He sustained fractures in a rib and right hand. He was arrested before being taken to Government Royapettah Hospital. Ramakrishnan was familiar with Madhavi as he used to perform pujas in her house. On the day he went to her 3 rd floor flat at around a.m when her husband Veerarajulu, manager in an automobile company, had left for work. According to police, Madhavi was not expecting Ramakrish- nan but as she knew him well she invited him in. She then went to the kitchen to make tea. Ramakrishnan locked the main door and walked towards the kitchen. Seeing him there, Madhavi asked him to go back to the hall. Ramakrishnan pulled out a foot-long knife and asked her to hand over her jewels. Madhavi initially agreed but then held the knife in both hands and started screaming for help. Residents on the 1 st and 2 nd floors of the residential complex came out and began climbing towards Madhavi s flat. Ramakrishnan snatched the knife from her, inflicted a cut on the right hand and ran out. He saw people coming up and jumped off the terrace onto the 2 nd floor of the adjacent (61/28) building.
