5 November December 2017, Page 5 Fourth Degree Exemplification November 11, 2017 in Portsmouth, Virginia The Potomac Assembly had seven new Sir Knights who made the journey to Portsmouth for the Exemplification. This was the first time that the new SK wore dark suits and not the tuxedo. Also, we saw several Honor Guard members wearing the new uniform along with other Honor Guard wearing the current regalia. The banquet was a nice affair with a special treat, the service hymns were sung, which was very fitting on Veterans Day. 7 November December 2017, Page 7 Deceased Sir Knight Maurice Joseph Vagaggini Maurice J. Vagaggini, 97, of Alexandria, VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Emilia Assisted Care, Alexandria, VA. Born on May 23, 1920 in Harrisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Luigi and Margarita Barsanti Vagaggini. He was predeceased by his wife Setsu Vagaggini, his sisters Antoinette T. Vagaggini Murlin and Derna Vagaggini Gornik, and brother John G. Vagaggini. Left to right: SK Maurice Chau, SK Ed Stance, SK Emmet O Hare, SK John Dougherty, DD David Lewis, SK Nate Murray, SK Jim McCracken, FN SK Buck Coates He retired as a Correctional Officer with the DC Department of Corrections; Maurice served over 20 years with the US Army, including World War II, retiring as a SFC; a member of Saint Louis Catholic Church Alexandria, VA., the Knight of Columbus Council 11170, American Legion Post 162 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his son Joseph P. Vagaggini and grandchildren Jacqueline and Dylan Sereno of Woodbridge, VA and his sister Rose Vagaggini DiStephano of Hummelstown, PA and several nieces and nephews in PA. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at Saint Louis Catholic Church 2907 Popkins Lane, Alexandria, VA Visitation was held at the Church prior to the Mass. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at 1:00pm. Arrangements under the direction of Demaine Funeral Home, Alexandria, Virginia. 9th Annual Benefit for the Archdiocese for the Military Services November 18th Was held at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine Church in Washington, D.C. The Fourth Degree Honor Guard was present. This was hosted by Archbishop Timothy Broglio. The evening began with the Celebration of the Eucharist to pray for all veterans, living and deceased, who have honorably served our country. Photos are by Elizabeth Scheuren.

11 November December 2017, Page 11 Faithful Navigator s Comments Brother Sir Knights, we have had a very busy November this year. The highlight was the Exemplification on November 11th at Portsmouth, VA. We had 7 Knights participate in the Exemplification, become Sir Knights, and join our Assembly. The Exemplification team was excellent as usual. It is one of the best in the country with some members having served for 40 years. They are building another team so if you are interested in joining the new team, let me know. All the Faithful Navigators from across the State formed the Honor Guard for the Mass following the Exemplification. The FN and their white capes made an impressive sight. The dinner afterwards featured many of the new SK bringing in all the flags of the United States and the various service flags as part of the posting of the colors. It was a wonderful evening and we had some great SK joining us. There was a total of 151 Knights making their 4 th Degree. There was a meeting Sunday morning with the Master where we were instructed to get with the new uniform policy. He expects the extended price reduction and our duty to the Color Corps will make the transition successful. A few days later Supreme announced that there was an 8 thousand uniform backlog and Supreme extended the expiration date for our Regalia to 1 July Not sure we have heard the last directive on the new uniform. One new change was announced. For new Knights who do not have the tux, the social uniform is a dark suit worn with the social baldric. The only pin allowed on the suit is the PG-113 pin. All other pins are to be removed. The old regalia with tux and social baldric is still acceptable until July of The Color Corps has been very active. We have supported several wakes, funerals, and burials. We have also supported the Memorial Masses for both Fitzgerald Council and Mount Vernon Council. Both ceremonies were very well done and honored our brother Knights that have gone before us. The next big event is December 8 for the dedication of the Trinity Dome at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Show time is 1100 in a room down by the Crypt Church. This will be a Calvert Province event and the Supreme Knight will attend. The Knights are in large measure responsible for the Trinity Dome and the Master has asked for a maximum turnout. Please let me know if you will support our Honor Guard contingent. Our next social is Monday, 27 November to welcome our 7 new Sir Knights. We will award the new SK certificates and membership cards. It is in the lounge at the Mount Vernon Knights of Columbus Hall. It will be a family movie night beginning at 7:00 P.M. with a movie start time of 7:30. The movie will be Zootopia, a Walt Disney feature animation. We will have hamburgers, hotdogs and popcorn. We ask you to bring a salad or dessert. This is a family event, children are very welcome.
