The summer of 2011 has been a great summer on so many levels. We had a great Memorial Day Family night at Camp Istrouma. The fellowship and fun were amazing. We saw our youth and children/adult Vacation Bible Schools do great things. Our children's musical was worshipful, meaningful and entertaining. We sent mission teams to Joplin Mo. and Cuba. We saw many open their hearts to Christ and grow in His Grace. Overall it was a great summer break. As school starts we are planning a Sunday Night worship service at 6:00. We will have a theme/emphasis each month with a variety of speakers. I hope you will pray for and support that service. I believe it will be a blessing to so many as we reach out and offer a service to those who are seeking to worship and fellowship Sunday evening. We are also happy to announce that our internship program is going well. We have 2 wonderful interns who will be serving our Lord and learning the art of ministry. In August we are planning a new series that will hopefully answer some of the questions we have about judgment, such as: are we to judge?? If so when, why and who?? What is the purpose of judging and when should a person not judge...and what if you are the one being judged? These are just a few of the questions we will attempt to answer. Whatever you already believe or understand about judgment, I promise you, this series will challenge you! (You won't be bored) So once again, thanks for a great summer at LOUMC! 3 Coming Soon! CHURCH PICTORIAL DIRECTORY DATES SCHEDULED FOR PICTURES September September October 4 8 October We will be scheduling appointments through Olan Mills Portrait by phone or online. More information will be distributed as dates get closer. Beginning the first week of August and from then on, at the start of each new quarter, the prayer list on the back of the bulletin will be started anew. At that time, if you wish your loved one's name to continue on the list, we welcome you to call the church office and give Cathy that information. With our congregation growing and prayer needs abounding, we want to help everyone in their desire to pray effectively. Many have mentioned feeling overwhelmed by the need to pray for so many and some have even avoided adding a loved one due to the size of the list. We sincerely want to pray for the needs of all our congregation and feel this refreshing of the list will help all of us in that goal. We would also love to hear from you when a need is met so that we can rejoice with you and praise our mighty God for His provision. Thank you for your understanding and thank you for your prayers for those on the prayer list. Psalm 27:14 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, then we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. Romans 8:24, 25. He who testifies to these things says, Surely I am coming quickly Even so, come, Lord Jesus. Rev. 22:20. Fiction has painted the picture of a young lady whose fiancé left her for a voyage to the Holy Land, promising on his return to make her his beloved bride. Many told her that she would never see him again. But she believed his word, and evening by evening she went down to the lonely shore and kindled there a beacon light in sight of the roaring waves to greet and welcome the returning ship which was to bring again her betrothed. And by that watch fire she took her stand each night, praying to the winds to hasten on sluggish sails that he who was everything to her might come. Even so the blessed Lord, who has loved us into death, has gone away to the mysterious Holy Land of heaven, promising on His return to make us (His church) His happy and eternal bride. Some say that He has gone forever, and that here we shall never see Him again. But His last words were, Yea, I come quickly. And on the dark and misty beach sloping out into the eternal sea, each true believer stands by the fire looking and waiting, praying and hoping for the fulfillment of His word, in nothing gladder that in His pledge and promise, and calling from the soul of sacred love. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. And one of these nights, while the world is busy with its frivolities, and laughing at the young lady on the shore, a form shall rise over the surging waves, as once in Galilee, you vindicate forever all this watching and devotion, and bring to the faithful and constant heart a joy, and glory, and triumph which nevermore shall end. Adopted from The Apocalypse, 1957 by Joseph Seiss Sunday Night Service Our Sunday Night Service will be starting up on August 7 th at 6:00pm! We are really excited about this new opportunity to come together and worship as a family of believers, growing deeper in our knowledge and understanding of God. This service will provide a great time for believers of all ages to unite together under a common purpose loving God and loving others in His name. Each month we will focus on a different topic. The topic for the month of August will focus on Fortifying the Family. The first week (Aug. 7 th ) we will discuss Facing Trials as a Family, then we will look at Raising Godly Children & Teens. The third and fourth weeks in August we will look more specifically at Love, Dating & Relationships, then focus on, How to Sustain Love through the Years. The service will last from 6:00-7:00pm each Sunday evening. David Orges will be our primary speaker, but occasionally other speakers will be invited to share their testimony and expertise. The first week, Mr. Willie Graves and Mrs. Francis LaFleur will be sharing how they have faced past and recent trials as a family and how their faith in Christ has been strengthened through all the difficulties they have faced. We look forward to what God is going to do through their testimony and through this service as a whole. We are really excited about this new service and we hope to see each of you there August 7 th at 6:00pm in the sanctuary. Seminary Scholarships: These are Professional Christian Service Scholarships for individuals attending Seminary and applications can be picked up at the church office. Singles Again Ministry A Single Again Tuesday night fellowship and Bible study is beginning August 16th at 7:00PM