Now more than ever, our Church needs those who may be called to a vocation to Be not afraid and take steps to discern the call. Parents and catechists, please take a few moments this week to talk to children about vocations and how everyone has a calling that must be properly discerned and encouraged. All are invited to spend a few minutes before the Blessed Sacrament and/or to pray a rosary for vocations this Thursday evening, November 8. Eucharistic Adoration will begin at 6:00PM, be followed by a rosary at 7:00PM and will close with Benediction at 7:30PM. Sponsored by the parish Vocations Committee. 2

Women s ACTS Retreat November 1 4, 2018 All women of Epiphany are invited to attend our first ever Women s ACTS Retreat. This interactive, three days, three nights retreat led by A C T S fellow parishioners and supported by our Clergy will bring you closer to our Lord through the Holy Spirit in the focal areas of Adoration, Community, Theology and Service. The Retreat begins the evening of Thursday, November 1 and concludes with the welcome home celebration at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, November 4. Job opening in Nursery Applicant must be 18 years of age and pass a background check. Applicant must have reliable transporta on. Experience with children of all ages required. Applicant must enjoy the company of children as well. Flexible schedule. Nursery hours are not guaranteed. It s beginning to look like Christmas. And what does that mean?? Time to clear out all the old toys and games the kids aren t playing with and bring them to the Nursery! I will gladly accept gently used toys and games with all the parts and pieces for all ages up to 12 years. Anything I can t use will be passed on to other organizations. DONATIONS NEEDED We are providing coats or jackets (new or used), new blankets and books to those in need on Thanksgiving day. Please leave the donations in the collection bins in the loggia outside of the Family Center. BEREAVEMENT MEETING, November 5th Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4. In a church community, no one should mourn alone. The support of others who have also experienced this kind of loss can help us feel that we are not alone on our grief journey. Please join us for our next gathering on Monday, November 5 at 6:30 pm in the Outreach conference room. If you cannot attend but want information, call Lisa at FOOD DRIVE Next Weekend The Knights will be collecting non-perishable food and personal care items for Epiphany Food closet on Sunday November 4th. We are low on Cereal, Peanut Butter and Macaroni and Cheese. If you forget your food donation they can be dropped off in the food bins in the loggia. Thank you. Clinic Care Kits Through the generous donations of our parishioners and Dr. Tasha Ruiz, DDS of Rightway Dental we were able to assemble and deliver 416 Clinic Care Kits. We would like to say thank you to all who donated and to our tireless volunteers that assembled the kits to be given to Christ Clinic and our own St. Vincent de Paul. Holiday Food Baskets Needed If you are looking for something to do with your children and want to bless another family for the holidays consider making a Food Basket. There are 36 parishioners identified as struggling financially and we want to bless them with Thanksgiving food baskets. If you are interested call or outreach@epiphanycatholic.org. Baskets or boxes can be decorated and notes enclosed. Be sure to sign first names only. Items to include in the baskets are food for their festive meal, gift card to Walmart/grocery store (for them to purchase perishable food including meat and milk), personal care products, etc., to make Thanksgiving special. 9 Adult Faith Formation INFANT BAPTISM PREPARATION A Baptism Preparation Session for parents and godparents will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon in the Family Center. Parents must attend a baptism preparation session before scheduling their child s baptism. Call to register for this preparation session. The next opportunity to attend a baptism class at Epiphany will be on Saturday, February 9, DISCIPLESHIP: TAKING THE WORD TO HEART Audio CD s from the National Catholic Bible Conference which was held at St. John Vianney in Houston in May, 2017 are available for oneweek checkout at our Reception desk at no cost - only one CD at a time. Great to listen to while driving! Listen to nationally recognized speakers such as Jeff Cavins, Fr. Mike Schmitz, and Dr. Edward Sri as they inspire you to live out your calling as a witness to God s unfailing love for every person in your life. NO HARSHNESS Fight all error, but do it with good humor, patience, kindness, and love. Harshness will damage your own soul and spoil the best cause. St. John Kanty Today is the feast of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, the first representative body of many Catholics who died for their faith between 1535 and 1679 to be beatified or canonized. Almost all of them died at Tyburn, a place of public execution near today s Marble Arch in Hyde Park, London. The first to suffer were Carthusian monks who refused to swear an oath supporting Henry VIII as supreme head of the Church in England, and the last was Saint Oliver Plunkett, the Primate Archbishop of Ireland. The method of execution was particularly vile, since the condemned were hanged and their living bodies quartered to be displayed around London as a horrific warning. Today, the tree-like gallows provides the design of a religious symbol, the canopy over the altar of the martyrs in Tyburn Convent. There, at the heart of the bustling city, a monastic community of women practices contemplative prayer and spiritual hospitality in the Benedictine tradition. Oddly, the community is French in origin; it was expelled from France a century ago when France outlawed contemplative monastic life. England, where the laws against Catholicism had been lifted, invited the community in. In gratitude to their new homeland, and in honor of those who gave their lives for the Catholic faith, the nuns came to Tyburn. In the public crypt, coats of arms stand for each of the 350 martyrs. 10 Elementary Faith Formation Epiphany Youth Ministry This retreat is for students and parents who are registered for 1st Reconciliation preparation.
