I for one sure am. I hope this is the end of it. If we do get more, I don't know where I'm going to put it. Everywhere I go all the people are talking about the weather. It is the topic as we try to push toward the spring with high hopes of an early warm summer. It reminds me of the church and how everyone is talking about it also. We have to continue to trust in Jesus and hold true to our faith. Yes, we do have to weed the garden to reap the rewards of the fruit so precious to our survival. The way I see it, Jesus is beginning to weed his garden and getting ready for the rewards. We have to push harder stand tougher and be proud of what we believe in and continue to follow the straight path that leads us to ripen and be chosen. Vivat Jesus. Christopher Grimard, Grand Knight The next general meeting is Thursday, March 7th in the lower Parish hall, starting at 7:00 pm Coffee Sunday: The 1 st Sunday of the month Saturday the 2 nd and Sunday the 3 rd, stay awhile and enjoy a coffee or tea and treats after mass. Take some time to get to know the other parishioners who sit beside you in the pews. The refreshments are supplied courtesy of the Holy Redeemer Knights of Columbus.

3 Chaplain s Corner Brother Knights, During the "good of the order" we are asked to pray for those who are ill. Suffering seems to be that unavoidable condition of human life. The following is a portion of a document authored by the Catholic Organization for Life and Family: The Church does not see suffering as a good in and of itself and we all have a duty to do everything in our power to eradicate or at least alleviate it. We need to discover how to be compassionate, how to enter into and share the suffering of others. There is no doubt that suffering challenges the very core of human life. Sometimes, in the face of overwhelming suffering, we must humbly acknowledge the limits of our capacity and the human condition this is not easy to do in our technologically driven society where we are accustomed to getting what we want when we want it. The Church recognizes that suffering can have great meaning and redemptive power in the lives of those who are suffering and those around them. When suffering has meaning it can help to make it bearable. Christians believe that Christ brought human beings back to God through his Passion, Death and Resurrection; each person is invited to freely accept this reconciliation. Christians also believe that those who unite their sufferings to Christ's with love participate in this work. Their feelings of anger and discouragement are replaced by quiet hope, and even joy. Suffering is no longer pointless. They find in God, especially by receiving the Body of Christ, the courage and strength to live fully all the days of their lives in anticipation of the eternal life for which God created us all in His love. "The enigma of pain and death, which outside the Gospel crushes us, is illuminated through Christ and in Christ." Pope John Paul II A Memo from your K of C Insurance Agent Only having through work insurance doesn t work Do you know anyone whose life has been drastically changed by recession and economic downturn? When there is high unemployment, it s very likely that someone in your immediate or extended family or group of friends will face financial uncertain. With this uncertainty, there is a real possibility that you (or your spouse) could lose your job or change employers. Too many people have often relied on group term life insurance as their only safety net. Often, this insurance is an employee benefit provided at low or no cost. The existence of this coverage might convince someone that a personally owned life insurance policy is not necessary. Only having through work insurance doesn t work. This way of thinking should be a thing of the past for many reasons. Most forms of group life insurance are limited in amount, which may be tied to salary or some other benchmark. These numbers are often capped, and this cap may be dangerously low for your family s actual needs. In fact, without a detailed needs analysis, any employer-provided coverage may be completely unrelated to needs at death. In addition, the amount of group insurance offered is almost always reduced, sometimes dramatically, when you retire. With the possibility of these changes on the horizon, you could one day find yourself without coverage, and if your health has changed (which it has and will as you age), you might also find yourself unable to secure individual protection. While group life insurance can help, it does not replace the need for individually owned life insurance. District Deputy s News Flash Dear Brothers, The Easter season is almost here with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday on March 6 th. Its time to reflect on our religion and Christ our Lord.

The speakers will be Father Vince Fiore and Father Marian Struc. The cost will be $10.00 to cover lunch, chicken and spaghetti salad and desert. Beginning at 9:30 am and over by 2pm.

