1 THE TIDINGS Settle Memorial United Methodist Church 202 East Fourth Street Owensboro, Kentucky Church Office (270) Dedicated to Christ Committed to Serve Radio Broadcast -WKWC Sunday 11:00 A.M. Worship Service Podcast - website: Vol. 45, No. 1 January 2017 New Year Sanctuary Choir Cantata It s been an amazing As one year ends and another begins, I am reflecting on the ministry we share. December was full of joy and generosity: The sanctuary choir and children s program told us the gospel story in song Tou gave 240 gifts to children on the mission tree The Open Door Sunday School class sponsored a Thanksgiving meal, a Christmas meal and invited Santa to share gifts with all of our guests and children. Two hundred plus attended the Christmas meal. Naturally, this list is just a sampling of Settle s ministry. In preparing for the New Year, I want to invite you to make a list from 2016 and look back at what God has done in and through you. We are beginning to do this with the leadership of the Vision team and one of the things that we discovered is how much fun it is to remember. I found myself saying, Oh I forgot we did that this year. Some events we may want to forget. Perhaps it was a failure, or a painful moment of loss in a relationship. It s all there when we look back: the joy and generosity along with the challenges. If we look close enough, there is grace in all of it. As the old hymn says, Grace that is greater than all our sin. Children s Program Mission Tree Gifts We ll begin 2017 with a time of recommitment. In our worship services on January 8, we will hear the story of Jesus baptism and renew our baptism vows. On that same day, following the late services, we ll have our leadership luncheon. Our new leadership teams will gather to organize and begin a new year together. Please mark your calendars and prepare to participate. I am grateful for the ministry we share. Let s listen together, speak graciously, serve humbly that we may be a living expression of God s love in all that we say and do in the new year. Grace, Mercy and Peace be yours, Darren Community Christmas Meal
