The college, as a sub-poltcal dvson n the recovery program, has been and stll s, supplyng work for men of our cty. Improvements due to the whole-hearted cooperaton of CWA offcals and CWA workers have brought about a great changs n the appearance of the college, and f the work contnues for a month or so, there wll be more mprovements. The campus ground lyng north of Shatzel and Wllams Hall has been cleaned and leveled, and wll be seeded. The ground lyng south of the Practcal Arts buldng s lkewse beng made over. All the brck surfaced walls n the Admnstraton buldng, the Scence buldng and the Tranng School buldng have been washed. Other mprovements wll be made on the college grounds f the CWA s contnued. Plans nclude a dtch on the College Farm, a cement curb around the track, and some tree surgery along Wooster street. To Presdent Wllams, the Board of Trustees, and the CWA, go the thanks for the beautfcaton of our college. O» Plans for Dance Rectal Announced at W. A. A. Meet Plans for the Dance Rectal to be gven by the Women's Physcal Educaton department for the beneft of the W. A. A. were announced at the regular monthly W. A. A. meetng, Wednesday, March 7. Mary Slva brefly outlned the program whch wll consst of three parts: frst, a group of dances by the Natural Dancng class; second, a group of Chld Rhythms, and thrd, a dance drama, "The Fares' Cap." The rectal has been postponed untl Aprl 5 so that t wll not come n the Lenten season. After a short dscusson of programs of volley ball and ndvdual sports, the grls joned n performng a group of folk dances whch ncluded the Vrgna Reel. Stunts followed the dancng. Mss Hartman gave a realstc performance as the bg, bad wolf n a presentaton of "The Three Lttle Pgs", and an nstructve and nterestng representaton of the weekly assembly program ended the meetng. Enter the PEN CONTEST, now! Club Gves French Program A French program, arranged by Elose Barthold, entertaned the Foregn Language club Thursday, March 9. A song and dance "II Etat Un' Bergere", by Charlotte Planson and Mldred Lantz, who wore shepherdesses' costumes, was the frst number. Margaret Foster, Rachel Conn, and Anne Woestenburg gave a French dalogue from every-day lfe. A stage-settng representng a garden was arranged wth real flowers. The mad served real lemonade, and the floor was strew wth actual toys, ncludng a "pull-duck". The result was realstc to an astoundng degree. Professor Moseley reports that the mournng doves have returned. A few robns and a red-wnged blackbrd have been seen. There are no meadow-larks, kll deer, nor other brds that are usually seen here about March 1. Y.W.C.A.HOLDS OPEN FORUM "What s the place of the Y. W. C. A. on the College Campus?" brought about an nterestng and worthwhle dscusson n the Y. W. C. A. meetng held n Shatzel Annex. Ths thoughtful dscusson, under the gudance of Mss Fern Kaser, presdent, and Mss Leedom led to the makng of plans for the future that wll affect the entre student body. Announcements of such actvtes wll be made at a later date n the Bee Gee News. Mss Helen Woldrdge ntroduced a second queston, "What experences can a grl gan n Y. W. C. A. that wll help her face lfe?" Mss Leedom sad that when college days are over one looks back on Y. W. C. A. works as one of the most valuable experences ganed whle n College. Mss Frances Byrne gave an nterestng and amusng readng about a French love affar. Mss Orvetta Wentlng, wth Mss Dorothy Pace at the pano, conducted a short song servce. Irene Davdson read Romans 12, an approprate scrpture for the topcs under dscusson. o o Emerson Lterary Socety Dscuss "Naton Nght" 1850 Poltcs was the subject of Emerson program Wednesday, March 7. An unusual feature was the celebraton of Naton Nght, March 7, 1850, by repeatng the famous speeches made n that year. Harold Rnger mpersonated the consumptve Calhoun, who was unable to speak, and Wlfred Ingall, n the character of Senator Mason, read the speech. Elwood Ike gave Webster's great reply. Meltha Carter reported on "One Year of Roosevelt." Burton Bearss, Mary Ellen Kel, and Dors Roberts were voted nto the socety. The parlamentary practce was devoted to further study of dsposng of a bll. The temporary charman was Arthur Knapp. Y. M. C. A. MEETS Last Thursday evenng, the Y. M. C. A. men had a lesson n artfcal respraton. Dr. March explaned the correct procedure, and the men practced on each other. Durng the busness meetng, Mrln Howbert read the rules for the ntaton of new members. These rules wll be voted upon at a future meetng. Erwn Mzer presented the plan for the Athletc Carnval to be held n the near future. On account of sx-weeks tests, there wll be no meetng of the Y. M. C. A. ths week.

