "What does a woman want?" Progressive Drawing July 28, 2018 Winner this week is: Benny Nasser (again) Kiwanis Progressive Drawing Stats: Date of drawing: 7/28/18 Chips this drawing: 10 Carry over from last week: $0 Today's 1/2 ticket sales: $25 Total for today's drawing: $25 Amount won & donated: $5 Amount won and kept by winner: $0 Available for next week's drawing: $20
