May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. The celebration of All Saints is an invitation for all of us to be saints. On the one hand we admire the canonized heroes who followed Jesus Christ by living their virtuous life, and whom the Church has proclaimed to be life models we can all imitate; and on the other hand we recall our own dead, those humble, nameless saints. They are our holy family members, people of our town, from our own street; people like us who managed to walk the path and make it to Heaven. Who are the saints? One time, a little girl in PSR class gave a good definition in answer to this question: "Saints are those men and women that are in the stained glass windows at church, and the light of the sun shines through them." And it's true, a saint is a soul in the state of grace that has preserved intact the image of God, or has remade and perfected it all throughout life without spoiling it by sin; the saint then transmits this to others by their testimony of life. It was not easy for them to overcome the obstacles they ran across in their path. It was tiring for them to allow good to work in their souls, and they didn't sell out to the traps that were laid for them. Being a saint is not doing miracles or amazing acts for future generations. The saints we celebrate today show us that following Christ is possible, and that's what holiness is all about. Some were very influential in life; others went by unnoticed. How many saints are there? The book of Apocalypse speaks of an immense multitude that no one could count, men and women of every race, age and condition that lived for others, that conquered egoism, that always forgave others. They are all on a pilgrimage, and as happens in processions, some of them have already gone into the church and others are still on the road. Their path has taken them along each of the Beatitudes preached by Jesus. "Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who suffer, those who hunger and thirst for justice, the merciful, and the clean of heart." We have to follow their example and live this same program. Me, can I be a saint? Saints were not angels or heroes from another planet. They are people who lived in this world in times that were just as difficult as our own, or worse; but they learned to love. Their example should encourage us to continue on our way, full of hope. They have already reached their goal and encourage us to live a more intense and vigorous Christian life. If they could be a saint, so can I with the grace of God! Let us be the saints of our own time!

6 This feast day grew out of the love and devotion of God s people. The Church chose this feast to honor God and His saints, in whom he has shown Himself so wonderful. We thank God as the creator of all holiness and for the graces He has showered upon them. Today we can rejoice in our hearts with all the saints in heaven. We can make up our own prayer to them, thanking them for the witness of their lives. This feast day is one of the most loving celebrations in the Church s liturgy. This is the day that we especially remember those who have passed from this life into the next. Today we stop to remember all who we have loved that have passed away. We pray for those who have taught us good things, who prayed for us while on this earth, and we pray the most for the forgotten souls. We pray for those holy souls in purgatory and we realize that they are saved. Now they wait, being purified, until the moment when they can be with God, face to face. CHRISTMAS DINNER DANCE The theme of this year s Parish Christmas Dinner Dance is A Country Christmas. Tickets are $40 per person and will be on sale at all Masses during November (or until sold out). Payment is required at the time of registration. Dinner is being catered by Da Corrado Ristorante and the Hands of Time band will be playing. COKAS STAFF UPDATE We are very pleased to let you know that the posted job opening for Communications Coordinator has been filled! Emily Faz joins the staff as our new Communication Coordinator. She is a new parishioner here at COKAS and looks forward to getting to know and serve the congregation. Emily is originally from Crawford, Georgia, but has recently moved to Greshamville. She proudly holds a bachelors degree in Public Relations/Communications with an emphasis in Brand Management from Georgia Southern University. Emily s experience ranges from Law Marketing for Law Firms across the US, to Small Business Management and marketing. With that experience comes very strong communication skills, graphic design skills, extensive business management skills. COKAS will greatly benefit from Emily s professional background and she is looking forward to becoming more involved in her new parish. Thank you for your prayers for me and my staff. We feel very blessed and are excited that Emily has decided to join our parish staff., and I am confident she will love her new position at COKAS.
