These vsts pmaly focused on patneshps wth a local mddle school and a hgh school. n the summe of 2006, AME epesentatves appoached the Mayo of Chefchaouen M. Mohomed Sadd El Aam and ssaquah's Mayo Ms. Ava Fsnge wth a poposal to expand the elatonshp to a fomal Sste Cty status. Afte caeful evew and consdeaton by both cty govenments, sepaate esolutons wee passed n both ssaquah and Chefchaouen adoptng each othe as ts newest sste cty.(see attachments A and B). Kngdom of Moocco (heeafte efeed to as Chefchaouen) wsh to enhance coopeaton n the endeavos of cultue, ats, musc, educaton, scence and technology, envonment, tousm, spots, lesue, tade and economy. n ode to stengthen the coopeaton, pomote mutual undestandng and deepen the fendshp on the bass of equty and tust, on ths occason of the ssaquah delegaton vst to Chefchaouen, both pates agee to the followng:. At least one cultual and one student exchange vsts to each cty shall be oganzed nvolvng adults and students wthn the duaton of ths Memoandum of Undestandng. Each vst shall be evewed n advance between the ssaquah Sste Ctes Commttee and the Chefchaouen Sste Ctes Commttee. 2. Cultual and student exchange vst detals and actvtes shall be coopeatvely ageed upon by oganzng ctzens and cvc, non-poft oganzatons dedcated to pomotng cultual exchanges and busness goups. Actvtes shall be povded wth the objectve to deepen cultual awaeness and pomote peace and undestandng between the ctzens of the two ctes. 3. Both ctes encouage and suppot the development of economc and tade oppotuntes and two-way nvestment, and povde to each othe maxmum coopeaton n possble ventues. 4. Both ctes shall cay out the exchange of expets and o deas n envonmental potecton, steam management, ves and paes. These exchanges wll lead to sustanable development. 5. The effectve tem fo ths Memoandum of Undestandng shall be fo two yeas followng the date of executon of ths Memoandum. Po to expaton of ths Memoandum of Undestandng, the Sste Cty elatonshp shall be evewed by m P

2 the Cty of ssaquah Sste Ctes Commttee and C-efchaouen Sste Ctes Commttee. Pogess of the elatonshp, as well as a ecommendaton as to whethe the elatonshp shall contnue, shall be epoted by the two Commttees. 6. 5 V.. V RESOLUTON NO A RESOLUTON OF THE CTY COUNCL OF THE CTY OF SSAQUAH, WASHNGTON, ESTABLSHNG CHEFCHAOUEN, MOROCCO AS SSAQUAH'S NEWEST SSTER CTY. WHEREAS, the Amecan Mooccan ntenatonal Exchange (AME), a local nonnonpoft oganzaton to pomote peace and undestandng though coss-cultual pogams between the countes ofmoocco and the Unted States ofameca, pesented a equest to the Cty of ssaquah fo a sste cty elatonshp wth Chefchaouen ("Chaouen"); WHEREAS, on August 5, 99, the Cty Councl passed Resoluton No. 9-8, establshng a sste cty afflatons polcy fo the Cty ofssaquah; WHEREAS, Chaouen meets the objectves as outlned n Resoluton No. 9-8 by povdngctzen educaton and the enhancementof cultual awaeness and senstvtes; WHEREAS, Chaouen s a cty that sponsos communty festvals, s a cty nteested n development ofa meanngful sste cty elatonshp and s a cty ofcompaable sze; and WHEREAS, on Novembe 20, 2006, the Cty Councl dected the Admnstaton to pepae a Resoluton fo fomal acceptance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE T RESOLVED by the Cty Councl ofthe Cty of ssaquah that the Cty of Chefchaouen, Moocco s heeby establshed as ssaquah's newest Sste Cty.
