As I write this, Christmas is only one week away. I haven't even started to buy presents! The mall is packed, people scurrying around, some smiling, but others in panic mode. Is the most wonderful time of the year all about gift giving? We know it is not, but we do get caught up in all the hype. Keeping Christ in Christmas takes prayerful reflection, and that takes time and effort. May we always take time for prayer and to give thanks for all we have. So what do I get my grand kids? (See, I'm already fallen back onto the topic of gift giving!) I must remind myself that the most precious gift I could give is not the shiny package that will be ripped open, the toy bringing a big smile for a few minutes before the battery runs out or the made in China precious moment lies broken in the trash bin. The greatest presents I can give is the gift of my presence, of time being with Papa. I do want to thank the volunteers who gave of their presence and helped out in many of the Council's activities this past month. There was the Parade, the Veteran's Christmas Gifts, Christmas party for adults and for kids, Toy Distribution, putting up Nativity mangers and lights for our churches. Read more of these works in this edition of the newsletter. And have a Merry Christmas and may the Peace of Christ be with you throughout the New Year. Vivat Jesus! Paul St.Amand So I was puzzled after reading the Gospel this 4th Sunday of Advent. How come the angel said to Joseph... and he shall be called Emanuel. But another angel said to Mary,...and you shall name him Jesus. Which angel was right? How come Jesus wasn't named Emanuel? A little research solves the discrepancy. I got mixed up between the words he shall be called and he shall be named. The he shall be called phrase describes the nature of Jesus. It describes who he is. He is God with us. (Emanuel) ; but he is also called many titles in the Bible, Son of the Most High, the Christ, Son of the Living God, the Alpha and the Omega, Lord, Master. Jesus is called many titles to reveal his nature, but he was named Jesus. My name is Paul, but I have been called many things, like Papa, Husband, Worthy Grand Knight, plus many words I don't want to repeat in print!

Texan Poker Larry Belair Larry Belair would like as many Brother Knights to attend the Jan 10 th Salem Planning Board meeting at 7:00pm to support the Texas Hold-em Fund zoning proposal. Blood Drive Next Blood Drive is January 19th Volunteers will be needed. The request by Fr Tom for $1,000 for a prom for the Special Needs Children at SJRC passed and approved. A parish request, for money for an AED device for St Joseph's Church, first suggested by Mark Alfano and then through Fr. Tom, will come from the Special Projects Line in the 2016 budget, previously approved. No vote was needed, since the total budget item has unused money to cover the AED $1,469 expense. (Fr. Tom in to the GK, reminded him that given the age of many of the Knights, our members might need that AED soon! - ed) FYI: There is already an AED installed at MQP, located in the foyer near the secretary's office. New Business Trustees: there were no donation requests from the Trustees. (Bob Fournier breathed a sigh of relief. - ed) A Notice of Motion: Butch Kealey requested $3,000 for lights for the Corporation Hall. GOOD OF THE ORDER A big Thank You to the Christmas Tree Light Fairy, who singlehandedly put up the new LEB bulbs for Christmas at MQP. It only took the magical light fairy two hours to do the job. 5 Knight of the Month for December to Ron Bourque For communications as Lecturer in the council. And, for being a Pro-Life advocate. After pushing our council last year to purchase an ultrasound machine in Littleton, and getting our story out into publication, a CEO made contact with Ron and two free ultrasound machines found new homes. Ron did the leg work to qualify the Ron Bourque centers, all no cost to the December KOM council. And after the Baton Rouge Floods, Ron called to his friends at Supreme, whom he worked with last year, and found the need of a council that was looking for ultrasound support. (They had already donated two machines, but the flood wiped them both out.) Ron motivated our council to donate the remaining needed funds.) Attendance Drawing The December drawing for $40 was not won by Greg Sapochetti, absent. Anyone can win! Attend the January meeting; the prize is $50, and we will pick numbers until a winner is drawn! Closing Prayer was led by GK Paul. Amen! Meeting adjourned at 9:00PM. Some Contact Information for our Council Members' quick access If you have a question and need to talk and don't have , one of us should be able to get you an answer! links for GK, DGK, Chaplain are on the web site. 7 Salem Holiday Parade On a sunny Sunday, November 27, members of our council and assembly strutted our stuff at the Salem parade. The ranks were thin this year, with only 8 Brothers marching. We had a good contingent of Knights in two cars and on the float. Also on the float this year were two cub scouts, the great grandsons of departed Brother Dick Dube. Dick Dube's great grandsons. Where are St. Amand and Collopy? Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Dave Thompson and crew prepared a warm meal for our return. Catch you later. And who would have thunk it! Our group was judged 2 nd best in the parade. Mike Petrilli received the award on behalf of the council and brought it to the meeting for display. Second Place Parade selfie DAY OF FASTING, ROSARY. January Please join with members of our neighboring parishes in penance for the sins of our nation against the Culture of Life. The type of fast can be selected by each individual, but it is suggested to abstain from solid foods for 24 hours starting 7:00 pm, Sunday evening, Jan 22, Adoration and rosary also begin Sunday 7:00 pm in the chapel at St.Mark s Church, Londonderry. 8 Adult Christmas Party The Knights of Columbus annual Christmas party was held on Saturday December 10th. A good meal was put on by the caterer, Lenzi's of Methuen. (He was short-handed on servers, since three of the six waitresses didn't show. But it made for a more leisurely meal!) Thank you to our hosts, Wil and Tina Boutin. and a Shout out to 'Lucy,' the real power behind the scenes! -ed Tina and Wil Boutin Sim: Hey, where's my soup! FYI Presented by Knights of Columbus, NH State Council. 8

