Brother David G. Boring, 33, Active for Michigan Schedule of EveNts Candidate Registration: 8:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. 4 Master Traveler. Here is the introduction to Scottish Rite Masonry. This degree provides us with a preview of the moral truths we shall witness on our journey through the Scottish Rite. 9:30 a.m. 7 Provost and Judge. This degree teaches us to judge righteously, without respect to person, and that one law and one custom shall apply to all. Let justice be impartial, tempered with deserved mercy. 11:00 a.m. 11 Sublime Master Elected. This degree dwells on good citizenship. Evil doings should be punished. Honesty and respect for others should be rewarded. Be earnest, honest and sincere. 11:30 a.m. Lunch - Reservations Required 1:00 p.m. 14 Grand Elect Mason. In the Scottish Rite, this degree is the summit of Ancient Craft Masonry. As the crowning degree of the Lodge of Perfection, its essence is the holiness of God and reverence for His Holy Name. God will not hold him guiltless that taketh His Name in vain. 2:30 p.m. 32 Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret. This degree describes the victory of the spiritual over the human in man and the conquest of appetites and passions by moral sense and reason. The exemplar represents every Freemason eager to serve humanity but caught between self-interest and the call of duty. Duty often requires sacrifice, sometimes the supreme sacrifice. 6 A M E S S A G E F R O M Valley of Grand Rapids Why Freemasonry and the Scottish Rite My Brothers, in addition to providing haven and support for our Brothers, Freemasonry has an important social mission. Make no mistake Scottish Rite Freemasonry is a school of instruction and support for the moral development of men and creates a band of dedicated and committed Freemasons who know one another across cities, states and nations. We have a social mission. Historically, Freemasonry has concerned itself with the moral and professional development of men. To make better men, husbands, fathers, co-workers, and, leaders in our communities. The Scottish Rite is designed to bring men across our communities together in a mission to promote the best Freemasonry has to offer. If there is anything I have seen fall in my lifetime, in almost 65 years, has been the fall of moral character and virtue in our society. I place that cause or blame solely on the fall of fraternalism, development or moral principles and expectations in our society. Ask yourself, where are our leaders in our homes, workplaces, communities and our nation. As Freemasonry and fraternalism have fallen since the 1950 s. so has our respect for men of character and virtue. Our trust and respect for institutions in our homes, workplaces and government have likewise fallen. Ask yourself this do you believe our trust in the law, government, business or the church is more than we had had years ago? I doubt it. As men of character have been driven from these institutions, so has our respect and trust in our leaders and institutions have fallen. The reason men of conviction, not perfect men because no man is perfect, but men seeking and working to make themselves, their families, workplaces and communities better have been driven or abandoned the places or positions of respect they once held. It is time for us to draw a line and to take back what is just and proper in society and what our Masonic forebears strived for to seek a better and more virtuous world. I see the rise of Freemasonry, particularly Scottish Rite Freemasonry to instill a respect for God, Patriotism, the Natural Rights of Freemen in a Free Society Freedom of Expression and Opinion, Respect and Toleration for the Honest Differences of Opinion of others, The Right of Association and Freedom of Religion, and Respect for men and women of every race and creed. My Scottish Rite Brothers.our time is now. Take up the challenge. The Scottish Rite provides that path for us. Ill Bro. Mark A. Manning 33 Most Wise Master, Robinson Chapter of Rose Croix, Valley of Grand Rapids AASR Valley of Marquette The 7th Annual Kayak/Canoe Trip & BBQ SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2018 We ll be camping Friday and Saturday in the Autrain area.