and every Tuesday Night afterward. The Bible study for the first two months will be on being complete in Christ and will focus on practical Biblical guidance for singles. Your use of the offertory envelopes in each pew provides us with important information to correctly process your donations. When using the new envelopes, please make sure to note your intentions of where you would like your donations to go. Our Church believes that AWANA is a wonderful tool that Jesus can and does use for drawing children to Himself. At the heart of AWANA is a belief in the power of God s Word. Therefore AWANA is committed to instilling God s very words into our children through Bible memorization and teaching. Children who participate in AWANA can speak words that were born in the heart of God! In addition, the power of God s word continues to impact them the rest of their life! We also have game time and special events! Coming up September 3 rd is a special Saturday Wet and Wild event for all who have attended at least once this school year. Do you want your children to have this opportunity to grow in knowledge and understanding of God s Word? Or are you interested in helping instill the word of God into our children s lives through this program? Please see the booth in the back for more information and to sign up. Upcoming AWANA Days AWANA meetings are Sunday Nights from 5:30 7 with signin starting at 5:15 August 7 th Root Beer Float Night. At the conclusion of AWANA we will serve root beer floats. August 14 th School Colors Night. Wear your school colors to AWANA August 21 st Popcorn Night. We will have fresh popped popcorn during counsel time August 28 th Silly Hat Night. Find or make a silly hat to wear to AWANA *SATURDAY* September 3 Special Wet and Wild AWANA for anyone who attended one of the first 4 clubs. Leader Trainings August 7 th at 4:30 PM - We will have a leaders training for all AWANA leaders in the conference room. Pizza will be provided. We will also repeat this training at a later date yet to be announced. August 13 th - Greenwell Springs Baptist will host the AWANA Ministry Conference. This is an opportunity to learn more about AWANA and get some fresh excitement and ideas. It is not mandatory. We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other.

5 Red Hat Angels Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan s Purse The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Red Barrels will be for collections of items listed below: August Hygiene Items: Toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc. September School Supplies: Pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, coloring and picture books, etc. October Toys: Small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yo s, jump ropes, toys that light up or make noise with extra batteries, slinky, etc. November Other: Hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gum, socks, t-shirts, sunglasses, flashlights with extra batteries, ball caps, etc. We would like to thank everyone for their generosity during the month of June and July in helping us collect items for our very own food bank. Your donations are very much appreciated. Thank you. Ladies Bible Learn about the Bad Girls in the Bible. Bible Study on the Bad Girls of the Bible beginning Sunday, September 11th from 5:00 6:00 p.m. This study will be taught by Rev. Rita Chiasson and Eva Underwood. Ladies Bible Study begins Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. at Melanie Rushing s home. For information call , or Join our music ministry vocal and instrumental arts programs this semester! See the bulletins and lobbies for info and registration forms for children's piano, voice, guitar and drum classes. Our children's choir The Music Makers, ages K-6th graders, will be presenting Twinkle, a Christmas musical with kick off rehearsals and auditions for characters and solos on Sun. Aug. 21 & 28th at 4:00pm. Regular rehearsals will be Sundays from 4:00-5:15pm beginning after Labor Day. Come join our Christmas Choir! Our Chancel Choir Christmas musical, Light Looked Down, to be presented with orchestra, will begin rehearsing on September 7th with a pot luck dinner and rehearsal at Melanie and Perry Rushing's home at 6:00pm. To Everyone at Live Oak United Methodist Church My family would like to thank each of you for your love, support, calls, food, and prayers for the loss of our father, Gerald Joseph Jolie Sr. You have been such a blessing to us. What a comfort to have the incredible church family that we have here at Live Oak United Methodist. Thank you for touching our hearts and for holding our hands through this difficult time in our lives. We thank the Good Lord for you all. 6 To Piecemakers: My Veteran husband of over 66 years died on Mardi Gras Day at the Reserve, SE LA Veterans Home March 8, I opened my paper and saw the tiny knots on the quilts, immediately knew and recognized the quilt that had been on Murphy Tiger Laurent s bed for almost 3 years. The only time we removed the quilt was for a monthly wash. Wonderful article, thanks to all involved. That quilt is now on my chaise lounge to cover my cold feet each night as I read or look at TV. The Piecemakers tag is still in the corner and legible, and the quilt looks like new. It has royal blue squares, one with stripes and one with small flowers, the backing is as white as the day you brought it to him, not a stitch out of place on the front or back. Our 6 year old great grandson, loved that blue quilt; if we had it off the bed to clean and replaced it with another quilt, he would call the other quilt a sissy cover. All of you may not hear a thank you every day, but please know that your efforts are much appreciated. The enclosed is a small donation toward any supplies or other needed support to help your group continue being Piecemakers. On Friday, February 18, 2011, People Section-D, my veteran gave an interview to an Advocate Reporter Just a couple of weeks before his death... Entitled Tending The Wounded on IWO JIMA with a great picture of him sitting in the library of the Vets War Home in Reserve; obtain copy, if possible, it s enjoyable reading by a devoted & loyal Veteran.
