Ph: LETTER TO THE EDITOR Parked van hinders traffic on narrow lane Sir, I am a resident of Vyasar Street (T. Nagar). It is a narrow 30-foot-wide road. A mini bus owned by a private operator bearing registration number TN20-AL9056 is frequently parked on this road thereby blocking off 50% of the carriageway causing hindrance to road users. This photo which was taken on May 16 shows the mini bus parked outside 9/6, Vyasar Street and blocking both the pavement and one half of the road. I request the traffic officials to take suitable action against the vehicle owner. R. Badrinath Speeding vehicle damages compound wall of an apartment building Part of the compound wall of Bharani Apartments (No. 4, Thirumoorthy Street, T. Subramanian in / Public toilet demolished to widen New Boag Road Two avenue trees were axed and a public toilet was demolished outside Kannammapet Burial Ground on New Boag Road, T. Nagar, as part of road widening work. A Corporation official told Mambalam Times that the road will be widened by another 10 feet. He said that since the present compound wall of the burial ground will also have to be demolished to widen the road, a new one will be constructed 5 feet away from the present spot. Ph: Drain covers damaged within a week of installation Following reports in Mambalam Times and appeals from the Residents Association to Chennai Corporation, metal gratings were used to cover the nine 4-inch-wide openings in the stormwater drains constructed on Motilal Street, T. Nagar, on May 4. Three of the nine gratings are already damaged and one of them is missing. The drains were constructed a couple of months ago by Chennai Corporation but the drain openings were left open. Last month an elderly woman resident of Motilal Street fractured her leg when it got caught in one of the openings. Sewage overflowing from manhole on Giri Street Sewage has been overflowing from the manhole chamber on Giri Street, T. Nagar for the past several days. A nearby resident said that the stench is awful and it has also led to proliferation of mosquitoes. He said that in spite of several complains to Metrowater officials no action has been taken so far.
