3 FROM THE CLUB MANAGER Report for the month of July,2018 Total Sales $25, Cost Of Liquor: $10, Cost of Doing Business: $ 8, (Payroll,Taxes,Entertainment,Janitorial Etc.) NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 7, Transferred to General Fund $ 7, Welcome to September Please join us and the American Patriot Memorial Foundation for an event to commemorate the 9-11 tragedy. It will be held at the recently constructed beacon building in front of the Mike Pierce Insurance/Bobby Joe s Carpet buildings. Please peruse the flyer that is included in this publication. It will be held 9/09/18 from 2:00 until 3:30 pm. September also marks Labor Day on Monday the 3 rd. Please join us for a potluck and some good old relaxation starting at noon. This month also marks the return of our monthly General Membership meetings on the 2 nd Tuesday of the month at 7:OO pm. Please try to make one of these meetings that inform our members about the inner workings of your Post! Feel free to bring any new ideas, comments or criticisms with you to this meeting. As many of you already know, our newly renovated Annex building was ran into by a car and that building is condemned until all of the red tape can be sorted out with insurance companies, structural engineers, and contractors. Thankfully, the building can be repaired and the process is in the works. Prior to the crash into the building, that same car hit and totaled a Ford F150 that belonged to our own member and frequent volunteer Ed (Grizz) Seright. The only silver lining to that whole debacle was that not one person miraculously got hurt. Stay tuned for further updates on the progress of that reconstruction. As we begin to head into the cooler months of the year and the return of our winter visitors, let s all remember to keep all of our active duty troops in our thoughts and prayers for a safe return to their friends and family. Many thanks to all of our members who have renewed their 2019 dues early! There is still plenty of time to get an early bird stamp with your renewed membership! Commander s Message I am sure that most know, but the damage to annex building is extensive. We are in the process of the insurance companies, adjusters, and general contractors doing their thing. We hope to have a way forward soon. I can t say enough to thank Kevin, Butch, and Fred they have stepped up immensely. I have accepted Wil Taylor s resignation as Post 36 Service Officer, I will not go into details as to those reasons and let him explain as needed. Wil did say that he would continue to field phone calls as needed until someone is appointed. Patrick Gipson has stepped back into the fold and will assist as needed. If you are interested, please let me know. This time next month, I will have some new knowledge, a few stories, and an added appreciation coming back from my first American Legion National Convention. I can t wait to share the experiences of running the Department of Arizona hospitality suite. Should be a great time. Shelley Merritt, Joe Roberts and myself I know are going. If I missed someone that is- please stop and see us at the suite. A big shout out to everyone that steps up behind the scenes. I know I don t say it enough, THANK YOU. You make the Post run smoothly. A report from our Finance Officer: Income Expenses Profit/(Loss) May $23, $26, $( 3,295.87) June $22, $22, $( ) July $29, $30, $( ) Greetings all, Profit/Loss varies due to dates of deposits, purchases.etc. Unit 36, Ladies Auxiliary I hope everyone was able to survive the crazy summer weather and are preparing for a fun filled fall season. I would like to welcome all new and returning ladies to our first meeting of the new year. Sept. 4th at 6pm. We would love to have new faces and welcome new and fun ideas for our fundraisers. Just a few reminders: We have our 2nd annual Poker Run for the Paws in Service on October 6th. The kids Halloween party on the 28th. Information and sign up sheets are for all events. Stuffed burgers will continue to be the first Thursday of every month, come on down and enjoy. Rummage Sale update: we will be holding the sale once the annex is fixed, possibly in December. Shelley Merritt Unit 36 President American Legion Riders Summer is almost over, and along with it the monsoon rains. It has been a busy summer for the Riders, and looking at the calendar, the month ahead is no different. This is the time of year that the Runs we support really start up. I would like us to do a lot more riding this season, not just the charity runs, but fun runs. I have enlisted the help of our Ride Captain, Erik Godzilla Bezila and his Ride Lieutenants for assistance in this endeavor. Even though we ride in, and to, these events, all Post entity members are encouraged to join us. It could be a simple ride to Mt, Lemmon or just a lunch run for cheap tacos, but a great time is usually had by all. As a reminder, the Riders will be supporting the Auxiliary s 2 nd Annual Paws in Service poker run on Saturday, October 6 th. It would be nice to see many of our members show up to support this great cause, motorcycle not required. You can participate in the poker run with your vehicle, or just show up for lunch and activities after the run. There will be drink specials, raffles, and a 50/50 drawing. The Riders will also be assisting in the celebration to Commemorate Patriot s Day on Sunday, September 9 th from 14:00 to 15:30 at the American Patriot Memorial Beacon located beside the Post. If you have not had a chance to check it out, I highly recommend walking over and looking at it. Commander Hello again to my Legion Family. With the summer slowdown, this month s article is a bit shorter than usual. A quick reminder to everyone who has not already done so, please pay your dues as soon as you can. We have goals set by the state and national organizations. The key to achieving those goals is retention. Your timely renewal means we can spend more time focusing on recruiting new members. While I understand the summer heat makes you want to stay home, remember that also means you have to cook dinner. Instead, come to the post for Burger Night! We will do all the work, so you can relax in our cool lounge and enjoy a beverage or two. Every Monday except the first Monday Wolfman is cooking your burger over an open flame. Great food at a great price. We continue to sell tickets for the Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle. First prize is a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee, second prize is 2 first class, round trip airplane tickets to anywhere in the world. Third prize is a cool $5,000 cash. Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. They are available from any Squadron 36 officer. Don t miss out on your chance to win one of these spectacular prizes! Bad news about upcoming Texas Hold Em tourneys. Due to a vehicle causing severe damage to the annex, we are unable to host tournaments in the near future. The damage was significant enough that it has been deemed unsafe to occupy. As soon as repairs are completed, we will start looking at possible dates and I will keep you informed of our progress. And this month, I will again close with a reminder about our biggest fundraiser of the year but this time with an added note. Do you own a business or work for a company that could benefit from inexpensive advertising? On October 14, 2018 at the Canoa Ranch Golf Resort, we will be having our annual Commander s Golf Tournament. We have hole sponsorships available that would put your name out there to our Legion Family members. Our Squadron and the S.A.L. Golf Committee set a lofty goal of raising $10,000 at this year s event and anyone can help. If you play, sign up. If you would like a hole sponsorship, we can do that for you too. Information is on our bulletin board. The hotel is wonderful and there are still rooms available. Join us and you ll have a great time. Please come out and support us so we can continue to help support Post 36, our veterans, and their families. And remember that Jim Click Raffle of a Jeep Grand Cherokee?
