2 A MESSAGE FROM FR. TRUC You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence (Acts 2:14). Dear First Communion Children, Parents, Parishioners and Visitors: Happy Easter for Christ is risen from the dead! This weekend will be special and very special for our first communion children both from our church and our school. I would like to congratulate all of them for their faith and their acceptance of Christ into their living souls and spirits. The Holy Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith where Christ nourishes our bodies and strengthens our souls. Jesus transforms us each day as Catholics when we come to church and receive the Holy Eucharist. This is our paths of life. This transformation is essential for us living out God s commandment to love: love God and love our neighbor. As a result, on Sunday, when our First Communion children receive the Holy Eucharist, we as a Family of God sings the Gloria and the Alleluia not only to celebrate Christ s resurrection but also for our children. May the Light of Christ be present to them and give them joy with their families in everything that they do and accomplish in life. On behalf of our parish, I am thankful to Sr. Anna Tom and our parish catechists, Ms. Lourdes Parra Valaroso (2nd Grade teacher), Ms. Tina Kipp (principal) and CCS staff for their teaching of the faith and understanding of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist. I am grateful to all the parents for your guidance in allowing and encouraging your children to keep the Catholic faith. Please continue this commitment of faith for yourselves and for your children as they grow older in life. The Joy of Easter is Jesus Freedom and Faith On this Easter Sunday, I reflected on freedom. To live life is not just to survive, but to live life itself because of freedom. Often times we take this freedom for granted until it is taken away from us. During Easter, our Church reminds us that the Risen Christ conquered sin and death on the Cross, which gave us the freedom in life. We are no longer enslaved by sins and therefore should not be enslaved by others. Many of us are blessed as we live in the United States to embrace this freedom in life and faith: freedom to practice our religion and freedom to exercise our rights as citizens. Thus, as Christians, we need to invite one another on this journey of freedom: let us go with God and let God go with us. The Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday) highlighted the gift of Faith given through Jesus resurrection. The doubting Thomas in John s Gospel helps us to realize how important faith is to all of us. Living life is not just all about facts or fears any more but the foundation of life is faith and freedom. Unfortunately, there are members in our families and friends who live their faith based only on facts and cannot enjoy the gift of freedom because of their fears. True and authentic faith in Triune God is never about facts and/or fears. Both freedom and faith are gifts from God through Christ s Paschal Mystery. Let us go with God and Let God go with us must be proclaimed by all of us throughout the 50 days of Easter. One Hail Mary Each Day During the Marian Month in May Mary is our focus with the universal Church and for our parish in particular where we recite a decade of the mysteries of Holy Rosary after each Sunday Mass. We started this tradition since Our hope is to encourage all of us especially our youth to have a strong devotion to Mary and a better understanding of our Tradition as to why we honor Mary. This year, I encourage all of us as parishioners to say one Hail Mary a day throughout the 31 days in May. Include with the one Hail Mary, your intention offering to God, and seek for Mary s intercession and intervention in your life. One Hail Mary a day in May will strengthen our Faith in God and our Freedom in one another. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing, I encourage you and invite you to join us in this exercise. 3 RECOGNIZING JESUS St. Peter speaks to us twice today. In the first reading, we hear an excerpt from his sermon on Pentecost; in the second, part of his first Letter. Once a frightened, uneducated fisherman who often said just the wrong thing, now Peter is speaking what he knows to be true. Everything Jesus had said now makes sense. His death and rising were all part of God s plan, and our faith and hope can be centered on God. WORSHIP, LITURGY & FAITH Today s Gospel tells the story of Jesus walk to Emmaus with two of the disciples. Frightened, sad, and confused, the two don t recognize Jesus, who tells them what we heard Peter say above: all this had to happen as part of God s plan. In the end, these disciples recognize Jesus as we are to recognize him in the breaking of the bread. J. S. Paluch Co. May is the Month of Mary Treasures from our tradition Mystagogy, reflection on the Easter mysteries, is the chief task of these great fifty days, a pentecost, in other words, of grace and renewal. Every Sunday we have accounts of Resurrection appearances of the Lord, and sketches of the earliest efforts at being church. Lent is described as a journey to the font, and Easter may be described in similar terms, since at the very beginning an angel tells the apostles that the Risen Lord has gone before you into Galilee. Galilee, of course, was the place where Jesus did his finest work, his preaching, his healing, his gathering the lost and the marginalized to the table. At Easter, we hurry to catch up, putting our renewed baptismal promises to work in our own personal Galilees, our little worlds waiting for a word of grace, a healing, an act of pardon, an invitation to share a meal. The water often splashed on our Sunday assemblies in Eastertide remind us: these are the golden, shining days of grace, days to nurture the heart, to speak to one another about things that really matter. James Field, JSP LECTORS & EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS SCHEDULE: MAY 10 11, TEAM 2 Praying the Rosary as one parish community As we do each year, we will begin to pray one decade of the Rosary in honor of Mary, at each of the Sunday Masses during the month of May. May 4th: Joyful Mysteries May 11th: Sorrowful Mysteries May 18th: Glorious Mysteries May 25th: Luminous Mysteries The Power of One Hail Mary One Hail Mary well said fills the heart of Our Lady with delight and obtains for us indescribably great graces. Hail Mary, Full of Grace, The Lord is with Thee. Blessed art Thou among women, and Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.
