3 FROM THE CLUB MANAGER Report for the Month of October,2018 Total Sales $25, Cost Of Liquor: $11, Cost of Doing Business: $10, (Payroll,Taxes,Entertainment,Janitorial Etc.) NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 4, Transferred to General Fund $ 4, December is here and the Holiday season is upon us! Please be safe with all of your holiday travels and shopping! Our Legion Christmas party will be held on Friday the 14 th. We will be offering a chicken or roast beef dinner for that night, so make sure to call for reservations. We will start taking reservations for that night on Monday the 10 th. The infamous 60 s Garage Band will be providing the entertainment for that evening, so reservations are a must! Speaking of reservations, make sure to get yours for the annual New Year s Eve party. Tickets are on sale at the bar for $35.00 each. The limit of tickets to be sold is 130. Tickets are going fast, so get here soon before it sells out. Our annual Kid s Christmas party is Sunday the 16 th from noon til 3. A good time is promised again this year with lots of gifts for the young ones, and of course, Santa has promised to make a showing! The annual State of Arizona Fall Conference was a success again this year with a lot of members from around the state visiting our Post and enjoying our meals and entertainment! Lots of nice compliments from those members as well. It sure is nice to hear positive feedback once in a while! Huge thanks go out to Fred Worthington, AL Young, Billie Thompkins and Gary Schlorf for donating their time to drive the van transporting members from the hotel to the Post! Thank you kind Gentlemen! Another special thanks go out to Al Goins, Fred Worthington and Max Midlam for donating their time and materials to paint and spiffy up the wall behind the main bar! It looks great guys. As we head into the holiday season, let us keep in our prayers our active duty men and women who don t get to be home with their families for this special season because they are protecting us so that we can enjoy that freedom. Please welcome Cathy Worthington who has agreed to help us out in the office as our new secretary! Thanks Cathy! I hope that you all have a warm and safe Holiday season! -Kevin J. Smith Commander s Message As the Holiday season sets in upon us, this is a perfect time to remember what we exist for, serving our veterans. This month's Commanders dinner is Mexican lasagna, a dinner roll and side salad, all for a low price of 7 dollars. The fall Conference was once again a success. Thank you to all who volunteered in one fashion or another. It does not go unnoticed. The van drivers, stood out that is for sure. I hope that I did not miss anyone, there were 4 drivers that filled the void, for the entire time. Kudos goes out to Fred Worthington, Gary Schlorf, Al Young, and BJ Thompkins. Thank you so much, I appreciate you guys. Upcoming things that are on the Post calendar is the Department Commanders visit and dinner. Let's make a great showing for our local Commander. A report from our Finance Officer: Income Expenses Profit/(Loss) Aug $25, $27, $( 2,049.14) Sep $18, $22, $( 3,730.95) Oct $26, $30, $( 4,016.10) Profit/Loss varies due to dates of deposits, purchases.etc. Unit 36, Ladies Auxiliary Greetings Post 36 family, I just wanted to thank everyone again for your generous donations for our annual Kid s Halloween Party. Thank you ladies for all the hard work you did manning the tables with kids the entire party, keeping the kids engaged and the candy flowing. The kids had a great time and another great party for our history book. With that being said special thanks to our DJ and his lovely bride, Ruben and Monica Hernandez, (also members of our post) that do such a great job with the kids music and dress up in the coolest costumes and just keep the kids having fun. Thank you guys so much! November was another awesome month, busy as well. Fall Conference came and went as well as Thanksgiving and soon it will be Christmas.(Whoah!) Thank you to everyone who came out to help Debbie and the kitchen crew serve up another wonderful Thanksgiving meal. You all do such an amazing job through the holidays and all year round. I hope everyone has been able to spend time with loved ones as these times speed by us so quickly and take time to breathe in the process. Family is what it is all about. Speaking of family, we are going to need help with our extended family out at the VA for their annual gift shop and holiday decorating. Gift shop days and hours will be DEC. 2-7 from 9am to 5pm with the ribbon cutting on the 3rd. More information will be on the AUX. board for those who would like to take part in this event. It is always a good time and our veterans sure do enjoy the shopping and wrapping and gift giving for their families. May you have a wonderful holiday season with those that mean the most to you. Shelley Merritt Unit 36 President American Legion Riders Welcome to the big Holiday Season. Hard to believe it is here already. This year has seemed to just fly by. I want to take this opportunity to send out a congratulations to Shelley Merritt, Auxiliary President, and Steve Sperl, Post Commander, on their nuptials. It has definitely been a long time coming. We also want to remember, and thank those who will not be joining their families this Holiday Season. Whether it be members of the military who are deployed keeping us and others safe, or the first responders that will be on duty over the Holiday. Many of us have been there before, and know the feelings associated with being away for the holidays. So, let s keep them all in our thoughts and prayers. The Riders want to wish all our members a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It has been a great year, and cheers to next year being even better for all of us. Stroud POST EVERLASTING Clyde Meade Hello Legion Family members. It s hard to believe that Christmas and New Year is almost upon us. This first half of the administrative year has absolutely flown by. I believe it has gone so fast because of the immense support our Legion Family has shown for each other. All of us Legion, Auxiliary, Sons, and Riders have events that happen throughout the year. And every time, the other entities step up and support in any way we can. It s truly heartwarming. By the time this is published, all of our tickets have been turned in for the Jim Click raffle that we have again been a part of. I wish all who purchased tickets to support us, the best of luck when the drawing is held. I thank all of you for your support of our programs. Monday night burgers continues. Recently, we have seen a bit of a slow down. I hope this is a temporary situation and more of you stop in to taste our delicious burgers, made to order over an open fire. Our volunteers put in a lot of time and effort to make this an enjoyable experience. If you haven t been by to see us recently, I think you should. You ll be happy you did. Our next Texas Hold em tourney is still in the planning stages, as of right now. Check at the Post for a date and time that may have been determined after this article was written. We are hoping for December, but we don t yet have a solid date. On the bright side, with the Annex now up and running again, we have a venue. As I mentioned in the beginning of this article, I want to wish every member of the Legion Family that is a part of John P. Burns, Post 36 a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever joyous holiday you celebrate. But use the time to spend with family and loved ones. And don t forget to say a prayer for or help out a veteran this season. They are among the most deserving people we have.
