2 lorem ipsum dolor Fall Fest 2016 October 31st from 5:30 p.m. 8:00 p.m. It s that time of year! This year our Fall Festival and Trunk r Treat will be held on Monday, October 31st from 5:30-8:00. Trunk r Treat will begin at 7:30. There will be games, food, hayrides, inflatables, crafts and more. And new this year, a little friendly competition Trunk r Treat trunk decorating contest! Decorate your trunk using a non-spooky theme and bring candy or other goodies to pass out to the kids. We will line the parking lot with decorated cars, trucks and anything on wheels. At 7:30 the kids will pass from car to car to get their candy bags filled! We want this event to be special. It takes many volunteers to make this event happen! If you can help, we need game attendants, kitchen help, set up and tear down, parking attendants, candy and trinket donations and maybe a loaned generator or two. If you can help, please Trish at liveoakkids1@gmail.com. As always, thank you for your support! GOOGLE TRUNK OR TREAT DECORATING IDEAS FOR MORE LIKE THESE ABOVE Angel Alert Christmas Musical Angel means Messenger, and what a better way to spread the Christmas message than with angels? This charming Christmas musical casts kids and youth as the choirs of angels, announcing the birth of Christ. They are all waiting to be told when to go to earth and make the grand announcement. As they wait for the call, they review God s faithfulness through His promises and some of the prophecies about the Savior s birth. The musical is full of worship and plenty of celebration, since the angels understand the love God has for His people in sending His Son to earth. 3 1 2 3 lorem ipsum dolor From The Pastor s Desk The Mission of Live Oak United Methodist Church To preach and teach the Word of God and to proclaim the plan of salvation found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ given to all humanity by the Grace of God. The mont h of October is the beginning of the fourth quarter of the year. It will be interesting to see how the last quarter of 2016 will conclude. Most of 2016 has been full of challenges, choices, and changes. The challenges that we have experienced, the choices that had to be made due to those challenges and the changes that occurred as a result have been abundant in The field of psychology tells us that with change comes depression. Most of us do not like change and therefore we do all that we can to prevent change from occurring. However most of us have realized that tryi ng to stop change is like trying to stop an avalanche (you are not going to stop it). This principle could account for t he depth of depression in the lives of so many today. We live in a world that is rapidly changing. We have discovered that there are few things that are constant and consistent. So how does a person manage their spiritual, emotional and ment al healt h in a world constant ly changing? How does a person find the joy and happiness that most desire and seek? How does a person feel happy and healthy? Is pursuing happiness a nice sentiment but a cruel venture? Are there ways a person can truly have a joy and happin ess t hat is not fleeting, but can have some consisten cy? Join us in October for the series, "The Pursuit of Happiness" as we seek to enter into the fourth quarter of an unusual year and as we learn together t he principles from God's Word, on how t o embrace the hope and happiness God desires for his children. Hope to see you Sunday. Mark C. Thursday Evenings At 6:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center Ages: High School and up 3
4 lorem ipsum dolor STUDENT MINISTRY LAUNCH October 5 th, 2016, our student ministry will be launching into a new season of ministry. For the first time, we will have two unique but cohesive student ministries. Jump will be the new ministry for student s grades 6-8. Jump will be organized with a shorter teaching time for their shorter attention span, and include organized game time, as well as, small groups. Focal Point will be the new ministry for student s grades Focal Point will be organized with a slightly longer message than middle school, and a slightly longer time in musical worship. Each group will spend the majority of our time Ladies Night Out October 21 st At 6:30 p.m. In the Family Life Center Cost $15.00 (includes dinner) Tickets Sold at Welcome Center together in Small Groups. We believe that is where the majority of life change happens, when our leaders are able to engage with your students on a more personal basis. Our goal in launching these two unique ministries is to be able to focus more on the individual age group s needs and better show them the truths that they need to hear at their age. Doors open at 5:50 pm to accommodate students with the current school schedule, and we will end at 8:00p. We will be selling pizza and drinks for $1 to students who don t have time to go and get dinner before youth. We hope your students will come be a part of what Women s Ministry Providing opportunities for women to get connected, study God s Word, and encourage each other in the walk with Christ. God is doing here at Live Oak. If you have any questions, please contact the church office, or David Orges (david@loumc.org) or Kyle Salpietra (kyle@loumc.org). 5 4 lorem ipsum dolor Nuggets From the Bible Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer Grace. One of the most common misconceptions among believers today is that eternal life and forgiveness of sins is achieved by performing good works. This view is unbiblical and very confusing. In today s culture we grow up in a merit oriented society. From childhood we learn that rewards are earned. If you eat your vegetables you will get dessert. As students we learn that making good grades results in scholarships. High averages in college results in better jobs. Better jobs give higher salaries and promotions. Practically every phase of our lives is determined by merit. But when it comes to the gift of grace, God works on a completely different principle. We don t get God s grace by working for it because it is a free gift. (Eph. 2:8-9); it is unmerited favor, and it is free, received only by believing and trusting in the cross work of Christ (John 3:16). It is something God gives generously to those who don t deserve it. We can depend on God. What He promises, He will do. If He says He will save us by His grace, He will. We will not come into judgment (John 5:24). There is a beautiful hymn written by Julia Johnston in 1911 that expresses the concept of grace so well: Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt! Yonder on Calvary s mount outpoured, there where the blood of the lamb was spilt. Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace, freely bestowed on all who believe. You that are longing to see his face, will you this moment his grace receive. ARA 5
