The Gospel led the Holy Father to reflect on three different groups of Christians. First, there are Christians who are concerned only with their own relationship with Jesus, a closed, selfish relationship, who do not hear the cries of others: This group of people, even today, do not hear the cry of so many people who need Jesus. A group of people who are indifferent: they do not hear, they think that life is their own little group; they are content; they are deaf to the clamor of so many people who need salvation, who need the help of Jesus, who need the Church. These people are selfish, they live for themselves alone. They are unable to hear the voice of Jesus. Then, the Pope continued, there are those who hear this cry for help, but want to silence it, like the disciples when they sent away the children, so that they would not disturb the Master : He was their Master He was for them, not for everyone. These people send away from Jesus those who cry out, who need the faith, who need salvation. In this group one finds the men of affairs, who are close to Jesus, who are in the temple. They seem religious, but Jesus chased them away because they were doing business there, in the house of God. There are those who do not want to hear the cry for help, but prefer to take care of their business, and use the people of God, use the Church for their own affairs. In this group there are Christians who do not bear witness : They are Christians in name, parlor room Christians, Christians at receptions, but their interior life is not Christian, it is worldly. Someone who calls himself Christian and lives like a world-ling drives away those who cry out for help from Jesus. And then there are the rigorists, those whom Jesus rebukes, those who place such heavy weights on the backs of the people. Jesus devotes the whole of the twenty-third chapter of St Matthew to them: Hypocrites, he says to them, you exploit the people! And instead of responding to the cries of the people who cry out for salvation, they send them away. There is, finally, a third group of Christians, those who help [people] draw near to Jesus : There is the group of Christians who are consistent in what they believe and in how they live, and they help to draw near to Jesus, to the people who are crying out, seeking salvation, seeking grace, seeking spiritual health for their souls. It would be good for us to make an examination of conscience, the Pope concluded, in order to understand whether we are Christians who drive people away from Jesus, or who draw people to Him because we hear the cry of the many people who are seeking help for their own salvation. Epiphany Nursery is accepting applications for two positions. Hours guaranteed on Sunday s from 9:15 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Occasional hours during the week; mornings and evenings. Applicant must be 18 years of age, have their own transportation, and speak and write English. Experience with infants and children is required. Please visit the church office Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. BAPTISM PREPARATION SESSION The session for parents and godparents to prepare for the baptism of their infants will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon in the Family Center. This preparation session is required before parents can schedule the Sacrament of Baptism for their infants. Parents and godparents are encouraged to attend this session before the birth of the child. Call to register for this session. Childcare during this class is available by ing nursery@epiphanycatholic.org with parent s name, ages of children needing nursery and name/date of event. The next opportunity to attend a baptism class will be on Saturday, February 13, Music Ministry Our Music Ministry at Epiphany is looking for a person to help with music preparation and organization. This is a part time paid position of ten hours. Interested persons should contact Spencer Schuyler at #270. Our Christmas Concert is fast approaching. In honor of Respect for Life month there will be a blessing of all expectant mothers during all the Masses this weekend. And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. (MARK 10:52) Faith is believing in something even though you may not be able to see it. Many people think that miracles don t happen anymore. But, if you focus on the positive, not the negative, focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common. Epiphany Feast Day Celebration Epiphany of the Lord is sponsoring the 1 st annual Feast Day Celebration, which falls on Sunday, January 3, It will be a celebration of our parish s cultural diversity through music, food and cultural display. To make this event a success, we are asking for your support in sharing your culture, traditions and culinary skills. So far, we have representatives from the US, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Mexico, and Nigeria. We are seeking volunteers to represent European countries and other countries. Our next planning meeting will be in November. Ride needed to Church A Gentleman at the Solana at Cinco Ranch needs a ride to Church on Sunday. He normally attends 9:45am service, but is unable to drive himself now. Call Lisa in Outreach at if you can help. Letter for our Troops If you have time please consider sending a note or card to those serving in the military. For Christmas notes the deadline is November 10th and for Valentine Day the deadline is December 31st. The volunteers that day were so efficient they completed the roof, and were also able to get the windows finished. Holiday Food Baskets Needed There are 40 parishioners identified as struggling financially and we want to bless them with Thanksgiving food baskets. We are looking for families or groups to help with this endeavor. If you are interested please call Lisa at or her at outreach@epiphanycatholic.org. She can give you a few more details on those receiving the basket. Baskets or boxes can be decorated and notes enclosed. Be sure to sign first names only. Items to include in the baskets/boxes are food for their festive meal, gift card to Walmart/grocery store (for them to purchase perishable food including meat and milk), personal care products, etc. to make Thanksgiving special. Deliver the baskets to the Outreach Center by Friday, November 20th. 8

Sacred and Safe: Safe Environment Lessons for 1st and 2nd grade will be offered today, Sunday, October 25, during regular Faith Formation times. Lessons for Kindergarten, 1 st and 2 nd will be offered on Tuesday, October 27, and Wednesday, October 28 also during class time. Home Based children are encouraged to attend with their parent(s). Call the Faith Formation Office to let us know that you plan to attend with your child rd, 4th, and 5th Grades will have Sacred and Safe Lessons presented the week of November 8th, 10th, and 11th. We are seeking devoted adults and teens to work individually with children with disabilities. If you have taught in the past few years and would like to return on call as needed basis call the Faith Formation Office to get on our Substitute List! The 2015 Wedding Anniversary Jubilee Masses honoring couples celebrating their Golden (50th) or silver (25th) Anniversaries of marriage in the Catholic Church will be held on: Golden -50 Years of Marriage- Sunday, December 20, 2015 and Silver -25 years of Marriage- Sunday, November 29, 2015, at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart at 3:00 p.m. Whether or not a couple attends the ceremony, they are eligible to receive a special recognition.
