First, we are gathered here to worship God and to celebrate the gi of the Holy Eucharist. May you find our church as a place of solace and peace. May all the saints and the souls in heaven in a special way praying for you in renewing your faith and restoring your hope during your quiet me of prayer and reflec on. During the next two weeks, we con nue with our Treasure ( thing or offertory) commitment. The treasure stewardship program is a great way to express our gra tude to God for all of His blessings and to encourage all of us and to financially support the ministries of our parish. P.U.T.T. (Purpose; Update; Though ul; Thankful) a term from golf is the acronym we hope that will help you to understand our calling as God s children and our invita on to you to be God s good stewards here on earth. Sunday Offerings and Dona ons to our Church (Tithing). P.U.T.T. is vitally important for all of us as a church to reflect upon God s gi and what God has done for us in our lives. God s greatest gi to our humanity is Jesus Christ. For this revela on, we are grateful. The Parish Annual Financial Report for This weekend, representa ve of our finance council will give their personal tes monies and share with you their journey of faith and as parishioners. Members of the finance council and the parish staff diligently generate our parish s annual report for you to review, and I welcome your sugges ons. I encourage you to pray and reflect on our annual report and your family income. We are One Body of Christ, One Church, and One Mission! Last Saturday at St. Anthony Croa an Center, our Friends in Harmony, CCSV Capilla choir, and CCS student choir performed beau fully, jolly, and upli ing at the same me. The event would not have been possible without the support and the sacrifices of so many volunteers and dedicated parishioners and staff. May our Lord bless you and your family always. 2 STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM Purpose Updated Thoughtful Thankful Each year we renew our commitment to help our beloved parish by way of sharing our time, talents and treasures with each other and within our community. We repeat our theme from the last two years with the acronym PUTT. Many love the game of golf and to become really good at it requires practice. To PUTT on the green is one aspect of golf that requires thought, planning, a sharp eye, and using just the right amount of strength. We are using PUTT as an acronym to easily remind us of the character of our church offerings. Can we see the purpose of our church offering as helping fulfill the work, care, and love of God? Essential are the maintenance and beautification of the church, distribution of the Eucharist and teaching materials, housing for our pastor, operation of the parish office that coordinate various activities to allow the parish community to assemble, be edified, and, most importantly to spread the Gospel. Is our offering updated with the times? Using the Consumer Price Index, we can see that purchasing power has gone down over time. A gallon of milk gallon in 2004 was $2.88, but now $3.67. A pound of white bread in 2004 was 95 cents, but now $2.32. Electricity per KWH in 2004 was.09 cents, but now.14 cents. When we do not regularly increase our financial offering year, we are really reducing our offering. Is our church offering thoughtful much like a gift we would give to a loved one? Nowadays, gift cards are in increments that represent a tangible value, such as a $5 cup of coffee, a $15 pair of movie tickets, or a $50 restaurant gift card. There are no $1 gift cards. Like giftgiving, do we spend careful attention (time & thought) into the offering we place inside our envelopes? Finally, is our church offering a reflection of being thankful? The fact that all good things come from God - family, job, annual pay increases, oxygen, all material things, and life itself should prompt us to be grateful and generous to our loving and gracious God. 3 STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM What does God call me to give? Your church contribution has a spiritual dimension which must be seen in the light of faith as an exercise in stewardship. By our faith, we believe that everything we have is from God. He gave us our life, our talents, our strengths and our treasures. Without Him, we would have nothing. Without Him, in fact, we would not even exist. We are managers. Because everything is a gift from God, we are only stewards, or managers of all that we have our life, our talents, our time, our treasures. They all belong to God. So we do not have absolute ownership of anything. It is our responsibility to take care of and make good use of what God has entrusted to us. If we act as though whatever we have is the result simply of our own efforts, our own work, our own cleverness, our own planning, then we are not only mistaken but we are denying, in effect, that it is God who is the Lord of the universe and all that it contains. We acknowledge God s existence and His ownership of everything by exercising good stewardship. That means managing everything well and responsibly. It also means using some of our time, some of our talents and some of our treasures directly to acknowledge God s existence and to further the knowledge, acceptance and love of God in this world. Our need to give arises from believing that God sent his only Son to us to make him known to us and his Son gave his life for us. His love for us is unconditional.
