We will provide horseshoes, lawn games, water balloons, & BINGO for your after-dinner entertainment. Please sign up in the Fellowship Hall for what kind of meat your family would like so that we know how much to buy. Donations will be accepted at the picnic to cover the cost of the meat and pavilion rental. Book Club: Our next Book Club is Monday, 30 at 6pm. We will discuss, Informed Consent by Sandra Glahn. Our hostess will be Ruth vandenberg at her home. Plan to spend a fun evening at a White Caps baseball game on Friday, 27. Carpool from TRC at 5:30pm or meet us there. 3 Prayer Corner Ephesians 3:4-2 A Prayer for the Ephesians The second prayer in Ephesians may well be the most glorious prayer in the New Testament apart from the prayers of the Lord. Resuming the prayer he began in 3:, Paul addresses all three members of the Trinity in his request for inner strength. Inner strength is absolutely necessary to spiritual survival because the outer strength of humans is so fragile (Rom 7:; :9; 2 Cor. 4:3, 6; 4:3; Col. :3,4). 3:4, 5 When Jews prayed, they normally stood upright with hands raised, but Paul s bowed posture here tells us that this is no ordinary prayer; it is the prayer of someone kneeling, like Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Even now, kneeling before someone is considered a way to acknowledge that he or she is greater. Whether people kneel physically or only in their hearts, they should come to the throne of grace with a spirit of submission and humility. 3:6-9 Paul prays for at least four things; and inward power, an inward presence, an inward perception, and an inward provision. 3:7-9 Paul uses four dimensions to describe the immensity of God s love. It is wide, reminding us that His arms reach around the globe. On the cross, Jesus hands were stretched out for the whole world. It is long, reminding us that His love extends from eternity past to eternity future. It existed before the foundation of this world and will exist after this world s end. It is high, reaching to the very throne of God. Out of love Jesus came down from heaven and lifts up to His level anyone who chooses to believe, because no one can climb up to Him. It is deep, reminding us that His love addressees the deepest needs of the human heart. God loves sinners no matter who they are, what they have done, or where they have been. 3:7 Dwell means more than merely to live in a place; it means to settle down, move in, take up residence, and be at home (John 4:23). When God makes His home in the hearts of His people and the Holy Spirit fills them with His presence, they begin to understand the length, depth, width, and breadth of His love (Eph :; Rom :3, 39) 3:20, 2 This doxology, or prayer of praise, divides the first half of Ephesians which outlines the role of the church in the world from the second half, where Paul outlines how church members should live. THE LENGTH OF GOD S LOVE He gave His only Begotten Son That is the length to which God went to save us. THE DEPTH OF GOD S LOVE That whoever believes in Him. God reaches down to the very depths of mankind. THE HEIGHT OF GOD S LOVE Should not perish but have everlasting life. We will live in heaven with Him forever.
