1 19 May th December TERM 1 The Birth of Jesus 2 In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2 (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3 And everyone went to their own town to register. 4 So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5 He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. 8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests. 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, Let s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about. 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. 2 Dear Parents and Friends Learning is what we do-we are committed to learning at every level. Special congratulations to all the children on successfully completing another year of their educational journey. It is a great honour to see your children grow and learn, as they scaffold their knowledge and build upon their natural curiosity. When they are challenged to learn more by their teachers and respond to these challenges positively with courage and enthusiasm their achievement potential is maximized. It has been a pleasure to read all their reports and celebrate their journey. I take this opportunity to once more thank you all for your support and encouragement over my time here as your Principal. I wish to especially acknowledge the staff of Our Lady Star of the Sea. Never have I had the privilege of working with such a dedicated and committed group of people. You are blessed to have such a fine team taking care of your school and presenting a learning programme that is of the highest quality. To have the opportunity to lead such a fine team has been a joy and a delight. I take with me the many lessons they and the children have taught me along with many fond memories. 5 Year 6 Graduation - Mrs Maguire This week, we say goodbye to our Year Six students as they move onto high school next year. They are a truly remarkable bunch and will be greatly missed by all. It was only yesterday that I was having a conversation with another staff member about our graduating class, which isn t unusual. The comments I receive vary, from their outstanding academic excellence, to their excellent leadership qualities, to their lovely nature. It has been wonderful to share in their learning journey and I can easily say, that coming to work over the past year has been nothing but a pleasure. Our school community would also like to recognise the families that, with the graduation of their Year Six children, also move on The Fiegert, Simons, Payne, Wilson, Kerr and Panizza families. Your help and continuous support, whether it was during sport carnivals, supervising at excursions, or even some kind words of encouragement, were greatly appreciated. You will all be greatly missed too! As Dr Seuss once said, Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. We hope that the students and parents farewelling our school look back fondly on the many moments that turned into memories at Our Lady Star of the Sea! Page 5
