3 BOWLING Who doesn t like to bowl? Join us Saturday March 19 at 3:00 PM for some bowling at Starlite Lanes. We had a BLAST when we went last year. The cost is $10 per person, which covers two games and shoe rental. After bowling, we will go to Pizza Hut for pizza. Please sign up in the Fellowship Hall whether you would like to bowl, eat pizza, or both as we have to know how many to make the reservations for. Happening at TRC OPEN FORUM AT TRC Trinity will be hosting an open forum on March 17 to discuss the upcoming RCA decision regarding human sexuality. See page 4 for more details. MAUNDY THURSDAY The Maundy Thursday service will be held on March 24 at 7pm. We WILL still have Family Night activities on Wednesday, March 23, and we are extending Family Night to March 30. We hope you can join us! LENTEN BREAKFAST The Women s Fellowship of St. Paul s UCC extends an invitation to attend their Annual Lenten Breakfast on Thursday, March 24, at 9:30am. Their program includes Master Arts Theatre, a Christian drama group from Grand Rapids, which will be performing The Story of John. Reservations can be made by calling Nadine mornings at the church office ( ). A freewill offering will be taken to help cover the cost of the breakfast and the program. Plan now to attend for a morning of fellowship and friendship! Prayer Corner Isaiah 56:7 For my house will be called a house of prayer. Maintaining a Well-balanced Prayer Life The Navigators a Colorado Springs-based ministry that began in 1933 and today is found on college campuses, military bases and in communities has always been known as a ministry of prayer. The Navigators emphasize the fact that Jesus followers live in desperate dependence upon the Lord. Followers of Christ must remember just how vital our relationship with Him is. I am the vine; you are the branches, Jesus said. If a man remains in me, and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing (John 15:5). 4 Human Sexuality Survey for Muskegon Classis Members Like many Christian denominations, the Reformed in America (RCA), has been discussing the issue of human sexuality and homosexuality. We first addressed the issue in An official position statement was affirmed by the General Synod (national governing body) at that time. However, we, as a diverse denomination, have not been able to rest with our officially stated position. The issue of human sexuality and homosexuality has continued to come up with increasing frequency. Meanwhile, our culture has recently shifted on the issue of same-sex marriage. In light of these circumstances, the General Synod of 2015, agreed to call a national church wide council to address the issue of human sexuality and homosexuality. The council will be composed of 74 members reflecting the diversity of the RCA, including one from each of the RCA s 44 classes. Thirty at-large members will be selected by a Wise Council of Five made up of former General Synod presidents. This council has been commissioned to meet for the express purpose of describing a constitutional pathway forward for the Reformed in America to address the questions of human sexuality as it relates to ordination and marriage, and to empower this council to bring recommendations to General Synod of 2016 (R-26 Acts of General Synod 2015). I have been selected to represent the Muskegon Classis. I would like to represent our Classis well. In order to do that, I need to hear from you. I would like to know your convictions about this important issue. Please communicate with me in either or both of two ways: 1. Please help by taking a survey. 2. Randy Bremmer Pastor Trinity Reformed, Grand Haven revrandy@charter.net Accepting God s Gift of Love Many people simply can't believe that the Lord loves them. Others believe that He loves them, but only when they are pleasing Him in some way. Why is it so hard for us to accept His unconditional love? One reason is that we have a hard time loving others without condition. We might say the words "I love you" to our spouse, children, friends, coworkers, or fellow believers but all too often are calculating in our mind whether or not they've lived up to our standard. We sometimes excuse ourselves from loving certain people because their behavior upsets or annoys us. The fact that we place restrictions on extending favor causes us to wrongly assume that the Lord does likewise. Another reason is poor self-image. Considering ourselves unworthy, we refuse to accept God's love. You know what? None of us are worthy of the heavenly Father's goodness and mercy so you can let go of that excuse once and for all. We're not coming to Him based on our worth. Rather, we're coming to Him based on His grace, and our position is secure in Christ. To put yourself down as "beneath His grace" is to trample on His loving, generous gift. God arranged an awesome divine way for us to be reconciled to Him, and His greatest desire is for relationship with each of us. If you feel unloved or struggle to accept yourself, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth of our heavenly Father's love for you and to sink it deep into your heart.