9 Salem Christmas Toy Distribution: (mid-drive report) - Alan Phair A big Thank You to the workers at the Salem Transfer Station. On a very cold December 10, they collected $1,000. Probably the toughest part to schedule is the packing & returning of the excess toys to the storage container and the tables/chairs to the council and school. The date chosen at our council December meeting, is New Year's Eve morning, Dec 31, at 8:00AM. Meet at the Toy Distribution location, the old liquor store on South Broadway. Shoppers on Thursday, Dec 15. P.S. Don t forget that if you can do so, a contribution to the fund would be greatly appreciated. Checks can be sent to the Salem Christmas Fund, PO Box 1234, Salem NH or you can visit our new web site at and make a credit card donation on-line. Finally, and even more important, if you find yourself in a situation where you need help or you know a family that needs assistance, please let me or if you prefer, one of the other Board members. Arrangements can be made for private toy pickups for example so that no one will know other than myself. I can guarantee you won t be the first nor the last to need assistance. Our goal has always been to never let a family go without necessary food, clothing or children without toys under the tree. May God Bless all of you for all you do to help us each year.alan Phair Children's Christmas Party Dec 18 Once again, Santa came for a surprise Christmas appearance at the corporation hall, with a present to give to the gathered ragamuffins. And we had a magic show while we ate our pizza, waiting for Santa. The GK thanks Tom Campbell for organizing this yearly event. What's in the box? Santa and friends 9

10 Knights Visit at VA Medical Center in Manchester Rico Casaletto On Sunday, December 11, 2016, six members of the Knights of Columbus and four wives visited hospitalized veterans at the VAMC to wish them a Merry Christmas and present each of the 42 patients with a little token of our gratitude. On this visit, instead of breaking up into groups and each group visiting a few patients, we visited each patient and were introduced to them by the volunteer who took us to each room. The patients were happy to tell us about their time in the service and where they served. As we were exiting the last room, one of the patients ran after us to share a bag of mints which he had. What I also learned at this visit was that some of the patients were actually there permanently, and some also are in hospice care. The Knights that visited were: Enrico Casaletto - Dennis Coleman - Richard Collopy - Dennis Groulx - Don Simmons and Paul St Amand. The wives that visited with us were: Patricia Casaletto - Gail Coleman - Jeanne Collopy and Linda Simmons. I wish to thank Council 4442 for sponsoring the event and supplying the funds, which were given to the patients.. Merry Christmas! 10
