1 Hixson Presbyterian Church Ridge Views Vol 46 Issue 11 November 2017 Welcome to the 37th Annual Global Missions Conference To our Church Family and Friends, Our theme for this time is The Riches of God s Grace Grasping God s Grace Personally to Give God s Grace Globally (Ephesians 1:7, In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God s grace ). God s grace is rich, abundant, extravagant. Friends, as we grasp God s grace personally in our own lives, the treasure of our salvation, we are all missionaries to give God s grace, His gospel, globally. Those on the home and foreign fields have a special need for our prayers and financial support and we have the opportunity to give them grace for God. We on the Global Outreach Missions Committee want for us at Hixson Presbyterian Church to have a missional fervor in our hearts to global and local missions, by prayerfully connecting us to the Lord s bountiful work across the world. 2 Heart Preparation: Grant us in accordance with the riches of His perfect character to be strengthened mightily by His Spirit in our inmost being. Eph. 3:16, I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being So we ask You for a heart of repentance, faith, obedience, and being strong in Christ. Since You, God. delight in the spread of your glory and You work through your children may we delight in You and being sharers of Your grace. All mission work is God s own work. We should take the new covenant promises of God and pleading with God to bring them to pass in our children, neighbors and all the mission fields of the world. John Piper Why? 3 The Good Samaritan Report for Sept To HPC members and friends, In September, several needs were met in our own Church family, in the community and across our Country. We assisted several members of HPC with emergency medical bills totaling $ In the community, we were able to assist a local family with a grocery bill of $ As reported last month, we participated financially in Hurricane Harvey relief. Though some receipts are still out, we anticipate our contribution to total around $ Primetimer s News On Tuesday, November 14th, the Primetimers are sponsoring a trip to the Cumberland County Playhouse. We will meet at the church at 10:00am, then drive (caravan stlye) about one hour to the Cumberland Mountain State Park for a delicious buffet lunch. From there we will drive over to the Playhouse to see a Christmas Comedy, Inspecting Carol at 1:00pm (CST). Meanwhile, donations to the Good Samaritan Fund added $ It is gratifying to know that Hixson Presbyterian Church is making a difference both locally and regionally in the name of our Lord. If you know of true need in our family or community, please contact one of our Pastors or a Deacon. We may be able to assist. 4 Trail Life Tracking the Trailmen of Trail Life Troop TN-1967 For their October Hit the Trail event, the Trailmen of TN-1967 hiked to the Stone Door at Savage Gulf. They were treated to an up-close experience with a young deer crossing their trail. The older boys descended into the gorge. The Savage Gulf and Stone Door areas of South Cumberland State Park offer miles of hiking trails to beautiful vistas and majestic waterfalls This month s Hit the Trail event includes Outdoor Skills Learning on Nov. 18 for the Woodlands (K- 5), and camping at Cloudland Canyon on Friday and Saturday nights, Nov , for the Navigators (middle school). Beginning in November, our monthly meetings will be held inside the church in Room M-2, 6-7:30 pm, the first three Tuesdays of each month.
