9 EPIPHANY BINGO - As a result of the dedicated work of all the Bingo volunteers and the tremendous support of our players, distribu ons to local charitable organiza ons, Epiphany Outreach, and the catholic school capital campaign will exceed $60,000 for the year in But the year isn t over yet. We invite all parishioners and friends to come join us for a Bingo night. Bingo night at Epiphany will con nue this year through Friday, November 16 th. As always MAXIMUM CASH PRIZES of $2500, allowed by state law, are given away at EVERY FRI- DAY NIGHT BINGO. This includes a $750 final game jackpot prize each night. The bingo window and concessions open at 7:00pm and the games begin at 7:30pm with 4 earlybird games and 8:00 for the regular games. Due to large a number of recent reloca ons and re rements, the Bingo volunteer group has a very serious need for more volunteer members on each team, including for the concession area. The me obliga on is only about once every 4 weeks. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and help us con nue this ministry. THANKS One act of thanksgiving when things go wrong with us is worth one thousand thank-yous when things are agreeable to our inclination. St. John of Ávila November is a month of remembrance for the dead, and cemeteries have long been a focus for prayer. Our tradition holds great respect for bodily remains, since the body was created and redeemed by God, was once the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, and has a destiny of life with God in glory. The funeral practices of the early church contrasted greatly with those of the pagans, who had a great dread of the dead body. The ancient Christian funeral liturgy ended with the relatives and friends giving a final kiss to the body. It expressed affection and showed their faith that the grave would not be the last word. This kiss horrified pagans, who thought that any contact with the dead was degrading. Every year on their loved one s birthday to life, the Christians would return to the place of their burial to mark their profound communion with those whose lives were hidden in Christ. Typically, they buried the dead with their faces turned toward the east, symbolizing the rising of the Sun of Justice, Christ, at the end of days. They were attracted to the catacombs or burial grounds just as we are today. They would often celebrate the Eucharist at the tomb. Before long, as soon as Christians were allowed to build places for worship, they relocated cemeteries from beyond the city walls to surround the church. This was not so much because the church made the ground holy, but because the bodies of the saints hallowed the ground on which the church was built, a subtle but beautiful difference. Rev. 10 Adult Faith Formation Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) The community of the faithful (parishioners) need to take an active role in the Rite of Acceptance (for the unbaptized) and the Rite of Welcome (for those baptized Christian). Following the Rite of Acceptance, the unbaptized are now considered part of the household of Christ as they now take part in the Liturgy of the Word during the 9:45 Mass. The Rite of Welcome formally welcomes those who are already baptized Christian as they now begin regularly attending Sunday worship with our faith community during the 9:45 Mass. The Rites of Acceptance and Welcome will take place during the 9:45 Mass today, November 18. The prayers of the parish community are necessary to strengthen the faith of these adults. Through our full participation during Mass, parishioners serve as examples for the catechumens (the unbaptized) and candidates (baptized Christian, seeking full communion with the Catholic Church) as they continue to prepare for full initiation into the Catholic Church during the Easter Vigil Mass of Epiphany Youth Ministry REGISTER ONLINE Elementary Faith Formation There are NO Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday CFF sessions this week.
