How are you New Year's resolutions working out? In January, we Knights mark the Supreme Court's decision in Roe vs. Wade to legalize abortion. There are events locally and nationwide to mourn the deaths of so many unborn and the long-lasting consequences to the mothers who never were. On Friday, January 22, we will have a rosary and Mass at St. Joseph church at 7:00PM. I urge you all to attend and pray for our babies and our nation. There are 14 directors to be elected. All members in good standing of Salem Council 4442 are members of the Bishop Peterson Corporation and eligible for election as a Director. If you wish your name to be on the ballot contact Don Gagne, corporation president. Although nominations from the floor are accepted, having names in advance allows preparation of ballots ahead of time. All members are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting and vote in this important election. The corporation owns and maintains the hall and grounds, and it sets policy for its use and rental. The council rents the hall from the corporation. For legal reasons of liability and insurance, Supreme has set rules that councils shall not directly own property; thus a separate corporation was created to buy the property, renovate, and own the hall we use for our events. Our hall is in use for many functions besides our council meetings. The hall is an excellent meeting space for our blood drives, council parties, breakfast and dinner events, and rental by members for socials, showers, and anniversaries, or other non-partisan political event. Take pride in the great location we have for our use; take part in its operation and maintenance. Come vote; consider being a director.

This is the time for us ordinary people to take the message of Christmas and put into effect what we have heard. We Three Kings Children's Christmas Party Dec 20 - Santa Santa and Friends Curley, Larry, and Moe Seen at the gazebo at the Salem Town Center, were three wise men ( wise-guys?), who helped at the opening ceremonies for the Christmas tree lighting. Dave, Sim, and Ken volunteered to dress the part and add a little decorum to the pageantry. (Probably very little decorum was added!- ed) Thanks to those guys for going out on a very cold night. We gathered at 1:00PM, and grabbed some pizza and sandwiches, and chatted. The kids enjoyed themselves getting acquainted with each other, and dancing to the tune of the accordion player. Suddenly, about 2:00PM, Santa made an entrance with a hearty Ho! Ho! Ho! and went to his Santa chair beside the Christmas Tree. Magically, there were presents under the tree, and Santa called each child up and handed a wrapped package to them. We want to thank Santa, and look forward to his visit again next year! 5

7 Visit to Veterans' Center in Manchester Dec 13 Rico Casaletto On Sunday, Dec. 13, five members of the Knights of Columbus and two of their wives visited hospitalized veterans at the VAMC to wish the veterans a Merry Christmas and present each of the 42 patients with a little token of our gratitude (a $5.00 canteen certificate to the center's gift shop.). The first veteran we visited served in The United States Air Force during the Korean War, and as I shook his hand, he remarked that my hands were that of a working man and reminded him of his youth growing up on a farm in Hudson. He also remembered my wife who had helped him with his Bingo cards in October. The next veteran had served with The US Navy during WWII told me that he served on an aircraft carrier, in the Mediterranean Sea. The next was an Army veteran who had served for 18 years, during the Korean War and the war in Vietnam. The next was a Marine; I told him we had just had dinner with a young marine who was stationed at Parris Island, he said "ah Parris Island, I remember it." Although his right hand was covered with a protective glove, he stretched out his hand to shake my hand. The next patient stopped eating and thanked me for taking the time to visit him. The last patient was proudly wearing a WWII baseball cap, a big smile came upon his face and he thanked us. Each and every patient I spoke with, thanked me for taking the time to come and visit them, to wish them a Merry Christmas, and for the gift which we had brought. Giving to the Veterans One patient offered my wife the chocolate they had for a dessert, he said he wished it could be more. On our drive back to the Council Hall, Al remarked how one patient had opened the envelope and remarked, I can really use this because I am going to the canteen in the morning. I feel we left the VAMC feeling better when we had arrived. I wish to thank the Knights and our wives who helped( Walter and Gail Coleman, Al Faucher, Dennis Grouix, Dan Buck and my wife, Patricia Casaletto) and K of C Council 4442 for sponsoring this event News Items: Recent updates and events: The State Quarterly Meeting (<< click on link) is to be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at the Suncook Knights of Columbus Meeting location (St. John The Baptist) 10 School Street, Suncook, NH. Lunch will be offered by the host Council Reservations can be made for lunch until Jan 22. Lunch will be served from 12:00 noon to 12:45pm. There will also be Mass at 10:00am at St. John The Baptist Church in Suncook. Meeting: 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Attire: jacket, tie and jewel of office. Bill Richards announced that there are rumors that in August, a Night for Knights at the Fischer Cats may be planned. This would be state-wide for Knights. Maybe we can watch Al Faucher and Jose Moreno in a race around the bases. We hope that the state council selects a game pitting the Fisher Cats against the Red Sox farm team, the Portland Sea Dogs ; and we want fireworks! There will be a special state Lenten program, Forty Days for Life, starting on Ash Wednesday, Feb 10. (Yes, the start of Lent is that soon!) Again, click on that link above for full details. The Supreme Insurance Agency, in conjunction with our NH State Council, announced in 2014 the Golden Knight Award, which recognizes any and all members who bring in 5 new members in any fraternal year. All any Knight needs to do is to bring in 5 new members with you as their sponsor. A special award will be presented to you at the State Convention by the State Deputy. 7

9 Baby Items Wanted for Donation Paul St.Amand I will be taking a laundry basket of baby items to the quarterly meeting. Each council is asked to bring a basket of stuff to be distributed to the pregnancy care centers in our state. (The basket itself is a needed item.) A list of requested items was in the December newsletter, but use your imagination. Any item for babies is wanted! Diapers, blankets, bibs, onesies, feeding spoons, stretch outfits, maternity clothes... The basket is in our hall on a table. You can drop off any donated items, up until the time I leave for the quarterly meeting, Sunday 11:00AM, Jan 24. Relay For Life Mike Banks I'm supporting the American Cancer Society and participating in Relay For Life. I would love for you to join my Knights of Columbus - Kiwanis team.
