2 MORNING WORSHIP 9:00/11:00 AM Prelude Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven Praise, my soul, the King of heaven; to His feet thy tribute bring. Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, evermore His praises sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise the everlasting King. Fatherlike He tends and spares us; well our feeble frame He knows. In His hands He gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Alleluia! Alleluia! Widely yet His mercy flows. Angels, help us to adore Him; ye behold Him face to face; Sun and moon, bow down before Him, dwellers all in time and space. Alleluia! Alleluia! Praise with us the God of grace. I Want Jesus to Walk with Me I want Jesus to walk with me; all along my pilgrim journey, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. Mark Andrews arr. Luke Carlson In my trials, Lord, walk with me; please walk with me, when my heart is almost breaking, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. When I m in trouble, Lord, walk with me; When my head is bowed in sorrow, Lord, I want Jesus to walk with me. Tenth Men s Choir Nathaniel Fletcher, tenor Norman Carter, piano Call to Worship * Doxology (Trinity Hymnal 731) Old Hundredth Praise God from Whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav nly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen. * Confession O Lord, You are our Father. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your hands. Forgive us Lord for how we have corrupted Your good creation. Gracious Lord, You alone are righteous and holy, and in Your presence no one can stand. Your gracious mercy is our only hope and we ask for Your forgiveness. We pray for Your cleansing touch to wash away our corruption, and to clothe us in the righteousness that may only be found by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, in Whose holy name we pray. Amen. * The Gospel s Assurance of Pardon * Invocation * Hymn 66: God Is Known Among His People Lauda Anima Responsive Reading Psalm 8:1 9 (page 450) * Gloria Patri (Trinity Hymnal 734) Gloria Patri (Meineke) Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. 3 * Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayer of Thanksgiving and Intercession Announcements Living Church Medical Campus Outreach * Hymn 186: One There Is, Above All Others Godesberg (In the 11:00 service, Praisemakers, ages 4 5, may go to B2; Praisemakers Plus, grades 1 2, may go to B1.) * Offering Prayer Offertory: Throned Upon the Awful Tree Throned upon the awful tree, King of grief, I watch with Thee. Darkness veils Thine anguished face: none its lines of woe can trace: None can tell what pangs unknown hold Thee silent and alone. Silent through those three dread hours, wrestling with the evil pow rs, Left alone with human sin, gloom around Thee and within, Till th appointed time is nigh, till the Lamb of God may die. Hark, that cry that peals aloud upward through the whelming cloud! Thou, the Father s only Son, Thou, His own anointed One, Thou dost ask Him can it be? Why hast Thou forsaken me? Lord, should fear and anguish roll darkly o er my sinful soul, Thou, Who once wast Thus bereft that thine own might never be left, Teach me by that bitter cry in the gloom to know Thee nigh. 4 INTERCESSORY PRAYER Intercessors are available for prayer each Sunday at 12:30 PM to listen and provide prayers of spiritual comfort, solace, and support. All are welcome. Go down the stairs from the Narthex or the door to the left of the pulpit or take the elevator to the B level and meet near Catacombs rooms C5 and C6. Look for team members wearing red tags. THE SHORTER CATECHISM, circa 1647 One of the documents that explains what our church and denomination believe is known as the Shorter Catechism. We are including in the bulletin a series of questions and answers dealing with some of the essential doctrines of our faith. Question 96: What is the Lord s supper? Answer: The Lord s supper is a sacrament, wherein, by giving and receiving bread and wine according to Christ s appointment, his death is showed forth; and the worthy receivers are, not after a corporal and carnal manner, but by faith, made partakers of his body and blood, with all his benefits, to their spiritual nourishment and growth in grace. PROJECT OF THE MONTH: JOHN CALVIN SCHOOL John Calvin School at the Hogar La Providencia in Santa Marta, Colombia began in 2006 under the leadership of national partner Pastor Jaime Leal. It launched with 32 primarily Chimila Indian students, residents of the children s home. An educational license was granted in 2009, when other neighborhood students enrolled. In 2015, a license for education at both primary and secondary education was granted. There is no nearby public school for the poor neighborhood around the John Calvin School. Most of the families cannot afford to pay the modest school fees. Scholarship funds are greatly needed to enable the school to succeed. Students are taught the Bible and Christian ethics by a chaplain/pastor. The 2016 school year ended with 140 students completing the term, creating an impact on many dysfunctional families Cash or checks made payable to Tenth Presbyterian Church with February Project of the Month on the memo line, may be placed in offering plates or one of the oak boxes at the Sanctuary entrances.
5 EVENING WORSHIP 6 : 1 5 P M Soli Deo Gloria Prelude Hymn Sing hymns will be selected by the congregation. When Jesus Wept William Billings When Jesus wept the falling tear, in mercy flowed beyond all bounds. When Jesus groaned a trembling fear, seized all the guilty world around. Golden Harps Are Sounding Frances R. Havergal Golden harps are sounding, angel voices ring, pearly gates are opened, opened for the King; Christ, the King of glory, Jesus King of Love, is gone up in triumph to His throne above. All His work is ended, joyfully we sing; Jesus hath ascended; glory to our King! He Who came to save us, He Who bled and died, now is crowned with glory at his Father s side. Nevermore to suffer, nevermore to die, Jesus, King of glory, is gone up on high. Praying for His children in that blessed place, calling them to glory, sending them His grace; His bright home preparing, faithful ones, for you; Jesus ever liveth, ever loveth too. Cantate Choir Jubilate Choir Helen Sneller, piano Joseph Waggoner, director Soli Deo Gloria is a motto that has been used since the time of the Protestant Reformation. It is the culminating phrase of five Solas and means Glory to God Alone. Soli Deo Gloria affords musicians (singers and instrumentalists alike) the opportunity to give back to God from the gifts He has given them. At the same time, the music is intended to encourage the congregation and to be a public testimony of our desire at Tenth Church to honor Him with our musical offerings. 6:30 PM Welcome Call to Worship Invocation * Hymn 64: God, the Lord, a King Remaineth Regent Square * Prayer of Confession Almighty and Merciful Father, You have called us to be Your people and have made us one body. Yet we have not lived as though we are one. We have not loved one another as we ought. We have not put others interests above our own. Selfishness and conceit have gripped us. We have failed to look out for, associate with, and care for each other, even those who are different from ourselves. We have not treated one another as those in Whom Christ dwells. Forgive us for our offences against You, and subdue everything in us that is contrary to Your purposes. By the power of Your Spirit, make us a community that shows forth Your acceptance, kindness, and love. Through Christ our Lord, Amen. * The Gospel s Assurance of Pardon 1 Peter 2:9 10 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. * Congregation standing
