Aggie Jean and our Assistant Chaplain, Rev. Robert Smolley, due to your vigilant undertaking of caring for the Seminarians and Postulants, which is so very much appreciated. Once again, we are asking you to please make a generous contribution so that our tradition can be carried on. Libasci and Catholics throughout the Granite State to learn how you can make a difference in our state by advocating for justice and the common good. This event is FREE, but registration is required. The Diocese has set up the Registration link for Catholic Day at the Statehouse. There is a limit of 200 people. Attendance is free and lunch is provided. Please consider registering for yourself and please promote within your councils and parishes. Time is short so please address this within the next few days. This is a high profile Diocesan Event that dovetails perfectly with our Ministry in the Knights; especially the Fourth Degree. Thanks for all your efforts in making this a success. Ed Ed Kennedy PSD Tel ekennedy@coorstek.com Worthy sirs, Regalia at the Catholic Day March 18, 2015 Our Bishop has asked that we turn out for Catholic Day on Wednesday March 18 to assist with getting people to and from the Holiday Inn in downtown Concord to the State House for this important event. We need to be at the hotel by about 8 am. We will be mostly acting as guides to help people find the way to and from the event. They want us to turn out in regalia so that we stand out in the crowd. I'm thinking that we should leave the swords at home. I know they can carry guns into the statehouse but I'm betting they will frown on swords. If you can assist in this effort or if you will get others in the assembly to help please advise them to go to the Diocese website and sign up for the event. That way they will know how many will be on board for the lunch and for each break out session. I hope to see you at Catholic Day at the State House. Thanks for all you do. Vivat Jesus! Libasci, Bishop of Manchester and the priests in the diocese, for the annual blessing of the oils at the Chrism Mass. These oils will be distributed among the parishes and institutions of the Diocese of Manchester for use during the next year. At this special Mass, all priests will be given the opportunity to renew their priestly promises during the Liturgy. General seating is available to those who would like to attend. We have been asked to provide an Honor Guard for the Chrism Mass by the Diocese. 6 Cardinal Calls For Saint-like Love In Defense of Marriage The following was posted on March 9, 2015 on Voice of the Family web page, Life and the Family News, Synod Fathers standing up for families, Cardinal Burke. God Bless, Jim Preisendorfer <>< State Family Director 9 March 2015: A prominent Cardinal of the Catholic Church has called for Catholics to imitate the Christian martyrs in defense of marriage and human life. His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke made the call this past weekend in addresses for Voice of the Family and the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) in Chester and Southport, north-west England. On Friday evening in Chester there was standing-room only as the Cardinal spoke on the theme Remaining in the Truth of Christ on Holy Matrimony [full text: Cardinal Burke Chester ]. Bishop Mark Davies, Catholic bishop of Shrewsbury was present, as were many priests, journalists and families who had travelled from all over the UK. Cardinal Burke said: Today, for example, we sadly find the need to speak about traditional marriage, as if there were another kind of marriage. There is only one kind of marriage as God has given it to us from the Creation and as Christ has redeemed it by His saving Passion and Death. He continued: Even within the Church, there are those who would obscure the truth of the indissolubility of marriage in the name of mercy, who condone the violation of the conjugal union by means of contraception in the name of pastoral understanding, and who, in the name of tolerance, remain silent about the attack on the very integrity of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The cardinal said that the faithful must be ready to suffer, as Christians have suffered down the ages, to defend the sanctity of Holy Matrimony. On Saturday evening Cardinal Burke also addressed 150 young people at SPUC s annual youth conference in Southport on the theme of The New Evangelization of the Fallen Christian West. He started his address by saying that he had long admired SPUC, its work and John Smeaton, its chief executive. Cardinal Burke described the family home as the cradle of life and lamented the wholesale destruction of the baby in the womb. He asserted that there is no such thing as alternative sexualities, only sexuality as enshrined by God in human nature. Page 6 of 10

Vickery, Friday, March 06, 2015 Richard Vickery Obituary Fr. Richard F. Vickery, of Manchester, went to the Lord at age 91, on Friday, March 6, Born in Melrose, Massachusetts, in 1924, Fr. Vickery moved to Manchester with his family in 1925, where he attended Webster School, St. Joseph Grammar School, and then graduated from St. Joseph Boys' High School in Fr. Vickery was a proud graduate of Holy Cross College, where he joined the ROTC at the outbreak of WWII. Following his graduation in 1944, he was posted to the San Diego, California Naval Station before being assigned to a Troop Landing Ship in the Pacific. After the war, Fr. Vickery returned to Manchester. His calling to become a Catholic Priest saw him enter St. Mary's Seminary, in Baltimore, Maryland, in August Fr. Vickery was then ordained by Bishop Matthew Brady on May 22, His was initially assigned to serve at St. Thomas Aquinas, in Derry. Following that assignment, Fr. Vickery was positioned at St. Joseph's Cathedral, in Manchester, in 1950, and then, in 1952, to Blessed Sacrament Parish. In 1962 he was assigned to St. Patrick Parish. In 1965, Fr. Vickery was assigned to develop a new Parish in Newton, New Hampshire, where he oversaw the planning and construction of the new Church and Rectory. In 1969, while also serving in the New Hampshire Army National Guard, Fr. Vickery was assigned to a 10-month tour in Vietnam, where he served as an Army Chaplain. Upon his return to Manchester, he was assigned to be the Chaplin at the Manchester Veterans' Hospital, a post he served well for 20 years before retiring from active duties for health reasons in Fr. Vickery received numerous commendations and medals for his service to the United States. These include: the Army Meritorious Service Medal; the National Defense Medal; the WWII Victory Medal; the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 2 Hour Glasses; the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal; the Army Service Medal; the New Hampshire National Guard Commendation Ribbon; and the New Hampshire National Guard Service Bar with Seal. In 2004, Fr. Vickery entered the Bishop Peterson Residence, where he enjoyed the company of fellow retired priests and a wonderful staff. In 2015 he entered Mt. Carmel Nursing Home, where he was well taken care of and beloved by all until the end. He will be missed by all who knew him, and particularly by his many nieces and nephews.. On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, the Rite of Reception of the Body will take place at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Manchester. Father Vickery will lie in state in the Cathedral from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Father Vickery will also lie in state prior to the funeral liturgy on Thursday. The Most Reverend Peter A. Libasci, Bishop of Manchester, will preside at a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Joseph Cathedral on March 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Bedford, New Hampshire. The Durning, Bykowski & Young Funeral Home at 285 Manchester Street in Manchester, New Hampshire has care of the arrangements. With faith and hope in eternal life, let us commend our brother to the love and mercy of God and assist him with our prayers. The statutes of the Diocese of Manchester request that we offer three Masses for the repose of his soul.
