3 PRAYER AND PRAISE Please pray for Frieda Smit who suffered a slight stroke this past week. Please pray that God s healing and strength will help her with her recovery and that she will feel His love. Please continue to pray for Matt De Wild and Marcia Neely. Thank you to everyone who came out for the Boyden Awana Walk-About! We had a good group of great people who walked around Boyden to talk about Awana. And the ice cream at the church after the walk was good too! Thank You to everyone who made coffee or brought cookies for summer coffee fellowship. It was greatly appreciated and made our job easy. This year, 99 kids in 55 households received a backpack and school supplies with your help! It was wonderful to have such a tremendous response from Sioux County. Any student who is attending Northwestern College, Dordt College, or a Christian-based Seminary College is eligible for a $400 scholarship ($200 per semester) from our Church. If you ve never received this scholarship before, you need to send a letter to the deacons requesting this scholarship. Please include in the letter where you are attending school and what your major is. If you have received this scholarship in the past, you need to just visit with one of the deacons. You are encouraged to worship with us next Sunday, Sept. 9 th to share in the message. Don t forget to decorate the boards in the basement! Add Bible verses, drawings, blessings, prayers, etc! These boards will be used in the building of the Siouxland Habitat for Humanity house in Hull. We have until mid-september so let your creativity flow out! Important Dates! We will be having a special guest, JJ Ten Clay, one of the missionaries we have been supporting, take part in our service on Sunday, September 30 th. Registration deadline (Tuesday, September 4 th) for the Bible League Retreat in Sioux Center is coming up quickly! The Retreat will be held on Tuesday, September 11 th and begins with registration at 9:30 am. Love INC s food pantry is in need of Personal Hygiene items! 5 ANNOUNCEMENTS ASK IN MY NAME: Exploring the promises of God in prayer with Josh Doorenbos, Pastor of Music and Youth at Faith Baptist Church in Washington, IA. From Josh: We re willing to try anything to develop a vital prayer life: trendy new best sellers, or mystical methods. I ve tried it all. I walked prayer labyrinths, chanted Jesus prayers, fiddled with prayer beads, but each method would go dry eventually. The answer I discovered is simple: Asking what the Bible--not catchphrases and trends--says about prayer. This one day conference starts with the command of our Lord: Ask in my name. In three morning sessions we ll explore a biblical theology of prayer, and then in the afternoon put it into practice, using only our Bibles--no tricks or complicated methods. Join us for a day of exploring the promises of God in prayer and taking that next step toward developing the vital prayer life we all so desperately need. 6 Dear Congregation, We are so blessed to have the support and prayers of all of you! Thank you to all of the leaders and individuals who are helping to make this program a success! We are still in need of some handbook leaders. As a handbook leader, you would spend the evening with 2 or 3 clubbers. There is no lesson to prepare. When they are in games and large group, you would just be with them, cheering them on and encouraging them. During Handbook time, you would meet with your clubbers to help them work on their handbook and listen to them recite their verses. Please prayerfully consider being a handbook leader. You will get to hang out with some awesome kids, accompany them on their spiritual journey, and the blessings that come back to you are too numerous for me to list here! Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:18 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as an award. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:23-24 We are also in need of someone to be a Greeter & to be in the Kitchen. We would benefit from people who serve as Floats filling in wherever there is a need on any given Wednesday. There is a sign-up sheet in the fellowship basement for providing the snack on Wednesday nights for the clubbers. Please provide enough snacks and drink for 40 clubbers. 8 Dave Anderson and Roger Walck will present a worship concert at American Reformed in Hull next Sunday, Sept 9 th, at 6:00pm. The program will include gospel songs, hymns, old Sunday School songs, some contemporary praise and worship music plus some of what Dave calls, "message songs". Dave will also tell The Rescue Story, the story of he and Barb and five others surviving a plane crash in the Bering Sea. Visit A freewill offering will be taken for the Shepherd s Canyon Retreat Center. Hope Haven will be holding its annual Trail Ride on Saturday, Sept 22 nd. This year we are at a new location, Newton Hills State Park! Registration begins at 8:30 am with the ride beginning at 10 am. Lunch will be served from 11am-2pm.
