The accused, Sashma Rawat, had been working as cashier in a pharmaceutical company in K. K. Nagar for 7 years. The owner, Ratnakar Saahu (47), noticed some anomalies in the accounts and found no supporting bills for some high cash expenses. On complete scrutiny, he found that she had misappropriated close to Rs. 20 lakhs over two years. Based on the complaint filed by Ratnakar, K. K. Nagar police arrested Sashma. Mambalam resident to get Sangeetha Kala Acharya award Mridangam vidwan Tanjore Ramadoss (a resident of Burma Kanagambal Street, West Mambalam), is to be conferred Sangeetha Kala Acharya award by Music Academy, Mylapore for his dedication and devotion to music for over five decades. His contact number is Water supply problem in Vivekanandapuram 1st Street Despite repeated representations to Metrowater officials, the residents of Vivekanandapuram 1st Street, West Mambalam are not getting piped water supply. According to the residents, the old pipelines have not been replaced in spite of several complaints. Houses located on one half of the street do not receive water supply even through handpumps, while some houses receive supply only through handpumps. The residents are forced to buy water through tankers from Metrowater or privates suppliers to meet their daily needs. Nagar & Mambalam Vol. 24, No. 16 Man files complaint against vets after death of pet dogs A real estate businessman lodged a complaint against the doctors of Saidapet Veterinary Hospital on Sept. 2 over the death of his two pet dogs soon after they were taken there for treatment. 40-year-old G. J. Moses (a resident of West Mambalam) said in his complaint that he owned a 8-year-old Pomeranian dog and a Pomeranian puppy. When the pup fell sick, he took it to Saidapet Veterinary Hospital. Doctors there gave an injection and sent the pet home. The other Pomeranian also stopped eating the same evening, and was taken to the same hospital, where it was given antibiotics. After returning home, the dog died and the pup died the next day. Moses told Mambalam Times that as both the dogs died within 24 hours of treatment for similar ailments he suspected wrong treatment or foul play by the vets, and filed a complaint in the police station. The carcasses were sent for postmortem to the Vepery Veterinary Hospital, and the autopsy reports are expected in 15 days. 1305th Issue: September 8-14, 2018 Woman robbed of jewellery, cash 48-year-old Lalitha (a resident of Aminjikarai) was robbed of her bag containing 7 sovereigns of jewellery, Rs. 14,000 in cash, two mobile phones and credit cards by two 250 kg. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Railways respond to letter published in Mambalam Times Sir, In response to my letter published in Mambalam Times on June 30 regarding poor maintenance of platforms in Central Railway Station, I have received a letter from Chennai Divisional Railway Manager stating that action has been initiated to inspect and repair all the platforms in the station. In my letter, I had written that the platform surfaces are uneven, and travellers, especially senior citizens like me, who have trolley bags, face hardship in dragging them and are forced to engage porters. Ph: Toilets on Police Quarters Road not maintained properly Sir, There is a garbage bin kept at the corner of Police Quarters Road situated behind T. Nagar bus terminus and close to T. Nagar Police station. Garbage is regularly overflowing from the bin and passersby have also converted the location into an open urinal. In addition to this, the two public toilets on the road are poorly maintained. The doors are damaged, the toilets are not cleaned regularly and there is an awful stench throughout the day. Nagar Owners must not demand excess rental advance Sir, In a verdict in 1996, the Supreme Court had said, The landlord is entitled to receive only one month s agreed rent by way of advance. The XIII Small Causes Court in Chennai in 2015 underlined the precedent established by the Supreme Court. The court had then directed a house-owner to adjust the advance amount paid for rent arrears. But, I find that in the city several house-owners demand and collect anywhere from 6 months to 10 months rent as advance from the tenant. Is this permissible under law? N. S. Shirdi Sai Seva Samaj completes 10 years Shirdi Sai Seva Samaj (21, Jaishankar Street, West Mambalam) celebrated its 10 th anniversary on Aug. 31. The Samaj built a Sai Baba temple in its premises in 2007 thanks to the initial efforts of the late Visalakshi Ammal. She was an ardent Shirdi Sai Baba devotee and purchased the land at the age of 93. She then started a bhajana mandali. After she passed away in 2003, the members of the mandali continued her good work and formed the Samaj. The temple was built in 2007 where a 5.5 ft. marble idol of Sai Baba has been installed. Daily poojas are held with annadhanam for 100 devotees at a.m. Vishnu sahasranaamam and archanai are performed at 6:30 p.m. On Thursdays, bhajans are conducte at 7.45 p.m followed by palki utsav. Important religious festivals are performed with fervour in the temple. The Samaj also extends medical and educational assistance to needy persons. Dutch woman found dead in T. Nagar hotel A woman from Netherlands was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hotel room in Venkatesan Street, T. Nagar on the night of Aug. 30. He passport records showed her name as Linda Irene Heijker (24). She had checked into the hotel on Aug. 29 and introduced herself as a journalist. She told the staff she would check out the next day. Since she did not vacate the room by p.m, the hotel staff opened her room using a duplicate key at p.m and found her dead. The hotel management informed Mambalam police about the death. According to a police official, Linda is suspected to have committed suicide, as they found a powdery substance next to her bed. Linda s body has been sent to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for postmortem.
