2 MAY 27, 2018 I SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY We acknowledge the Trinity, holy and perfect, to consist of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. In this Trinity there is no intrusion of any alien element or of anything from outside, nor is the Trinity a blend of creative and created being. It is a wholly creative and energizing reality, self-consistent and undivided in its active power, for the Father makes all things through the Word and in the Holy Spirit, and in this way the unity of the holy Trinity is preserved. Accordingly, in the Church, one God is preached, one God who is above all things and through all things and in all things. God is above all things as Father, for he is principle and source; he is through all things through the Word; and he is in all things in the Holy Spirit. 9:00 The Children s Liturgy of the Word 9:00 & 11:00 Babysitting is available in the Cathedral Center Grace Suite for children ages 6 months 3 years. For grace and the gift of the Trinity are given by the Father through the Son in the Holy Spirit. Just as grace is given from the Father through the Son, so there could be no communication of the gift to us except in the Holy Spirit. But when we share in the Spirit, we possess the love of the Father, the grace of the Son and the fellowship of the Spirit himself. VOLUME 72 NUMBER 21 2
3 We, the Congregation of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Lafayette, acknowledge Jesus as Lord and find in His person and mission our truest identity. Obedient to the promptings of the Spirit, we acknowledge His life and ministry; His dying and rising as profound expressions of the Father s constant love for all people. We faithfully join Him as ministers in His kingdom. Our mission involves the total restoration of humanity and the salvation of the whole person. Our response to this mission finds expression in programs that promote healing and unity in every aspect of the human person. Like Jesus, we seek to express solidarity with the poor and the oppressed, striving all the while to remove from ourselves and Church structures whatever promotes inequality, injustice and oppression. 4 Witnessing Christ in Downtown Lafayette Father Chester Arceneaux, Rector of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, is pleased to announce that Mr. Chad Beraud has been hired as the new Director of Youth Ministry for Cathedral Parish effective June 1, Mr. Chad Beraud is a recent graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where his fiancé, Ms. Abigail Ramirez, and he were heavily involved in the Ragin Cajun Catholics of Our Lady of Wisdom and The Fellowship of Catholic University Students. Both have worked with the youth ministry programs at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lafayette and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice. Commenting on Mr. Beraud s new position, Father Chester said, Last Fall we began a new process of evaluating, planning, and discerning the trajectory of ministry of our parish with an important Parish Summit organized by parishioners. One of the many fruits of that event was new vision for parish youth ministry that involved a real investment for the good of our young people. This discernment process has led to a new direction in parish youth ministry in which we have prayerfully discerned that Chad is the right leader for where God is taking us. Our children are not only our most precious gift from God, they are also a solemn responsibility as a Church. Our Lord desires that every young person knows Him, loves Him, and finds their purpose in life within a profound relationship with Him and the members of His Body, the Church. It is my duty as the Spiritual Father of the many souls entrusted to me to ensure that we do all we can as a Church to help young people encounter Christ and grow in love of Him within the life of a vibrant Church parish. I am happy to trust Chad with this important work as he implements our growing and exciting vision of youth ministry here at Cathedral. Mr. Beraud will also have a key role in the life of Cathedral-Carmel School. Brittany Primeaux is the Director of Religious Education for Cathedral Parish and liaison to Cathedral-Carmel School. She comments, We are incredibly thrilled to welcome Chad to our team of ministry at the Cathedral. His role within Confirmation is vital to our growing parish! We are also eager to have him involved within the life of Cathedral-Carmel school and forming relationships with the students and their families. The timing couldn t be more perfect! Upon his arrival on June 1, Mr. Beraud will join the team at Cathedral and plan a wonderful first fiscal year of the new vision of youth ministry. Please continue to follow this ministry and tell the young people in your life about this exciting news. saintjohncathedral.org

Centennial News - Sunday, May 27, 2018 St. Martin de Tours Dedicated - On June 2, 1844, the current structure of St. Martin de Tours church was dedicated by Archbishop Blanc. Fundraising to build a new church began as early as 1820 and construction began in The parish of St. Marin de Tours is the Mother Church of the Acadians, as it was the first parish established in Southwest Louisiana after the arrival of the Acadians in While the historic church has undergone many renovations through the years, it continues to stand as a testimony to the faith of the Acadian settlers and of their descendants today. Centennial Items a limited amount of Centennial Memorabilia has been designed and created for this Centennial Year and can be purchased at Crossroads Bookstore and Acadian Religious Store (both in Lafayette), Diocese of Lafayette Central Office (1408 Carmel Ave), St. Martin de Tours Church(St. Martinville) and Queen of Angels Church (Opelousas). Items can also be viewed on the Diocesan Centennial Webpage. Please Pray for our Diocese throughout this Centennial Year in your personal private prayers using the Centennial Prayer which can be found on the Diocesan Centennial Webpage in various languages. Our Diocese has endured much because of the power of prayer and it is that prayer from all that will continue to sustain and strengthen us into the acceptance and completion of God s Will for us. The Ladies Altar Society of St. John the Evangelist Church in Henry, LA is inviting all Altar Society members throughout the Diocese of Lafayette to pray with them, privately at home, a novena to St. Anne. The novena will begin on Wednesday, July 18 and end on Thursday, July 26, which is the feast day of St. Anne and St. Joachim. On the final day, July 26, members are invited to attend mass at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Lafayette at 12:05 in honor of the Centennial year of our diocese. This year s petition entitled Don t Quench the Spirit, may be ordered from the shrine by mail at the address listed: Secretariat of the Shrine 9797 Sainte Anne Boulevard Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré QC G0A3C0 More details will follow next month, but you are encouraged to order novena booklets now..
