3 Coming up at TRC SHIPSHEWANA ROAD TRIP For those of you who enjoy Shipshewana, or have never been there and would like to see what it s all about, join us for a day trip on Monday, August 5! We will leave church at 7:30 AM and return between 9-9:30 PM. Some of the places we will be stopping at are: Deutsch Kase Haus (the cheese factory), Rise-N-Roll Bakery, Davis Mercantile and downtown area, Yoder Hardware and Department Store, Yoder s Meat and Cheese, Eash Sales, and E&S Bulk foods. We will end our day by eating at Das Dutchman Essenhaus and shopping at their surrounding stores. This is NOT a day when the flea market is open, so there will be no stopping/ shopping there. There will be a $10 charge for gas per person. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall if you would like to go. See Jill Yonker or Carolyn Breimayer with any questions. BOOK CLUB Join the ladies of TRC on July 8 for a potluck and book discussion! Jill Yonker will be our hostess as we review The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. MISSION OF THE MONTH The July Mission of the Month (MOM) is Love Inc. Please remember that we are no longer taking a second offering. Instead, use your giving envelopes and indicate the amount for MOM or a specific mission. If you do not have an envelope to use for MOM, please use those provided in the pews. BEACH PARTIES The Church Life Committee will be sponsoring 2 beach parties at the Grand Haven State Park this summer. Just bring down your own supper and we will all eat together in the picnic area. If you want to bring a dessert or side dish to share, you may, but it isn t required. It s a great time to just relax, have good conversation, and enjoy God s beauty at the beach. The dates for this are Tuesday, July 9 at 6:00 p.m., and Tuesday, August 13 at 6:00 p.m. Any questions? See Cal Garbrecht. COFFEE SERVERS As you may have noticed, we ve been lacking ready help for serving coffee. Please consider signing up to serve a week or two. Never made coffee before? That s ok! We have lots of people who have vol- unteered in the past who would be glad to show you the ropes! You don t even have to bring the cookies they re already in the kitchen. CHURCH PICNIC Back by popular demand, our TRC all-church picnic at Pottawatomie Park (on Comstock in GH township) will be on Tuesday, July 23, at 6:00 p.m. This is a potluck, so please bring your own table service, drinks, and a dish to pass for every 3 people in your family/ party. Hamburgers, hotdogs, and brats will be provided. (Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of the meat and the pavilion rental) This is a great time for all ages, and a wonderful way for the newcomers at TRC to get to know everyone. Besides the food and fellowship, there will be horseshoes and other yard games, playground and water for the kids, and Brown Bag Bingo for all ages. What is Brown Bag Bingo? Well, you will have to come and find out J Friends are more than welcome. Please sign up for your meat selection on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall so that we know how much to buy. Offerings 5-26 $2, $4, $2, $3, $1, Needed for weekly budget: $3, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
4 Isaiah 56:7 For my house will be called a house of prayer. PLUCK THOSE SUCKERS! Colossians 3:2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. The best advice that ever turned my thumbs a little greener came from a friend, a gardening friend whose prize-winning tomatoes are the envy of the neighborhood. One day, my friend showed me the thick stalks of a tomato plant. Wherever the stalk forked, tiny leaves shot out from the joint. Pluck each of these away he told me. Prayer Corner I discovered a parallel to tomato suckers in my own life. Carefully, I considered how many attractive, seemingly good things use up my energy and time until I am depleted and unable to produce beautiful fruit for the Lord. I prayed for wisdom and recognize the suckers in my life so that I might pluck them away in order to flourish as God intended. Show us those things, O God, that steal away production and growth from our hearts. Amen. Those are suckers. They look healthy, but they draw sun and nourishment away from the fruit. Suckers stunt the growth of the whole plant. Get rid of them right away so that nutrients can reach the tomatoes. Sometimes the good can keep us from the best. (Barbara Hawley Pennsylvania) Jan Hendrick janhendrick@prudentialch.com Prayer Corner Coordinator Dear Trinity Family, Planning is already in progress for the upcoming Awana season. As the Awana commander, I am in need of volunteers. The commitment would be from the kickoff in the fall to right around the middle of April of next year on Wednesday nights, and also a training/info meeting in August. Currently, I am in search of a story teller, 3-5 grade teacher and helper, and 1-2 to people to do games. If you are interested, or know of anyone that is, please get a hold of me for more information. There has been a decline in the children attending Awana. The other day I started making a list of potential children I know who are not attending a Wednesday night program either at our church or any other. To my surprise I was in awe of how many children I know that are not participating in any type of spiritual formation programs other than Sunday mornings. I have challenged myself to reach out to these children and their parents and personally invite them to Awana at Trinity. I would like to ask you to please think and pray about the children in your lives and extend an invite to them and their parents to join us on Wednesday. I have been working on new and exciting programs for our middle school and high school kids. Look for more information coming in July. Finally, I am in search of Kids Hope mentors. As a mentor you spend 1 hour per week with one child during school hours. Training is provided by me. This year we were blessed with 4 beautiful children, but there are more waiting for mentors. I noticed a theme with the 3 boys we mentored last school season, they were all lacking a father in their lives. When we took them on our last event I observed all 3 of them just starving for Pastor's time. It saddens my heart knowing they lack that fatherly time playing ball with their own dads, but brought joy to my heart knowing through Kids Hope we are able to give them just a little bit of that. Please consider volunteering this year. Let's make this year amazing and fruitful together by reaching out and bringing our love of Christ to the children and families in our lives. I look forward to serving with you! In His service, Melissa Lein

I was a mentor for seven years and a director for two, and I cannot emphasize enough all that she said!! I quit directing because I am now a teacher assistant at Griffin school. So now I see all these HAPPY little kids when they are with their Kids Hope Mentors. It is just ONE hour ONE day a week and the happiness and effect that you have on these kid's lives is HUGE! I was privileged to be with the same little girl 1st-5th grade and maintained a relationship with her for a few years beyond that. When she was in 10th grade and I saw her one day she told me that she still had the cards that I sent her (while I was mentoring) and the getting-to-know-you notebooks that we made together! She had both of ours and probably kept mine to laugh at my drawings, but still...she kept them! It really is a very worthwhile program, as are all of the other programs Trinity has to offer.
