More details can be had in phone Worker hurt in building collapse China Maruthu (19) of Cuddalore, a construction worker, was injured when a portion of an old building in Ashok Nagar collapsed on May 24. Police said some workers were demolishing the building on 9th Avenue when a portion of it suddenly collapsed. While others managed to escape, China Maruthu was trapped in the rubble. Fire service personnel and others managed to pull him out after a couple of hours. The victim, who suffered serious injuries in his legs, was admitted in Government Royapettah Hospital. Devadasan recalled that they had vacated their shops in the old market following assurances given by the Corporation that all of them would be provided space in the ground Allotment wrangle in Pondy Bazaar shopping complex floor of the new complex. With no shops occupied, the complex remains closed and garbage can be found dumped at the entrance. Devadasan said that the Association has filed a case in the High Court seeking increase in the space for each shop in the ground floor from 5 ft x 5ft to 10 ft x 10 ft. The complex has an area of 43,032 sq.ft and three lifts. It has space to accommodate 644 hawkers and shopkeepers including those on Thyagaraya Road, Sivaprakasam Road and Usman Road.
