2 NOVEMBER 4, 2018 I THE THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME How beautiful the words of Jesus in today s Gospel according to Mark: There is no other commandment greater than to love God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength ; and to love your neighbor as yourself. In our First Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy God gives this commandment to His People and promises blessings of a long life and prosperity for those who would keep it. Often times, we wonder where God is with this promise. We struggle to put God first and love others amidst the trails and challenges of this life and are often met with the mystery of the Cross. Isn t everything supposed to go well for us if we love God and neighbor? My brothers and sisters, why do we love? When we love and love and love to the point of being empty, to the point of hurting, to the point of being broken for others, then we are really loving God with our whole heart, soul, and strength. The prosperity promised by God will be ours for eternity, but in this life He will stretch us to pour every drop of love that we are able to give for the glory of God and the good of our neighbor. You see, this simple commandment is more challenging then it seems, for it requires us to love completely for the other, for the good of God and neighbor. Let us love this way and settle for nothing less. 9:00 & 11:00 Babysitting is available in the Cathedral Center Grace Suite for children ages 6 months 3 years. VOLUME 72 NUMBER 44 2

5 The Theology of the Body is the premier teaching of St. John Paul. Drawing from the Centerpiece of Christianity, The Incarnation, St. John Paul examines the fact that we are created in the Image and Likeness of God. What does this mean and how does it apply to everyday life? We are created for LOVE. The Gift of Self modeled for us by Christ is our blueprint for happiness. Beginning with the fundamental relationship of man and woman, he demonstrates that it is a real sign of Christ, the Bridegroom, and His love for His Bride, the Church. The Gift of Himself to us in the Eucharist points to the reality of our destiny.to be enfolded in the eternal exchange of love of the Blessed Trinity for all eternity.