5 Youth The HPC Youth High School and Middle School Giving Couples a Night Off with Parents Night Out Parents Night Out is coming up on Friday, November 17th. If you ve got kids ages infant through 5th grade, why not bring them to PNO for a fun evening and give yourself a date night or shopping night? What can your children expect at Parents Night Out? Games, activities, crafts and all sorts of fun ways for kids to spend the evening A pizza dinner A family friendly movie (different movies for preschool age and elementary age) Worry-free childcare provided by lots of caring adults By bringing your kids to Parents Night Out, you ll help send our youth on their 2018 mission trips with your generous donations! Our high school youth will be headed to Jamaica, June 16th 23rd, Our middle school youth will be going to work with Radius Camps in July. Last year we sent 19 students on mission trips, and this year we d love to see at least 20 attend. 4 hours of babysitting AND helping to send youth on their mission trips? I say that s a win-win situation. Be sure to sign up at the table in the foyer or on our website! And by the way, we also need plenty of youth and adults to come volunteer as childcare workers to make this fundraiser happen. Youth who want to attend a 2018 Mission Trip should plan to be there, as should their parents! The Uberfreezin 9 Final Deadline is November 12th! In January, we ll be taking a group of Middle and High School students to Winterplace, WV for Uberfreezin 9, our annual Ski Retreat. All Middle and High School students are welcome to attend, but you need to reserve your spot by Sunday, November 12th! Since the Early Bird deadline has passed, the price is now $275 for skiers and $300 for boarders. However, all that is due on the 12th is a $50 deposit. You can send a deposit into HPC, but just make sure to make a note that it is a deposit for Uberfreezin. You can also hand a payment to Morgan at the church. Or you can pay online! Either way, everyone should go online to fill out the Uber registration form: hixsonpres.ccbchurch.com/goto/ forms/47/responses/new A Great Night with Students at the High School Bonfire On October 6th, we gathered around a big bonfire down near the HPC Pavilion with 20 high school students! The whole point of this event was fellowship. We wanted to provide a casual, fun atmosphere for our students to enjoy being together, and to meet new people. It was great to spend time with students, and great to see some new faces as we had 5 visitors!
6 Little Seekers Day School It is such a blessing for our families to connect with members of HPC and enjoy our special events together! Recently, we had a Fall Festival! Both our staff and volunteers stated that it was an enjoyable time for everyone! If the Lord leans on your heart to join our great volunteer group simply let us know and share the day with these kids. Their hearts and minds are being shaped by the word of God with our ABC Jesus Loves me Curriculum! The Lord is quiet and speaks softly as the children are learning and growing. If you volunteer with us, you will be amazed working along side our qualified teachers who spend time with them each week. This is great opportunity to serve the Lord and our day school families. As we approach our 50th Anniversary, we are looking not only to the past but also present and future! To acknowledge that every person, even our littlest children, are a piece of our church history, we are creating a commemorative artwork. Since we have talked with the kids about how they are a part of this celebration because they are an important piece of history and part of our church, we are decorating our own puzzle pieces! They have been doing a great job with it so be on the lookout at the anniversary banquet for the final product. Leading up to the event we will teach the kids about why our history, as well as the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, is important to remember! It s important to look back at God s faithfulness, as well as look to the future and get excited about how God will use this church body! Christmas Program Be sure to come see our Hixson Pres Kids as they present the story and real meaning of Christmas! They will be doing a program called Power of the King and will be walking us through the story of the birth of Christ so long ago. Come join us in this time of worship and fellowship on December 3rd at 6pm. If you have a child (ages 4 and up) that are interested in being in the program, contact Alisa Gillis.
7 Facility Use Policy HPC has developed a new Facilities Use Policy. The new policy includes some changes from the way things have been done in the past. You can read the whole policy by going to our website and clicking on the About button and then choosing Building Use. There you will find both the policy and a building use request form. One change that you need to be aware of is that parties (Birthday, Anniversary, etc.) and showers (Wedding, Baby, etc.) are not considered church hosted events. While members are welcome to use church facilities to host such events, the church will no longer advertise them. These kinds of events will need to be by invitation sent out by the friends and family hosting the event. While this is a change to our long-standing practice of advertising things in the bulletin or in the foyer, we hope that we can all adjust smoothly to reaching out and inviting friends and family personally as we celebrate these kinds of events in the life of the church. The main reason this change has been made is to avoid the appearance that these kinds of events are being hosted by the church. Since showers and parties are not given for everyone, it can look like the church is showing favoritism and leaving others out if advertising goes in official church publications. We simply want to make it clear that these events are hosted by friends and family. We know that it will be inconvenient to send out individual invitations, but we believe that this is the best way to avoid confusion and hurt feelings.
