John quoted excerpts from St. John Paul II's 1994 Letter to Families. The family has a vocation of love; it is a community of persons spouses, children, and relatives, that love and educate and serve others. The family shapes the children growing up. Fr. John gave an example from his own family of his father's nightly prayers at bedside. Seeing that example of faith inspired him. Fr. John then asked the members if they wanted to share an example from their own families. Several members gave stories of nightly rosaries, etc. The examples and the lessons from fathers and mothers shapes the lives of the children, and that shapes the future. District Deputy Report Dick Collopy 8:24PM: Dick brings greetings from our State Deputy, Rich McDermott. He renewed the goal of one new member per council per month, and mentioned that retaining every member is important, to keep our membership total up for the good of the future of the council. Join Bishop Peter A. Wednesday, March 18, 2015, 8:00AM, meet at the Holiday Inn, Concord, NH. This event will be offered at no charge to participants and will include lunch. At the Washington, DC, March for Life, there were 600,000 people attending. And it was good to see that many, if not most, of those present were young adults. This bodes well for the future and speaks loudly of the faith of our kids. Good of the Order Announcements Q: What did the snowman and his wife put over their baby s crib? A: A snowmobile! 8:30PM: Mike Petrilli announced that he has arranged for a contribution of four filled propane tanks for our grills from Osterman Propane, (local office in Methuen, MA.) We have two tanks now, two more on the way. These will replace the tanks stolen from us. (On behalf of our hamburgers and hot dogs, Thank you! To Mike and Osterman Propane! - ed) 8:31PM: Bill Richards said the State Convention will be May 1, 2, and 3. Alternates were named to attend, just in case. Save the date if anyone wants to go, and contact Bill later. (See the information on Page 7 ed.) Also, because Bill was sick for most of the month, and out of the loop. he did not name a Knight of the Month for February. 8:34PM Ron Bourque gave the Lecturer's Reflection. See page 8. Attendance Prize: 8:40PM: The attendance prize for $20 would have been won by John Breen, who was not present. Next month the prize is $30. This Knight also was not attending. He could not have won the prize. It pays to attend the meeting! Parish Mission 8:41PM. Fr. John announced the Parish Lenten Mission will be March 9 to 12. See the Parish bulletin for details. Closing Prayer and Adjournment: 8:42PM: We pray for all those in need, the sick, our soldiers, the Christians persecuted in the Middle East, and those on our prayer line and in our intention book. Amen! 4

5 Our Super Bowl Party: (by the editor) I attended our proposed Super Bowl Party to cheer on the Patriots at the council hall. Alan Phair had reminded us that there were three parties held in the past... and each time the Patriots won. The two times parties were NOT held, the Patriots lost. This party would be a no organization event. BYOB and BYOS (Bring your Hooray. I signed my Form 100! own snacks.) Show up, pull up a chair and a table, sit, enjoy, cheer, clean up. The Butler did it! So I decided to attend. I packed up my goodie box with snacks and salsa, and a few items of alcoholic content. After attending the 5:00PM Mass at St. Joseph, I went to the council hall at 6:10PM, to get ready. I was the first one in the hall, so I turned on the lights to make ready for the party. And I waited. And waited. No one came. I left the party at 6:40PM and went home. I had previously set my DVR to record the game for history, just in case. So I watched the victory by myself. At least I didn't have to share any of my snacks! Butch installs a few safety features for our viewing enjoyment. While we are at it... Let's pass along Thanks and Kudos to Butch Kealey, who built the entertainment cabinet below the TV screen to house the remotes, the sound system, DVD player, and the cable box. Mike Banks will finish labeling everything and will post instructions on the use of the system. (It was good that no one else showed up at the Super Bowl non- Party. The entertainment cabinet had a big padlock to protect it. No access to anything. We could not have watched the game anyway! The lock has since been removed.) Save the date: Deceased Members Mass on May 17, 11:00PM, MQP Details later. How Cold is this Winter? The Indians asked their Chief in Autumn if the Winter was going to be cold or not. Not really knowing an answer, the chief replies that the Winter was going to be cold with lots of snow, and that the members of the village were to collect wood to be prepared. Being a good leader, he then went to the next phone booth and called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this winter to be cold?" The man on the phone responded, "This Winter is going to be quite cold indeed." So the Chief went back to speed up his people to collect even more wood to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?" The man replied, "Yes", it's going to be a very cold Winter." So the Chief goes back to his people and orders them to go and find every scrap of wood they can find. Two weeks later he calls the National Weather Service again: "Are you absolutely sure that the Winter is going to be very cold?" "Absolutely," the man replies, "the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!" 5

