5 Readings for the Week of July 30, 2018 Lecturas para la semana del 30 de Julio,2018 Reflexión/Reflection We gather today to celebrate the Eucharist, as we do each Sunday, to be nourished by Christ s Body and Blood. In the Gospel, we hear one of Jesus most familiar miracles, the multiplication of the loaves and fish. But every time we celebrate the Eucharist we witness another miracle, the transformation of bread and wine into Jesus Body and Blood. May it nourish us as we go out into the world. From now until the end of August, the Gospel will be a selection from a single chapter of John the chapter in which Jesus reveals himself as the Bread of Life, the one whose Body and Blood can bring eternal life. This chapter begins with Jesus feeding thousands by multiplying the loaves and fish, but we begin today with Elisha, a man of God, who feeds a hundred people with twenty small loaves. Listening to the readings today, note all the acts of generosity. Nos reunimos hoy para celebrar la Eucaristía, tal como hacemos cada domingo, y para alimentarnos con el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo. El Evangelio nos narra uno de los milagros de Jesús que nos son más familiares, la multiplicación de los panes y los peces. Pero cada vez que celebramos la Eucaristía somos testigos de ese milagro, esto es, de la transformación del pan y el vino en el cuerpo y la sangre de Jesús. Ese alimento nos servirá de sustento cuando salgamos de aquí a nuestro mundo. Desde ahora hasta el final de agosto el Evangelio será tomado de un mismo capítulo de san Juan, el capítulo en que Jesús se revela a sí mismo como el Pan de Vida, cuyo cuerpo y cuya sangre nos pueden dar la vida eterna. Este capítulo comienza con la multiplicación de los panes y los peces, pero en realidad las lecturas de hoy comienzan con Eliseo, un siervo de Dios, que le da de comer a cien personas con veinte panes. Cuando escuchemos las lecturas de hoy, pongamos atención a todas las acciones generosas que se describen en ellas.

I anointeth my skin with oil, my gas tank runneth dry; surely my trailer shall follow me all the weekends this summer and I shall return to the house of the Lord this Fall.