4 District Deputy s News Flash Dear Brothers, The Easter season is almost here with Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday on March 6 th. Its time to reflect on our religion and Christ our Lord. Lent helps us to prepare the way with acts of charity. If done truly from the heart it will be rewarded. Tuesday March 19 th, there will be a day of reflection at St. Michael's Church in Coniston. The speakers will be Father Vince Fiore and Father Marian Struc. The cost will be $10.00 to cover lunch, chicken and spaghetti salad and desert. Beginning at 9:30 am and over by 2pm. Faith in Action and Council Responsibilities on Saturday March 23 rd at the K of C hall in Hanmer on Emily St, hosted by council 5005, please try to attend. This is a good opportunity for those wishing to learn more about the knights. As the year ends and new council executives are elected, please consider running for a position. There will be an Admissions degree at 7pm Monday April 29 th, a Formation degree at 10 am on Saturday May 11 th and a Knighthood degree at 10am on Saturday June 1 st. These are the dates available to me, all candidates please be there early to register. All degrees will be held at St. Andrews the Apostle Church on Barrydowne Road. Vivat Jesus, Dennis Tomini District Deputy Ontario District 13 Greater Sudbury Deputy Grand Knight s Message Brother Knights, We were in Kingston visiting our daughter for the last 3 weeks. We enjoy going to St Paul the Apostle Church and observing the many activities conducted by the parish and the K of C council. They had a whole week of activities focused on the family: skating, movies, puzzles, dinner etc. In many ways they are much like Holy Redeemer; we can learn from their example. We planned to drive back to Sudbury after church on Sunday. That morning I had a dream of driving in a heavy snowstorm, heavy drifts and ruts across the road, I couldn t see you know, your typical worst nightmare. In the middle of this frightening experience my cell phone rang. My son woke me up to tell me there was heavy freezing rain in Sudbury. Yuck! Well, I believe strongly in messages from our Lord and we decided to postpone the travel. On Monday morning as I was looking at the weather map on TV, I asked the Lord for His help. It became clear that we should travel north via Ottawa. It was windy but the roads were clear and dry for the whole trip Thanks be to God! I have been reading and rereading Psalm 23 lately, in a booklet that explains each of the verses. I find it very comforting to know: (NKJV) The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want I will fear no evil; for you are with me. I strongly believe the Lord is watching over us yesterday we were driving on a two lane road with a double line. As we came around a corner I saw a car passing in my lane a short distance ahead, but by my slowing down and moving over on the shoulder the car missed us. Council Notes Brothers, Holy Redeemer Council now has 136 total members of record on our roster. This includes 19 Honorary Life, 5 Honorary, and 6 Inactive members.

If you can think of someone who may be a potential candidate, ask them, they may say yes.

Please contact the Grand Knight or the Financial Secretary. Don Larocque volunteered to take over the Bingo Team scheduling. Please give Don you support in this important role.

With the addition of other groups wanting to raise money and the unlikely event that we get extra sessions, this is a drop of 8 sessions over last year.

Our volunteer pool dwindling and stagnant. Please consider giving 2½ hours of your time when you can. It s not hard and its fun. Come and see me.

Achieving Star Council appears to be out of reach this year, but it should not stop us from recruiting new members! In the February 18 th weekend, a 3 rd notice mailing went out to 17 members who have not paid and picked up their 2019 membership cards. If you have not, please do so ASAP. Please contact the Grand Knight or the Financial Secretary. Don Larocque volunteered to take over the Bingo Team scheduling. Please give Don you support in this important role. There are no bingo slots in the month of March. For the fiscal year we have been given 46 assignments at the bingo. With the addition of other groups wanting to raise money and the unlikely event that we get extra sessions, this is a drop of 8 sessions over last year. The majority of our time is still 12:30 on Saturday afternoon, with a few 10:30 pm times. There will also be a gap of 3 months during the year with no assignments. Vivat Jesus, Eric Moles Faithful Navigator Assembly #0876 K of C 2019 Ontario Charities Raffle AKA Car Raffle Thanks to all the brother Knights who helped selling tickets at the New Sudbury Shopping Center. You have managed to sell half of our allotted tickets during the week even though bad weather was against us. The following week of sales will be from March 11 th to 17 th. Please be prepared to give your name one more time to sell the remaining tickets. Call Don Larocque at or Santo at Don will have an available schedule for you at the March 7 th meeting. Your help is greatly appreciated! Council Officers and Faith in Action Council executive nominations in April will soon be here. No need to fear. Are you interested in any of the Council executive positions? Maybe you are and you just want to hear what the roles are all about? They are not hard, and could be fun. On Saturday March the 23 rd there will be an information session held at K of C Council 5005 Hall in Hanmer at starting at 9 am. Kingsway Entertainment District At our March 7 th meeting, we will host a guest speaker. Brother Dario Zulich will attend our meeting and give 15 minute presentation to update and give us a glimpse on the progress of the Kingsway Entertainment district. Come to the meeting and get the latest news. Friday Lenten Stations of the Cross On Friday March 22 nd after the 4:15 mass, the Knights are booked to lead prayer at the Stations of the Cross on this day. The Grand Knight is looking for volunteers to lead prayers at the stations after the mass. Let us have a good attendance from the Knights at this Mass and at all the Friday mass s during Lent Breakfast Chairman On March 5 th, volunteers will be called upon to help with the Shrove Tuesday festivities, at Pius XII school and then at the parish hall. Also thanks to all who helped at our last Parish Breakfast on Feb. 10 th. Many hands make for light work and enjoyed by all. Come out and enjoy a few pancakes on Shrove Tuesday on March 5 th at 5pm in the parish hall.
