3 Thy Kingdom Come Global Wave of Prayer From the website thykingdomcome.global Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement, which invites Christians around the world to pray between Ascension and Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus Christ. What started out as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in 2016 to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer. The hope is that: people will commit to pray with God s world-wide family - as a church, individually or as a family; churches will hold prayer events, such as 24-7 prayer, prayer stations and prayer walks, across the UK and in other parts of the world; people will be empowered through prayer by the Holy Spirit, finding new confidence to be witnesses for Jesus Christ. We will be having a special service on Saturday June 3 rd at 5pm at Brompton. It is an unusual service for us, with incense and prayer in front of the sacrament. It will last about 3/4 hour and include quite a bit of silence. Please look up the information online if you can, there are lots of ideas for personal prayer and family prayer. We are looking for your ideas on how the building could work for you and your family as a community hub. We have a number of ideas but really need your feedback to make sure we are targeting the appropriate means of action in our improvement plan. Please take the time to complete this survey as the bigger the response, the more accurately the result will reflect the views of the whole community. Welbury WI -Thursday 15th June, 7.30pm Welbury Village Hall. Speaker: Nicola Calder Figs Catering. Competition - Dried Fruit Animal WI Report for May Magazines, Memoirs and Monsters. Freelance journalist Christine Fieldhouse gave and interesting and frank account of her career and childhood which resulted in the writing her autobiography Why Do Monsters Come out at Night. Following her both entertaining and moving talk she kindly judged the limerick competition. Over supper Trish recounted amazing tales from the inspirational talk given by fighter pilot Mandy Hickson at a WI event near York. Visitors and new members always welcome. Please continue to leave donations as these are collected on a regular basis and taken to the FoodShare collection points in Northallerton prior to distribution. Most needed items currently are; Custard - tinned or packets, Pasta sauces, coffee, Jams/marmalade, UHT milk, Individual sponge puddings. The book we will discuss is The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry Welbury 150 club - The 150 club is a monthly prize draw that helps the PCC to look after the church and churchyard. A number costs 20 and this number is entered into the draw every month for 12 months (1st prize 50, 2nd prize 20 for 9 months with super draws at Christmas of 3x 100, 1x 50, April & September of 1x 100, 1x 20). Whilst there are numbers available there is no limit to the amount of numbers a person may buy! Three windows are in urgent need of restoration so it would be wonderful if all 150 numbers could be sold. Please give the completed form to any member of the PCC: Roger Bennett, Peter Walker, Kate Lindo, Pat Wade, Liz Moore, Mary Heald, Joanne Hughes or hand in at the Plant Sale on the 10th June in Welbury village hall. 6 Welbury Church Plant Sale Saturday 10 th June 2017 Welbury village hall 10am to 12noon. Entrance to include tea/coffee and home-made scone 2 adults, children free. In addition to plant stall there will be a cake stall, raffle and tombola. Opportunity to join the Welbury 150 club draw and to hand in renewals. Phil Thomas, Church Buildings Officer at Diocese of York. The church contains a splendid Strachan window and another window celebrating the life of the scholar & explorer Gertrude Bell now popularly known as Queen of the Desert. Talk begins 2pm in St Lawrence followed by a cream tea in East Rounton village hall. Tickets 7 from Joanne or or joannehughes311@btinternetcom (please contact ASAP if you would like a ticket due to limited numbers) Proceeds in aid of Welbury & Rountons churches Appleton Wiske Scarecrow Festival - Sat: 1 st & Sun: 2 nd July. From 11am to 5 pm Come along to this great, popular afternoon out and saunter round the village to find all the celebrity scarecrows. We are hoping for an appearance from the BFG this year. With stalls and attractions there is plenty to see. There is a treasure hunt for the children with prizes (more details at the event) and a miniature scarecrow making stall to keep them busy. Treats include and candy floss and ice cream stalls and for the adults a lovely cup of tea and homemade cakes, scones can be found in the Village Hall. Our delicious hot dogs and hamburgers will be available throughout the event. A must to visit are the art exhibition in the Chapel and the Church to see the exhibition of quilts made by the ladies of the village. We are so proud to announce that the ladies have donated a wonderful handmade quilt as a raffle prize. You will find the raffle and tombola in the village hall. Entrance fee only 2 per adult at the village hall (DL6 2AB), and includes a scarecrow map, children free. Free parking - All proceeds towards village facilities.

8 Monthly Meet & Mingle at St Leonard s, Welbury, Wednesday 7 th June pm-5pm the first Wednesday of every month. Come along and have a chat with your neighbours over a cup of coffee/juice Everyone welcome, especially those bringing a grown up! Family Service 9 th July St Leonard s, Welbury - As this is Sea Sunday there will be paper boats to be made and after the service a competition to see which floats longest and sails the best All welcome. Children are actively welcomed to participate in the service.
