1 Jasper Georgia Rotary Web: May 17, 2017 Jasper Rotary Brings Home The Gold By Steve Lawrence Jasper Rotary Brings Home the Gold Once upon a time, a new Rotary Club President had a dream of achieving the Gold Level Award for accomplishing the District 6910 s Governors goals during her term. Being both tenacious and determined (she once ground up half of a bull moose on her kitchen table) this new president motivated her Club, both leaders and members, by showing all of us that it is perfectly acceptable to have fun while pursuing our goals. During her year we had a lot of fun. At District Assembly on May 13th, all that fun paid off. The Rotary Club of Jasper and Rotary President Kay Lawrence received the following extraordinary recognition. 1. Gold Level Award 2. District Service Award 3. Rotary Club Builder Award 4. Public Image Award 5. Rotary Foundation EREY Award Congratulations to our President Kay Lawrence and to every Rotarian who contributed their time and talents. We are THE Rotary Club of Jasper! Wright Jr. Sergeant-at-Arms Steve Moranos Rotary Foundation Chair,International Service Chair Debra Williams Membership Chair Steve Lawrence Webmaster Max Caylor Club Service Chair,International Service Chair DONNA SHORT Vocational Service Chair Jimmy Thompson Past President EVERY ROTARIAN BRING ONE GUEST! As we prepare to dedicate our Peace Pole, I continue to reflect on peace and its universal importance. Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. Pray for peace within yourself, our community, our nation and our world. Please invite your friends, family, co-workers and church members to attend our dedication ceremony on Wednesday, May 24 th at noon at Rotary Peace Park. I m asking every Rotarian to bring at least one guest. Let s celebrate! Our park is a place to rest and reflect on the call for peace. May this Peace Pole stand for generations and May Peace Prevail on Earth!
4 PEACE POLE DEDICATION AT JASPER ROTARY PEACE PARK By Steve Lawrence MAY 24th-PEACE POLE DEDICATION AT ROTARY PEACE PARK On Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12:00 P.M., the Rotary Club of Jasper will dedicate our Peace Pole. The dedication ceremony will be held at Rotary Peace Park located behind the Boys and Girls Club of Jasper. The GPS address is 101 Freedom Way, Jasper, Georgia. One of Rotary Internationals primary areas of focus is the promotion of peace throughout the world. Peace Poles are recognized as the most prominent international symbol and monument for peace. They symbolize the oneness of humanity and our common wish for a world at peace. Peace Poles bear the message, May Peace Prevail on Earth in the different languages of the world. In considering a Peace Pole for their park, the Rotary Club of Jasper recognized the unique opportunity available to us as the home of Georgia Marble. Our Peace Pole was manufactured locally by Blue Ridge Marble and carved from the same marble as was used in Washington, DC to build the Lincoln Memorial. Placed on a marble base, our monument totals ten ft. in heigth. On each of the four sides of the pole, two different languages will display the Peace Pole message of, May Peace Prevail on Earth for a total of eight different languages. Our Peace Pole displays English, Cherokee, French, Esperanto, Spanish, German, Italian and Russian languages will also mark the 100th year of the beginning of the Rotary Foundation. This Peace Pole will serve to commemorate that event for the Rotary Club of Jasper. We invite you to join the Rotary Club of Jasper in this celebration of peace. A light lunch will be served immediately following the dedication. For planning purposes, please RSVP to jaspergarotary@gmail.com.
