NEWS OF THE FAMILY We extend our condolences to the family of C. David Morgan who passed away August 1, A memorial service was held at the church on August 11. Thank you to everyone who assisted with the memorial service and luncheon. Dear Calvary Friends, Thank you for your support, cards and prayers. You are a blessing. All of you who helped coordinate and participated in the Memorial Service made it an uplifting celebration of David s life and his service to God. 3 JUST FOR FUN September 3 is Labor Day a day to honor American workers and their contributions. Ever consider the occupations in the Bible? Have fun finding the ones listed below!

4 NORTHMINSTER & CALVARY JOINT RETREAT Friday & Saturday, October 5 & 6 6:00 p.m. Friday to 4:00 p.m. Saturday We are planning a joint retreat at CAMP WAKONDA in Sherrodsville, Ohio this October. Our time together will include team building activities, hikes, group games, as well as devotional and worship times. You and your family can plan to stay overnight or just come for the Saturday activities. The cost for Friday and Saturday includes Friday's dinner, lodging and Saturday's breakfast and lunch. Each individual = $ Saturday only for breakfast and lunch. Each individual = $ A 30% deposit will be required by September 5. If you are interested in attending the retreat please sign up at the Welcome Desk. This is not a commitment, but it will help us gauge interest in this event. PLEASE NOTE: There are stairs leading down to the sleeping cabins or you can walk down the gravel road. Cheryl Hawkins may have a golf cart available to help with rides to the cabins.

6 FROM THE DESK OF MICHAEL BAKER Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. -Psalm 119:105 One time, I went to work wearing two different shoes, and I didn't notice until after I was at my desk. I was sitting at my computer, working away, when I realized that my feet felt a little different. I looked under my desk and saw that I was wearing two completely different shoes. They weren't even the same color! A few brief thoughts of panic went through my head, wondering how I could escape and change shoes without being seen. After a quick review of my schedule, though, I decided that I was just going to have to laugh it off and make it through the day with two different shoes. Of course, it didn't take long for my coworkers to spot the fact that one of my shoes was brown and the other was black, earning me a few comical nicknames for the day. Luckily, "Mikey-one-shoe" didn't stick with me. I was wearing two different shoes that fateful morning because I had gotten dressed in the dark. Fall had arrived, like it will again here in September, and the days were getting shorter. Out of courtesy to my sleeping wife, who didn't have to be out of bed until later, I didn't turn on a light while I was getting ready for work. I thought I could find my way in the dark if I just went

7 slowly, concentrated, and felt my way through. My intentions were noble, but the results were poor. I literally needed a lamp to my feet. As the days get shorter and we find ourselves turning on the lamps more often, let's remember that finding our way through our days without the Word of God is like trying to find our way in the dark. We may think we can feel our way through on our own, finding our own path in the blackness, but we can't. When we feel our way around in the dark without the Word for illumination, we may think that we are doing just fine, only to discover our mistakes when the sun rises. This Autumn, let's be sure that the lights in our homes aren't the only lamps we are turning on more often. Let's light our paths with the Word of the Lord, so we don't find ourselves wrongfooted!
