OCTOBER 2012 HEALING SCRIPTURAL DISCEPTION Live Oak United Methodist Church Keys to the Kingdom Pastor s Desk It s October and we are looking forward to the Autumn weather and change of season. We are also seeing other changes around the world with the attacks upon American embassies, threats of war throughout the Middle East, and a presidential election in about 5 weeks. All of these events will affect us directly or indirectly. As we look at the various headlines, and the tumultuous events that seem to shape our world, something that often goes by unnoticed is the subtle attack against the church. The attacks against the church are coming more frequently and with greater vitriol. Jude, the half brother of Jesus, wrote a short epistle about this reality that has been a reality since the church began. Jude warned that often the attacks occur within the church by those who have abandoned the truth of God's word. In the month of October we will be looking at the spiritual/scriptural defection within the Church (of every label) and what the Bible (especially Jude's epistle) says about this event. We must be diligent in defending the faith and protecting the truth that has been given so that we may live in freedom and hope. We must be aware of those inside and outside the church that seek to usurp the truth of God's Word which is able to lead one to hope, truth and salvation. Join us in October as we share the series "Healing Scriptural Defection". God bless and hope to see you Sunday Mark C.
College Ministry The Dorm In the coming weeks, we will be relaunching our collegiate ministry here at Live Oak! Each month we will meet together to fellowship with each other (which of course includes lots of good food!) and have an in depth Bible study that allows students to ask tough questions and learn a Biblical response to issues that concern them most! If you are currently in college, or know a college student, please send your contact information (cell #, , etc.) to trent@loumc.org. I'm excited about what God is going to do through this ministry! I look forward to seeing you at our Young Adult Bible Study on Sunday 7:30 in the Conference Room! In Christ, Trent Barnett Ladies Night Out October 19, :00 9:00 p.m. in the Family Life Center Dinner, Worship and Speaker Carolyn Hatcher will share her experiences with mission work and prayer. Cost will be $10.00 and nursery will be available. Tickets will be sold every Sunday in church lobby between 8:45-11:30 or church office Monday thru Friday. Questions - call or text Stormee Drake
New No Parking Areas: The church has designated the driveway in front of the chapel (old sanctuary) and the driveway between the back of the new Sanctuary and Hwy 16 as No Parking Fire Zone Lane areas. Please observe these new no parking areas as well as new Handicap Parking areas that have been added in front of the Education Building, and on the driveway between the Sanctuary and the bank. New Cameras installed: Our church has recently completed the installation of several video cameras both inside and outside our church buildings. The cameras are to help better protect our church properties and to provide security and safety for you and your family. Should you or your family have any type of incident on our church property please report it to the church office. 6 LIVE OAK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH To Live Oak United Methodist Church To our church family and friends, I would like to thank you for your prayers and your service. Early in 2012 both Haskell (my son) and I were treated with back surgeries. Mine went well and I returned to work shortly afterwards with lots of restriction. For those of you who are not familiar with Haskell s case, he was injured 4 years ago in an accident involving a crane while serving in the US Air Force. Although he was honored a hero for saving his captain, he sustained critical injuries as a result. After his second back surgery in the past two years. I am proud to say he can stand and walk without the back brace. He is taking online college courses and has been chosen to be the head defensive coach at Christian Life Academy in Baton Rouge. He is working with another of my sons Joshua Dyer who is head offensive coach and who teaches History at the Academy. A very long road of recovery it has been for Haskell, he sends his gratitude to each of you for believing in him, our fellow soldiers, and his friends that they are still fighting for our freedom. Because of freedom, I was free to thank you. Let us be grateful for the little things we often don t take time to see. It s not hard to find gracious little things in other people. Visit one of our AWANA clubs on a typical Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. and you will quickly understand that AWANA s success is due in large part to the unbridled energy of the clubbers. Programs are crafted to offer verses for memorization that answer questions specific to each age group. They exhaust themselves on the dame circle only to come up for air and cry for more! Our AWANA clubs reach boys and girls from 3 years old through 6th grade.. The Adventure Continues, Sam LoBello Again we thank you for being there for us. Sincerely, God Loves You and I Love You Roseanne Erwin & Haskell
Mark Your Calendars! Wednesday, October 31st is our Annual Fall Fest. Kids preschool age to 5th grade are invited to join us for games, food, prizes, candy, spacewalks and fun! Fall Fest begins at 5 pm till 6:30 pm, then go outside for Trunk or Treat. Parents, be prepared with decorated cars (if you d like) and hand out candy to the kiddies from your trunk of your car. LOUMC Father-Daughter Dance Saturday, October 6, :00-9:00 PM Halloween Party for Youth (Middle School and High School) Will be after fall fest in Family Life Center (More Information to follow) Live Oak Methodist Family Life Center Dads, do not miss this opportunity to show your daughter what a real date is supposed to be like and to demonstrate how she should be treated on a date. Dress up and put on your dancing shoes. We will have popcorn and soft drinks on hand, but if mom wants to send a favorite dessert, that would be great. Bring your camera to capture the memories. See you there!!!!! Psalms 31 In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness.
Christmas at Snowflake County Take a rollicking ride to Snowflake County-a place where Christmas celebrations have become so extravagant they threaten to over shadow the simplicity of Christmas' true meaning. It seems the only one who understands the secret of Jesus' simple birth is little Suzy Hallmark-but no one is listening. It will take a series of crazy mishaps during the community's annual seasonal program before the noise stops and everyone realizes that Christmas isn't about how brightly lights and decorations shine-it's about Jesus, the light of the world. Your children, grades K-6th grade are invited to join our music and drama rehearsal for our Christmas musical each Sunday at 4:00pm. One Incredible Moment Chancel Choir Christmas Musical Join us Wednesday nights from 7:00-8:00 p.m. for rehearsals for One Incredible Moment to be presented with orchestra during the Christmas season. All three services congregations are invited to sing with us. In one incredible moment, God reunited Creator and created. With the birth of Christ, His perfect plan appeared in the flesh, becoming the cornerstone of man's redemption. THE JOURNEY OF LOSS & GRIEF (A place to share with others) Facilitated by :Jennifer Thomas, RSW, LPC, LMFT Kathy Blanchard, RSW, M.ED, CI Rev. Rita Chiasson Location: Live Oak United Methodist Church Library When: Every Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Generations Hospice and LOUMC is offering grief support to anyone who has experienced the death of loved one. Our support groups assist individuals in expressing, understanding, and coping with their emotions. For more information contact Jennifer Thomas at (225) , Kathy Blanchard or Rev.
