1 FRCC WEEKLY REMINDER First Reformed Church of Cary, Week of October 14, 2018 Almighty and merciful God, it is only by your gift that your faithful people offer you true and laudable service: Grant that we may run without stumbling to obtain your heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
2 Prayers of Joy Thanksgiving and hope: New Prayer Concerns: Jeff DeWitt asks for prayers for his friend Corbie Hill, his wife Rachel, and their children. Last year Corbie was diagnosed with leukemia, and this summer Rachel was found to have breast cancer. Both are being treated but while the leukemia is controllable it s incurable. Heidi asks for continued prayers for Irene, the lady with the problem with her arm. Now she s in the hospital being treated for a hemorrhage. Dave Pynaker asks for prayers for his neighbor Rick. Rick is nearing the end of his life and has not found the Lord. Please pray the he finds God before its too late. Continued Prayer Concerns Ethel Yarter s great granddaughter Carol came back from her annual checkup in Chicago and she s doing fine! Pastor Ann s brother-in-law in Lumberton had prayers answered when his home was spared from flooding. Heidi has several prayer requests. The first one is for her friend Victoria s sister has health problems and now has been diagnosed with cancer. They think it was caught in time and she is scheduled for surgery. The other requests are for people at Phoenix. Stanley is in rehab, they think he had a stroke. Liz White asks for prayers for the people at Phoenix. Bessie passed away this week and her good friend Beryline and roommate Barbara are taking it especially hard. Liz also asks for prayers for her great-granddaughter s mother Hailey. She is in the hospital with serious health problems and she, her family and her doctors need our prayers. Ethel asks for continued prayers for her brother in New York, he is not doing well. Ethel also asks for prayers for a friends son-in-law. Pastor Ann s son has good friend who s 7 year old daughter, Merit, has been diagnosed with leukemia. She s responding to the treatment but still needs our prayers. Please pray for those who will be impacted by Hurricane Michael and ask God to keep them safe. Please pray for those affected by the tsunami in Indonesia. Please continue to pray for everyone impacted by Hurricane Florence Please pray for the Christians being persecuted in the Middle East and Northern Africa.

4 Consistory News and Notes: October 2018 The October Consistory meeting was held on the 9 th (and remember, all are welcome to observe these meetings). Present: Pastor: Rev. Ann Rost Elders: Dave Pynaker Jeff DeWitt John Ferris Deacon: Ethel Yarter Clerk: Liz White Treasurer: Peter Nickel DEVOTIONS: Scripture was from Psalm 22:1-2. Pastor Ann read the devotion for the day from the Disciplines book that the Sunday School has been using. God is aware of what is going on with our church and he will lead us on the path he chooses. TREASURER S REPORT: Pete has been meeting with Ron Hamm who has graciously stepped up to handle the Assistant Treasurer duties and to head up the mission committee. New budget was approved. CORRESPONDENCE: We received a thank you note for one of the mission donations, the note has been posted on the bulletin board. WORSHIP: A student from Duke volunteered to do the November 4 and December 16 services. Liz is looking for someone for October 21 and promised to let Ann know by Friday. MISSION: October mission is the CROP Walk. November will be hurricane relief, and December will probably be the Angel Tree. We also voted to make an immediate $1,000 donation to the RCA hurricane relief effort in addition to what we collect in November. PASTORAL COMMENTS: FRCC 40 th anniversary last March. Did we celebrate? There was a cake for the occasion. Pastor Ann suggested we have a celebration on November 25 (after Thanksgiving). It can be a friends and family day. GENERAL INFORMATION: Classis Meeting is October 16 in Kingston. Pastor Ann and Ron will be going, as will Elder Jeff DeWitt. Pastor Ann will be joining Mid- Hudson Classis at this meeting. She wondered how she would be reimbursed. Pete said he would work with her on the new forms to be submitted to classis. Upcoming Events. Congregational Meeting October 28. Singing for Clair Coddington and friends tentatively scheduled for November 4. Consecration Sunday November th Anniversary Celebration November 25. Consistory Installation January 6. Business Cards for the Church. Jeff had those printed and handed them out to all. Status of Library Shelves. Jeff said he would be getting them soon. Dave suggested looking at the Re-store in Apex as they usually have a lot of shelves.
5 Preaching Schedule for Students. Liz said she had only heard from one student and she is signed up for November and December. She didn t want to sign her up for further Sundays until she gives others an opportunity to respond. OLD BUSINESS: New Deacon. John Ferris spoke with a member of the congregation about the position. The person said they would think about it. It should be noted that this position is for 2 years because it is to fill the remaining term of Mike Shafer. Elder. After prayerfully considering it, Dave said he would stay on for another term. Room Usage/Storage. Dave did remove the bell tables and the choir has condensed to two rows. Pastor Ann wondered if we could configure in a way where visitors don t feel like everyone is staring at them when they come in. In order to do that, we would have our backs to the door and from a security point of view that does not seem ideal. Unfortunately, in this day and time, we have to be very aware of safety for all. When the room was initially set up, many options were considered, but the current one seemed to be the one that would work best. Future of FRCC. Stay or Go?? The current lease will be up the end of December We should keep our eyes out for a space that would give us more visibility. Should we decide to move, it should be with the thought that this will be a permanent move. We want people to know where we are. There is a church building off Academy that Jeff will check on. Pastor Ann said she would call the agent that we had for renting the current building and let her know we MIGHT be interested in a different space. Of course, with all that, we might opt to stay where we are and perhaps reconfigure the space. NEW BUSINESS: Elders Meetings. We did not address this. IN TOUCH LIST/MEMBERSHIPS: Nothing to report NEXT MEETING: After some discussion it was decided to try an earlier meeting time. This could change should Jeff find he can t make it early. We will try meeting at 4:00 and be done by 6:00. Our next regular meeting will be November 13, 2018 at 4:00. Motion to adjourn was M/S/P Meeting was closed with prayer at 9:05. Thank you to Liz White, our Clerk, who takes the minutes this report is based on, any mistakes are mine.