6 Respect Life Mass The Annual Respect Life Mass of our Parish was held on Friday, January 23, at St. Joseph Church. This Mass is for the entire Parish, not just members of the Knights. Dennis Groulx is the organizer for this event. He and wife Irene prepared the snacks for later. A special Thank You to our Jesuit Priests and Deacon Dave who officiated at the Mass. Music for the Mass was sponsored by our council. Sim asks, Do you have the 2 nd decade? We pray for all life... Recessional Snacks and goodies! 7 State Convention Sign Up Time! - Bill Richards The NH Knights State Convention will be on the weekend of May 1, 2, and 3. Everyone needs to return their completed convention ticket order form to our attention, with a check to the council to cover the costs, before April 5, The council can only send in one check to cover all the attendees. So I will need everyone's individual forms and checks and then the council will send in a combined order form to the State. There is a package on the State Web Site that gives all the info. If you are reading this newsletter in the electronic format (on a computer or tablet), then you simply Click on this link to get to the package. Download the package, get all the info, and fill out the form. THEN give your info and check to Bill. For those who do not have electronic access, there are copies in the council hall, (in the upper bar area.). You can fill out the forms and so on... Remember, our council needs to get ALL it's information together to make out ONE CHECK to the State, by April 5. (No, I don't expect anyone to read these forms. These are only what the forms look like in the convention packet. CLICK HERE to get to the package at the state web site. Or, get the packet at our council hall. The wife and I purchased an old home in upper New Hampshire from two elderly sisters. Winter was fast approaching and the year's first snow came early, and my wife was concerned about the house's lack of insulation. "If they could live here all those years, so can we!" I confidently declared. One November night the temperature plunged to below zero, and we woke up to find interior walls covered with frost. I called the sisters to ask how they had kept the house warm. After a rather brief conversation, I hung up and muttered to the wife, "For the past 30 years, they've gone to Florida for the winter." Q: What do you call ten Arctic hares hopping backwards through the snow together? A: A receding hare line. 7

8 Lecturer's Reflection: Isn t this just like a man?... For my Birthday this year, my wife (the dear) purchased a week of private lessons at the local health club for me. Although I am still in great shape since playing on my high school softball team, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try. I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Tawny, who identified herself as a 26-year old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear. My wife seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started. The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress. Monday: Started my day at 6:00 AM. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Tawny waiting for me. (She is something of a goddess with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. WOO HOO!!!) Tawny gave me a tour and showed me the machines. She took my pulse after five minutes on the treadmill. She was alarmed that my pulse was so fast, but I attribute it to standing next to her in her aerobic outfit. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my own workout today. Very inspiring. Tawny was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!! Tuesday: I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out of the door. Tawny made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air. Then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Tawny s rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT!!! It s a whole new life for me. Wednesday: The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a Geo in the club lot. Tawny was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered the other club members. (Her voice is a little too perky for early in the morning, and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.). My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Tawny put me on the stair monster. (Why the HECK would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators?) Tawny told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other crap too. Thursday: Tawny was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. (I couldn t help being a half-hour late. It took that long for me to tie my fricking shoes.). Tawny took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the men s room. She sent Lars to find me, then, as punishment, put me on the rowing machine, which I sank. Friday: I hate that WITCH Tawny more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. (Stupid, skinny, anemic little cheerleader wanna-be WITCH). If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it. Tawny wanted me to work on my triceps. I don t have any triceps! And if you don t want dents in the floor, don t hand me fricking barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich. (Which I am sure you learned in the sadist school you attended and graduated magna cum laude from, you Nazi Witch.). The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and P.E. teacher. Why couldn t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director? Saturday: Tawny left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her made me want to smash the machine with my planner. However, I lacked the strength even to use the TV remote and ended up watching eleven straight hours of the lousy weather channel. Sunday: I m having the church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank God that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my wife (the WITCH) will choose a gift for me that is fun... like a root canal or a prostatectomy. Q: What do you call a snowman with a six pack? A: An abdominal snowman. (True... I needed filler this month. Hope you liked it. Enjoy the winter snow! -ed) 8
