Dear Parishioners and Visitors: During the last two weeks, I came and made an appeal to you to participate in our parish s stewardship program. I pray that the Spirit of the Lord has inspired you to respond and participate in the ministries of our church. Members of our finance council and I presented to you our parish s annual financial report. Your generosity through your time, talent, and treasure is a great extension of service. I appealed to you last Sunday for your generous offering to our Sunday giving either weekly, monthly, or yearly. GIVE TO GOD WHAT IS RIGHT AND NOT WHAT IS LEFT. I encourage all of us a members of CCSV to reflect upon this statement of our commitment to God with our stewardship effort of time, talent and treasure. Do the time we give to God to worship as a community, the offering that we give to support our church, the participation in the various ministries-- are they intentional by us or the time, the offering, and the participation are just the left over? We explained to you that our Sunday collection had diminished to more than $25K dollars, and our total income was lower by $73K comparing to the last fiscal year report. I hope you had a chance to review the report. I encourage each family and parishioners to reflect God s calling and your responses to God s invitation. 1. Participation in Sunday Offerings or Donations - Just a Few Dollars More! 63 Parishioners with 6 New Parishioners Signed Up I am truly grateful for the 63 parishioners who responded so favorably to last week Sunday offering commitment. I also want to welcome the 6 new parishioners for their generous support. As I indicated previously, according to our budget, we need to increase our Sunday offering by seven percent (7%) comparing to last year in order to balance our budget. P.U.T.T. is a great reminder of our situations in life and our relationship with God and with one another. We are called to renew our purpose in life, to update our status and commitment, to be thoughtful and thankful with God and the people that we have a relationship with such as families, friends, or co-worker I understand that some of you may be experiencing hardships with your family or yourself. Just do your very best with the means or resources that you have at this time. For those of you who did not have a chance to make your Sunday offering, I pray that you respond and assist us and our ministries at CCSV. (Continued on next page.>>)
2 (Fr. Truc s message continued) 2. PATHWAY TO SERVICE - An Invitation to Use Your Time & Talents for God This is our house. We are family. Our church has been using this theme as a way to connect all of us as a family of God of approximately 500 registered families. Members of our PLC, the parish staff and I came up with this new initiative hoping that you could take part in our 2015 Stewardship campaign. A PATHWAY TO SERVICE is an invitation to S.E.R.V.E. our church s ministries with your time and talents. We are all called to S SUPPORT one another. We have been E EMPOWERED by God through the sacrament of baptism to R REACH beyond and within ourselves to be with others and to V VALUE one another Time and Talent Opportunity! without any prejudice or distinction and to E EVANGELIZE the Good News of Jesus. As a family at CCSV we are here to serve you and to serve one another. I am grateful to the thousands of hours that a small number of parishioners volunteered and donated to our church because of their time and talents; commitment and service to God. Together we are not all alone; we are One because of Christ and the combined effort and sacrifices by everyone. I pray that you will respond favorably and participate to this year s Stewardship Program. I am thankful for the members of the PLC for their dedication and commitment to our parish. 3 Reflecting On Our Time & Talents The volunteers in our parish, by their selfless acts, truly demonstrate the meaning of being one parish community of faith. With their service, they build community; their time and talents help grow, strengthen, and nurture the life and faith of our parish. Approximately 150 of our members are active in about 12 ministries in our parish and have donated thousands of hours in service to our church. Many of these volunteers have multiple roles who are involved in more than one ministry in our parish. The Environment Committee members and volunteers helped design, prepare and clean our church for the liturgies throughout the year, which include Holy Days and the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter. The beautiful flowers that adorned our church all year long was from one very generous parishioner! Their tireless efforts in taking care of our church are unparalleled which makes estimating their donated time a daunting task. The Altar Linen ministry rinsed, washed and ironed all parish corporals, purificators, altar towels, priest s cassocks and altar server albs all year. Try counting all the pieces multiplied by the number of days they performed this task quietly! About 100 volunteers donated in excess of 3,000 hours of service in liturgical ministries, which include Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Altar Servers, Ushers, Sacristans and Music Ministers. They truly fulfill their baptismal call of service to one another. Their contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations. Our four weekend Masses and special liturgies were supported by approximately 40 altar servers from our school. More than 50 people and thousands of hours donated their musical talents to our music liturgies as a choir member and instrumentalist. More than 30 volunteers have donated over 1,500 hours to our Religious Education programs either as catechists, aides, office duties, chaperones in support of the parish s programs for the children and youth in our community. Our Eucharistic Ministers to the Homebound made countless visits to Hancock Park Rehabilitation Center, to hospitals in our community, and to our senior parishioners who are unable to attend weekday and Sunday Masses. Because of everyone s tireless efforts and donations, our Outreach ministry have donated food, clothing and sundry items to our neighboring shelters during the past year. One of the more important ministries in our parish, which is often overlooked, is the Counting Group Ministry. They are parishioners who quietly volunteer each week to count and deposit donations collected from all the Masses during the weekend. They help make the church an accountable place of worship. Over 1200 hours were donated by the members of the Counting Group. Our Hospitality and special events ministry have donated thousands of dollars in the form of ticket & raffle sales, patron donations, flower donations and other forms of special donations to our church. On top of that are the thousands of hours donated by each committee member planning, coordinating and executing all the successful events in our parish. The combined efforts of our Pastoral Liturgy and Finance Councils have been crucial in the life of our parish. Their wisdom, counsel, faith, love and dedication for many years have made our parish what it is today. Volunteers are examples, truly living out the mission of Cathedral Chapel parish, united in Christ through education and service, we share the word and celebrate the sacraments, and welcome and embrace all in the praise and service of God. Thank you to all our dedicated volunteers for your loving, unselfish, caring, patient and noble actions! All of you are most deserving of our gratitude!
4 Parishioners Unite Time and Talents Church Ministry: A Faith Lived life of prayer... life of service... life of love... God entered into a covenant of love with us, his people.