Formalty s a vestge of savagery. Formalty s one of the lmtng factors of culture? Formalty s a remnant of the medeval mnd. It reached ts peak n France under Lous XVI, and was gullotned wth hs successor n The Greeks attaned one of the most hghly-developed cultures of all tme, yet they were content to go about clad n smple garments, shod wth smple sandals! Catharne Bauer shows conclusvely that "Slums Aren't Necessary". Fnally we agan call attenton to that unque feature, "Amercana" found n every ssue. Henry Goddard Leach n March Forum looks at "One Year of Roosevelt" n hs Edtoral Foreword. Another survey of the same subject, but of a mote crtcal nature, s to be found n the Naton for March 7. He merely declared, and he s rght, that f a small group of ndvduals want formals, let them throw them at ther own expense! Let's all plan to be present for an enjoyable meetng and to become better acquanted. Prof. Fauley left Sunday to attend the funeral of a sster. Rev. Ingmre Proves (?) Reasonableness of Relgon Rev. S. M. Ingmre addressed the college assembly, Tuesday, March 6, attemptng to show the "reasonableness of relgon". Though t was an nterestng speech, qute shockng to the more conservatve tudents and faculty-members, the lberals cf the audence were not entrely convnced that relgon and reason are compatble. The speaker attacked the queston by declarng that a reasonable relgon can be found only by a ratonal nterpretaton of relgous problems as found n the Bble. All Chrstan relgon depends on the Bble, whch must be proved reasonable, because the only access to Man's conscousness s through hs bran. He then cted several controversal passages n the Holy Book, attemptng to explan them logcally. Rev. Ingmre admtted that the story of creaton n Geness s not consstent wth modern scentfc knowledge, but declared that t serves a greater purpose n recountng the brth of moralty, the begnnng of moral choce. He then examned several of the "mracles" and Parables, n the lght of the fact that one must know somethng of the customs and background of the tmes to nterpret them correctly. All of whch dd not advance the speech much toward ts goal. The speaker stated that Luther made the mstake of tyng hmself too closely to the Book, a book whch t s dangerous to put n the hands of the unlettered man. He closed wth a rather debatable remark as to the "hgh ethcal contents" of the Bble! Specal musc by a group of lades.

Last week we had Thrd Degree, and now we have some new members. Evelyn Emerne, from the hustly-bustly cty of Toledo fnds Bowlng Green equally strenuous, so much so that she and her room-mate have sworn a compact to wat untl a frm carpet of soft, cob-webby dust patterns ther floor before cleanng agan. "If you don't beleve us wat 'tl June when we plan to ceremonously exhbt the carpet n the vestbule of Wllams Hall." Shatzel Hall News Shatzel Hall was quet ths week. Nothng much happened. There was room nspecton. All rooms were cleaned and floors polshed. There are some new romances at Shatzel such as Cleo and Wayne, and old ones such, as Clark and Shrley, Georga and Bll. Sunday evenng two grls were makng an awful lots of nose n the hall. All on account of a rubber mouse. Anne Onne <*^ <$>- FRATERNITIES COMMONERS PLEDGE 12 NEW MEMBERS The Commoners Fraternty gave the oath to twelve pledges last evenng. Those, recevng the oath were: Ralph Asmus, Henry Goranson, Dale Gllette, Roy Greek, Loyal Grytng, Elwood Ike, J. W. Jordan, Frank Kunkle, Malcolm Psel, John Petteys, Lawrence Rngenberg, and Phl Zaugg. These fellows should become real "Key" men ths sprng and help Thompson wth hs edtoral dutes. Ther combned capacty s 120 pars of shoes an hour, whch should keep the brothers n good standng f that "well groomed look" means anythng. Plans have been made for the Commoners formal whch s to be held Saturday evenng, March 17th; many alumn members plan to attend. Last week, Professor Moseley demonstrated for hs botany classes the effects of changng the amount of ar pressure on a column of water. Usng doorbell apparatus, he showed how a partal vacuum affects sound. There were experments demonstratng the prncples of osmoss and capllarty. Our next ndoor sports s volley ball; the followng teams recorded ther players: Lndsey House Rch's Cafetera Fve Brothers We would lke to see more of the ntramural teams represented. We have notced that our appeal to the men to learn about the new athletc fraternty has brought some results. Let us see more of the male students take an nterest. The followng men have sgned up for Varsty Tenns: Psel, Butler, O. Calln, Beek, Fsher, and Foster. The track men are sure dong ther part to make ths track season a successful one. The men are nterested and take ther tranng serously. Perhaps t s a lttle early for baseball, for some people. But t sn't the case wth the B. G. players.
